A New Bar is Opening Where JJ Bubbles Was
JJ Bubbles closed in April 2020 after Joe Joyce’s death. (See here) This June (or July), a new bar will be opening here.
Vito, the owner of a new bar being renovated at 7912 – 3rd Avenue was at the Community Board 10 Meeting because he was applying for a liquor license. (Video here)
Joe Joyce must be smiling from heaven. That block will be renamed Joe Joyce Way this year. (See here)
Vito is renovating the place now and plans to open this Summer.
Hours of operation will be 12:00 pm – 4:00 am – like JJ Bubbles used to have (they didn’t think that they would be open that late on weekdays).
They are serving bar food (photo is blurry because it is from the video.)
There is a backyard to this bar, but it is blocked in (no way to exit the yard).
74 people is the maximum for the bar (over 75 people the place would need a back exit)
There will be occasional parties at this new place.
Congratulations Vito! We can’t wait to hear what this new place will be named.

Pedestrian Hit on 86th Street & Ft. Hamilton
A pedestrian was hit on 86th Street around 7:30 pm tonight on 86th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway. (Source)
It was a hit-and run accident! People aren’t afraid to do this any more. There has been a rise in hit and run accidents in our area.
An ambulance brought the person to the hospital. Hopefully, the person is alright.

66 Club – New Karaoke Bar Off 8th Avenue
66 Club Inc is a new karaoke club at 815 – 66th Street (off 8th Avenue). The owner and attorney were at the Community Board 10 Meeting tonight because they were seeking a liquor license.
The new club has two front entrances, as seen in the photo above. There is no back exit. The attorney for 66 Club said that safety was important to this owner and a sprinkle system has been installed in this club.
There will be a security guard at this karaoke bar. Sixty-eight people are allowed to be at this place at a time.
There are rooms for people to sing karaoke. The rooms have doors with large glass windows. The doors do not lock. They are putting cameras in each room.
CB 10 noted that the hallway to the karaoke rooms was narrow. The attorney said the hallway wasn’t narrow.
Community Board 10 said that karaoke bars have not had a good history in our area.
This used to be a shop on 66th Street off 8th Avenue. Across the street is a park. (See street view)

Students at The Bay Ridge School of Music Will Perform at Carnegie Hall on February 25th
Congratulations to The Bay Ridge School of Music. Their students will perform at Carnegie Hall on Friday, February 25th at 7:00 pm.

Grand Larceny is up 450% in Bay Ridge
Look on the bright side: No one was murdered this week in Bay Ridge.
Business were robbed a lot last week (40 – compared to 14 last year) and those numbers are not part of the top crimes, so don’t be fooled by anyone saying crime is down.
I think a lot of people don’t care as long as they (or someone they know) weren’t robbed.
There a lot of people who do care because they don’t want more businesses to close or their friends and relatives moving away because they no longer feel safe.
Here’s the Compstats for last week:
Grand Larceny is up 450% in our community. That means there are a lot of creeps around robbing.
We need police patrolling – try it – it works!
UPDATE: A Bay Ridge know-it-all guy went to Compstats took the new stats for the week and posted them. He wrote, “I don’t know where she got these statistics from, but here’s what is on Compstat.” I let him know he had a different date and he went silent.

If You Could Send Snacks to the Troops Overseas Would You? If Yes, The Boy Scouts at St. Anselm Need Your Help
St. Anselm’s 4th graders in Cub Scout Pack 313 are working towards earning their Arrow of Light Award.
The service project they choose was to send care packages to Deployed Military Troops. (Super nice!)

Their goal is to send 20 boxes of goodies to men and women in the military. Bay Ridge, they need our help!
They put together a list of items on Amazon from $5.00 to $40.00. (See here)
The scouts put drinks, snacks, books, games and gift cards on the list for the soldiers.

They need the items by: MARCH 1, 2022.
When my friends were in the military overseas, we sent them a shoebox with treats. Getting gum, candy and messages from America made a them very happy!

Jessica Scarcella-Spanton is Running For Diane Savino’s Senate Seat – District 23 in Brooklyn
When Senator Diane Savino announced her decision not to run for the Brooklyn and Staten Island District 23 seat, her former staffer, Jessica Scarcella-Spanton threw her hat in.
Why does the District 23 Senate seat look like this?
The Democrats super gerrymandered the district to give Andrew Gounardes more Democrats so he could win.
This seat includes a part of Staten, plus the waterfront of Sunset Park, Park Slope and Downtown Brooklyn, as well as all of SeaGate in Coney Island.
This is the district they created for Gounardes:
Savino decided not to run for the seat because more of the district is in Brooklyn and a lot of the area she doesn’t know.
Could Scarcella-Spanton be successful here? She’s running opposite Bianca Rajpersaud, a lobbyist.
Charles Fall, an Assemblyman from Staten Island has his girlfriend, Bianca Rajpersaud, running for seat. (Source) That’s not good. Why would the people in Brooklyn want to be represented by a lobbyist?
We think there will be more candidates from the Brooklyn side – at least one anyway for this area. Throw your hat in and represent Brooklyn! We don’t need David Yassky’s flop flop here.
Good points:
Jessica Scarcella-Spanton is the mother of two small children.
Bad Points:
Not much is known about Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, other than she worked for Senator Savino.
Jessica Scarcella-Spanton is a Gounardes supporter. She liked a post to work for his team:
Her hot pink and navy campaign website has no information about her or the positions that she represents. (See here) To print signs and take pictures, rather tell people what you stand for is not a good sign.
From Scarcella-Spanton‘s social media, she is a huge Britney Spears fan and has tweeted her support to Free Britney. (See here, here, here, here and here)
She has no tweets speaking out against hate, government policies or anything – just retweets or compliments for politicians.
Except this……Scarcella-Spanton wants someone to make a law against playing videos loud on their phone. If you agree, she might be the right candidate for you. 8D

Councilwoman From the Bronx Donates Money to Restore Memorial for Brooklyn Teen
Several weeks ago, 15-year-old Antonina Zatulovska from Coney Island was hit by a bus and killed outside of Madison High School. (See here)
Today, Councilwoman Inna Vernikov shared that Antonia’s memorial was vandalized with a swastika & smashed candles.
Marjorie Velázquez, a NYC Council representative fron the Bronx donated money for new flowers for Antonina’s memorial.
