1) Volunteer at St. Pat’s Food Pantry on Tuesdays

5) Volunteer at Bay Ridge Center Food Pantry 411 Ovington Avenue – the last Wednesday of the month from 10 to 3 pm – the Center needs volunteers who can translate Cantonese to help people visiting the food pantry.

7) Guild for Exceptional Children Volunteer at GEC in Bay Ridge. Contact the Development Office   718-833-6633 x228



8) Holy Cross Church on 84th and Bay Ridge Pkwy cooks meals for those who are homebound or have financial difficulties. Meals are cooked on one Saturday each month starting at 11:00 am. Volunteers are needed to shop for food, prep, cook and deliver the food. More info here. Once a month (on a Friday evening), volunteers feed the homeless on the streets of NYC. 718-836-3510




9) The Friendly Visiting Program at the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island is in need of volunteers to visit homebound seniors in the Bay Ridge/Bensonhurst area. Just 1 hour a week is all it takes. If you can commit to visiting someone each week, this opportunity would be great for you. 30) Sean Casey Animal RescuesIf you want to volunteer at the pet shelter and learn more about the rescue as well, you need to attend a training session which is every 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 7 – 8 PM at the Windsor Terrace location: 153 East 3rd Street, Brooklyn NY 11218. You must be at least 13 years old to volunteer without a parent or a guardian.   Children 4-12 years old can volunteer when accompanied by a parent/guardian (restrictions apply).  Application and info here.

  • Bay Ridge Center 411 Ovington Avenue – Many seniors go their on the last Wednesday of the month from 10 to 3 pm – that’s when it is open


  • St Andrews Pantry – 6713 Ridge Boulevard. You can also drop off food at the rectory next door to the church



  • St. Patrick’s Pantry – Bring food to the main office of the Rectory – 4th Avenue and 96th Street


  • St. Anselm’s Pantry 351 – 83rd Street. This pantry is open on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month only from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The ad below appeared in mid-July 2019, so they need help.

      • Grandma’s Love 347-432-2408 – This organization sends children home with a bag of food weekends and of course near Thanksgiving as well. Theresa, the head of the organization wanted to make sure that not do families eat, but that children make memories and they can talk with their classmates about their Thanksgiving dinner. This organization also collects children’s books throughout the year.



Thanksgiving Volunteering:


1) Catholic Charities in Brooklyn needs help on November 16th – they are giving out turkeys and the fixings!




2) Bay Ridge Cares posts their volunteer needs throughout the year on their Facebook page. In November, they post their Thanksgiving volunteer opportunities. Bay Ridge Cares serves and deliver meals to the less fortunate, the disabled, shut ins, and seniors. There are opportunities to volunteer for the whole family.






3) God’s Love We Deliver– the non-profit organization founded in 1985 with the goal of bringing tasty, nutritious meals to the homes of cancer patients, AIDS sufferers and others coping with life-threatening illnesses, marked a major milestone this year. They pack meals for people in Bay Ridge see here


Christmas Time Volunteer Opportunities


1) The Salvation Army in Bay Ridge needs Bell Ringers for the 2018 Christmas Season – someone could have a very good time with this.



**You can sign up to stand at one of the Salvation Army Kettles and ring the bell with your service club: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church groups, employees, high school students needing community service. Just reach out to 718-238-2991 and let them know when you are avilable.
