RIP George Politis, Bay Ridge’s Cat Protector

I was sad to hear the news that George Politis, co-founder of Itty Bitty Cat Rescue in Bay Ridge died this morning.

George’s memorial will be held on June 9th from 10 am – 1pm at Clavin Funeral Home.

George trapped cats for TNR in South Brooklyn for many years. TNR stands for trap, neuter and release. A group of good people in Bay Ridge try to keep the community cats population under control by neutering them.
George even took the cats with felv.
George took care of community cats that no one was taking care of, and he helped these cats find homes.
I imagine George was welcomed at Heaven’s gate by all the cats he was kind to and all the cats he rescued.

There are eight cats at the Itty Bitty Cat Rescue that need fosters or to be adopted. You can see them here.

RIP George, South Brooklyn’s Cat Protector.
A Go Fund Me was set up – see here.

May 30, 2022New Owners of the Outpatient Treatment Center on 77th Street in Bay Ridge

Donna Mae DePola, who owns The Resource Counseling Center of Bay Ridge at 408 – 77th Street was at the Community Board 10 virtual meeting this week. She talked about another company taking over the counseling business. This is an out patient treatment and counseling office, so this may be a concern to people living in that area.
Donna said that she was in business in Bay Ridge for eight years and the place hasn’t had any problems.
She said that during the pandemic, she worked virtually with patients, but they were not able to give people drug tests. A lot of people relapsed, since counseling works better in person.
De Paola looked for another management company and wanted to find someone who would continue to be discrete and not disrupt most neighbors. I think she appeared at the CB 10 meeting as a courtesy because she has the right to sell the business if she wants to.
De Paola found Seek Management and brought Charles, Marvin and Josh to talk with Community Board 10 because now Seek Management has taken over De Paola’s business. They said they were going to continue the business and maybe add more hours for patients.
Here’s the meeting:

May 28, 2022Dyker Heights Man Beat & Robbed of $6,000

Today the news is reporting that there was a robbery last Sunday, May 15th in Dyker Heights. One of the homes had a camera that recorded the brutal beating and robbery. (Video here and here)
Why hasn’t the NYPD or politicians mentioned this incident to our community?
A lot of politicians want to run and represent this area, but none want to speak about crime or give a heads up to the community and tell them what’s going on. Vote against anyone currently representing this area now.
Here’s the perp:

Channel 1 News said that at 1:00 am on Sunday, a man was sitting on his stoop on 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue in Dyker Heights talking on his cell phone.

A robber came up to him, punched him, pushed him to the ground and robbed him.
The robber stole the man’s phone and wallet, that contained $6,000 in cash. (How many of you are carrying $6K in your wallet?)
The Dyker Heights man tried to fight back, but the robber got away.
WANTED ROBBERY: On 5/22/22 @ 12:50 AM vicinity of Bay Ridge Ave & 13 Ave @NYPD68PCT the unidentified individual assaulted & removed property from the victim.
