Bensonhurst Bedspread at JCPenny’s

A friend sent me a link to JCPenny’s Bensonhurst Bedspread.  See here

How ironic that they named it after a Brooklyn neighborhood!

When I looked at the reviews, I could tell JCPenny has been selling it for a few years and it got good reviews too.

It comes in two colors.

BBQ Chicken in Bay Ridge 9/5 – 9/6

There is some serious grilling being done outside of Falahi Farms at 8501 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.

1/4 chicken and pita bread = $5.00

1/2 chicken and pita bread = $8.00

Whole chicken and pita bread = $15.00

Abdul turned Bagel Story into a Grocery store and they have BBQ Chicken today and tomorrow!

I like how Abdul has changed his business during the pandemic and brought Bay Ridge what it needed.  A grocery store on that corner is useful for the people living there!

Bay Ridge Grad Featured on the News

Xaverian High School grad, Nathan Berg, was featured on Current News for his cooking. He started his undergrad degree at Cornell University.

Nathan said he was inspired by his mother’s and grandmother’s Italian cooking.

In my mind, so much of the success and opportunity @mangia_my_dudes has achieved has only been made possible through my school @xaverianhs Whether it be getting a behind-the-scenes look at the Urbani Truffles’ headquarters in Manhattan, being featured in my own @wxbntv segment on a weekly basis, or being offered to cook for faculty and administrators on special occasions. I consider myself to be so fortunate to have ended up in a school that feels like family — full of support, praise, and incredible opportunity. Today, albeit much different than planned, was my last day of high school classes. While it is a truly bittersweet ending, I wanted to dedicate this 200th post to my second home for the past four years. Thank you for everything, and especially for providing the very inspiration for my senior quote: “Allow your passion to become your purpose, and it will one day become your profession.” Here’s to the next 200 ????, and as always — Mangia ????

Late to the Party Politicians Play Politics

On August 20th, Nicole Malliotakis and restaurant owners hit hard against Mayor de Blasio because indoor dining is not allowed in NYC. (See here)  Malliotakis has been speaking out against this for over a month. (See here, here and here) Restaurants in Bay Ridge and Staten Island will close if they aren’t allowed to have inside dining at the end of September/October.

If you have read this blog for awhile, you know I am  not a fan of Malliotakis, but she has been doing the right thing for business owners in Bay Ridge.

After Malliotakis’ press release on August 20th, two politicians in Bay Ridge brought a stand to a corner and spoke out against it. But that wasn’t on the news….so they did it again today and called the news this time.

Steve has owned Chadwick’s for 32 years.

Yesterday,  Mayor de Blasio said Indoor Dining will happen at the end of September. (See September 2nd article)

It was on the news:

The restaurant owners are authentic in their plea.  When the restaurants owners spoke out with Malliotakis a few weeks ago,  they feared being fined for speaking out.

Senator Gounardes has not helped Bay Ridge businesses. All Summer, NYC allowed certain streets to be closed so that restaurant business owners could use the whole street for tables. See streets which had this   Why weren’t Bay Ridge businesses given the same opportunity to make money like businesses in other communities.

This Summer,  even Mayor de Blasio called out Brannan for being a politician.  See here

Andrew Gounardes and Brannan have not put a podium up for home owners who are being overcharged on taxes. And neither have pulled out the podium out for illegal apartments in Dyker Heights.  The podium came out today AFTER yesterday’s announcement that indoor dining would be coming soon.

Last year, Bishop Kearney High School closed.

Yesterday, they removed the green “K” Kearney sign. Today, they removed the cross from the building.

The Blessed Mother was still up on 60th Street corner. Monsignor Cassato said that it will be moved over to St Athanasius School.

If you went there you know, it was a special place with a lot of amazing people AND:

Bishop Kearney High School was open from 1961 – 2019.  The building is on the corner of Bay Parkway and 60th Street.

Will You Speak Up for Sunset Park? For Brooklyn?

Sunset Park finally got their Councilman (Carlos Menchaca) to hear them.

Industry City wants to rezone.  Industry City claims they will offer “quality jobs”, but plans were made years ago for Sunset Park! The waterfront space to be repurposed as a regional production hub for renewable energy.  (See here) Sunset Park residents want the city to stay  with this plan!  Why?   Because the people in Sunset Park would be able to apply for these jobs and get paid decent wages.  The people in Sunset Park are fighting to get the right type of jobs in this area.

While out-of-district councilmen fight for the developers, local Councilman Carlos Menchaca has questioned who will benefit from low paying jobs through rezoning?  Politicians outside of our borough have spoken out claiming “jobs is the way to go.”  But they aren’t saying what type of jobs and who will receive them.

The middle class is fighting to improve their area and get quality jobs here.

The meeting will be held online on Tuesday, September 15th. Register here to speak

Even if you think you don’t have something important to say, please sign up and speak out. Don’t worry about fancy words – just go Brooklyn on them and tell them to stop siding with developers!

Councilman Carlos Menchaca heard the people this time and even he said NO because he knows this will not help the people. Menchaca has allowed hotels in the area (the people fought that and lost).

Menchaca noted that affordable housing was not part of the plan. He knows people are being priced out of the area already.

If you are someone who is free on September 15th and you can tell them not to let the developers control this area, please speak up for Brooklyn.  I know some of you can “Go All Brooklyn on them,”  so please do.  Register here.

City Council thinks no one cares about Sunset Park – that’s why the timing of this meeting is at 10:00 am on a Tuesday. They are hoping this is a done deal. MAKE SOME NOISE BROOKLYN!
