Coszcal de Allende Recognized in Top Dishes List
![]()
Congratulations to Coszcal de Allende at 6824 3rd Avenue. Their dish, Sopa Panza was named one of the fifteen best dishes in NYC by Robert Sietsema. See here
I have been to Coszcal de Allende many times, but I have never ordered the sopa panza because it has tripe in it. The other things on their menu are delicious and there is always good service there too. This restaurant used to be called Pancho’s. It has been Coszcal de Allende for over five years, but everyone I know still calls it Panchos!

December 27, 2019Justin Brannan and Joe Borelli – NYC’s Grinches
On December 25th, the NY Post published an article about property taxes. The article implied that Joe Borelli and Justin Brannan are doing something about property taxes – they aren’t.
Julia Marsh, the journalist for The Post failed to mention that this bill is almost two years old (from January 2018). This bill will not help any existing home owners, who are being overcharged on property taxes.
All this bill will do is lower property taxes for new home purchases (possibly refinances too). See here
Who is Councilman Justin Brannan pushing this bill for?
Both men should know throwing out a new loophole for someone is just wasting everyone in their community’s time. When Mayor de Blasio and Corey Johnson failed to follow through with the property tax commission set up in May 2018, Justin Brannan and Joe Borelli should have taken the next step to help the constituents of their area.
Only grinches would exhibit such callousness and have an article like that printed on Christmas Day. The article gave false hope to the people of NYC and provided a new loophole to someone else. We are surprised to see Joe Borelli participate in press-release politics when he has done nothing to move or promote this bill in two years.
Today, Senator Gounardes jumped on the bandwagon and tweeted (here). Gounardes that to say that he did something with his late bill from last year that went nowhere. Gounardes did have a property tax bill signed by the governor in the Fall, when I asked him who it was for, he would not respond. (See bill here) We know it isn’t for us because we got hit with another bill in December (even though we were done paying the property tax for the year).
In October 2019, Gounardes and Senator Benjamin hosted a meeting and told people that they were waiting for Mayor de Blasio before they could do anything. You can hear this at 1 hour and 15 minutes:
Many have said that NYC will not be doing anything about property taxes in 2020 or 2021 including: Justin Brannan’s meak letter to Mayor de Blasio in September went unanswered. Andrew Gounardes hasn’t been committed enough to doing anything, even though he told me last year that he had an idea. So nothing is getting done with these leaders.
I am not running for any political office now or in the future (every day, I would have to tell people to do their job). I am also not supporting any other candidates for these positions.
For 2020, hopefully Bay Ridge politicians will re-commit themselves to the job people have entrusted them to do instead of: clapping for other politicians bills, taking pictures and issuing press releases about bills that haven’t been voted on. If they have done the work and passed a bill, then of course they should share it. But if it’s just an idea that hasn’t been acted on, they should tell their office staff – not a journalist.
