December 25, 2019Bay Ridge Rocks Spreads the Holiday Spirit
Bay Ridge Rocks shined like Rudolph, danced like Frosty and gave like Santa! The true meaning of the holiday shines through their rock project!
Bay Ridge Rocks is an organization in our community that painted 650 rocks to be delivered with meals to home-bound seniors, as well as given out at the senior center and an assisted living facility in Bay Ridge! See more of their rocks here.

Each painted rock was bagged and this message was put in the bag:

This thoughtful project of kindness also taught the children that participated, that their art matters and they can make a difference in someone else’s life!

The planning and work that went into organizing this had to be extensive! Rana Abu-Sbaih, the head of Bay Ridge Rocks worked with other groups too, so they could meet their goal! Cocoa Grinder Coffee Shop hosted Bay Ridge Rocks meetups at their shop…most businesses wouldn’t welcome a group of kids and paint in their business regularly!
Bay Ridge Rocks was formed almost two years ago (January 6th is their founding anniversary). Parents began meeting and painting rocks with their children for a few hours in the evening or on the weekend. At the time, Trump just started his presidency and every television station was broadcasting him. This group quieted things down for their families and had fun! Their group then hid the rocks around the neighborhood for other people to find!
After the rocks were painted, they were left around the neighborhood for other people to find and enjoy. The group has a Facebook page where people post their findings. I follow the page because it’s always nice to see a smiling face and beautifully painted rocks. Join their FB Page if you want to see happy people in Bay Ridge.
Thank you to Bay Ridge Rocks for sharing their gifts, showing the the true meaning of holiday spirit and building our community!
Merry Christmas Bay Ridge!

December 23, 2019Justin Brannan Rallies for Two-Year-Old Drone Bill
![]()
Eric Adams shared this picture here
It’s the end of the year and Councilman Justin Brannan is rallying for a bill he introduced two years ago! See here. It’s strange that Brannan would have introduced that bill in 2018, just as he just started as our Councilman. There was no mention of drones during his candidacy.
Councilman Brannan wants to use drones to examine buildings. While out West, this would works well because there is more room. Brannan wrote an opt-ed in October for the Daily News – see here. While he discussed the benefits of drones, Brannan failed to inform readers about the problems with drones.
“Currently there is no way for officials to identify the owner of a given drone or to track the location of drones that have been registered by a particular person. Even airports and power plants currently lack the legal authority to track drones.” (Source)
NYC would not benefit from legalizing drones. The ramifications of this bill on privacy should be a concern to any New Yorker. Safety for planes and helicopters could be compromised. Finally, the amount of air traffic, accidents and chaos that could be created by drones, severely outweighs its use in NYC.
You know I love technology and I have a drone. But I am glad drones are not legal, except in designated areas. This is NYC and there are just so many issues with using drones here. See here
When Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights have so many needs, why would Brannan be so interested in this drone bill? He introduced it within the first 30 days of being in office? Who is the bill for? Jeff Coltin wrote a thorough article on this topic in November. See here
This week. Justin Brannan rallied for the two-year-old bill with Eric Adams. Eric Adams loves taking pictures, but he doesn’t do the work needed to push reform in Brooklyn.
Have you seen Eric Adams do anything for Dyker Heights besides take a picture?
Eric Adams stood in photos for illegal conversions in the beginning of the fight, but then he stopped. Here he is in 2015, here’s Eric in 2016 Nothing became of the photos, nothing was done about illegal conversions. Make sure not to vote for him for mayor. But in 2017, Eric Adams sent his attorney, Andrew Gounardes for the picture. In 2019, Eric Adams isn’t even at the table discussing the topic anymore.
We are starting 2020…..and Dyker Heights has no relief on this topic…..at all. Don’t we wish Brooklyn politicians would rally for Brooklyn FOR ONCE?

December 22, 2019Baci Restaurant Be a Better Neighbor!
Baci, I loved you. C’mon Salvatore, I want to love you again….but you are making it hard.
Baci is a fantastic restaurant at 8424 – 3rd Avenue.
Salvatore isn’t taking care of his neighbors. We don’t like that. We need our Bay Ridge businesses to take care of their neighbors.
When people go home, they want peace!
There were 17 complaints of amplification of music at Baci from August to October 2019. Baci had two speakers outside of their restaurant! Of the 17 complaints, the 68th Precinct said that nine complaints were unfounded….REALLY 68th Precinct?!
Who at the 68th thinks residents have nothing better to do than call them about the noise at a restaurant? The only way the NYPD didn’t hear the noise was if they didn’t show up or they waited until after the place closed to show up. When the officers from the 68th Precinct saw the speakers on the outside of the restaurant, why didn’t the officers ask the owner to remove them?
Why aren’t the NCO’s in Bay Ridge working like they do for other areas?
Josephine from Community Board 10 should not receive more than 5 calls about a business. By the time a business gets five complaints, the 68th Precinct should have stepped in and ticketed the owner. And ticketed him again on the sixth, seventh, eighth time, etc – until the message is clear. Some people need to be hit in the wallet to understand that the law applies to them as well.
It’s not right that Josephine and Community 10 fight for Bay Ridge and law enforcement doesn’t back them up. We have seen the 68th Precinct not follow through with community complaints before. See here
When Baci received the 3rd or 4th call about their music, they should have monitored the noise themselves. This is a sign of a bad neighbor. It’s okay if a placed messes up in the first month or two, as they are getting started and getting the staff trained, but this is months of being annoying! The District Manager should not need to write a business to tell the owner to comply with the law.
At the December Community Board 10 meeting, the notes said Salvatore told CB 10 that he removed the speakers outside. He did not – he disconnected the speakers, but they were still there. SMH…Don’t play like that.
Community Board 10 returned to Baci and requested that the wires to the speakers be removed. Finally, a CB 10 representative returned to check that the wires were removed. Thank you CB 10 for staying on top of this and standing up for your neighbors. Sending love to my neighbors in CB 10:
Baci….Do Better – Be a Better Neighbor – Keep your speakers indoors. Get sound proofing material and keep your neighbors happy…..because we want to love you again.
