Around 3:15 pm today, a man on a bike was hit on 65th Street and 4th Avenue.

May 3, 2022Loading Zone Letters Were Sent to Residents. Lobbyists Keep Winning in Bay Ridge!

Community Board 10 sent out this letter to residents on blocks where commercial loading zones will be installed.

Residents want to know what they can do to stop these locations from taking 52 -62 parking spots from 31 locations in the neighborhood. Some of these loading zones are just one spot – most are two. (Info From Video at 1:00 – Question asked by Dean)

Justin Brannan wrote in a private group that he is working with CB 10 on that. That is incorrect. CB 10 did not have a vote on this.
CB 10 was given “the topic” to discuss to make it look like the community was “onboard.” Many members were adamantly against these commercial loading zones in the community. CB 10 was not given the right to vote on these loading zones. We don’t think there is anything that can be done.

Here’s What We Know for Sure:
1) Councilman Justin Brannan voted in favor of the Loading Zones in NYC Council. (See the bill here) Brannan never shared this bill on social media or in his newsletter.

2) Brannan was lobbied for these loading zones by Red Apple Group (Gristedes Grocery Store). If you don’t like these loading zones in the community, vote him out.

You can see the lobbyist information here by searching for the Client: Red Apple Group. Lobbying Target : Justin Brannan
3) Community Board 10 had a meeting where people were told they could mark where loading zones should be. People were told these would be “neighborhood” loading zones, but they are commercial loading zones. (See meeting on video)
4) We do not know if Community Board 10 knew Brannan was lobbied for this. We wrote to CB 10 about another lobbying issue, but we didn’t hear back from them. We were concerned because this article said a man was able to meet with CB 10 and that’s how the school location was put in the community. The community should know any time there is a lobbyist is involved in decisions.
5) Bike enthusiasts may not have realized that they were owned by a billionaire’s lobbyist. They marked areas where they wanted loading zones due to traffic.
6) CB 11 were told that there were 111 loading zones citywide. Bay Ridge is getting 31 loading zones. Originally there were supposed to be 24 loading zones in Bay Ridge.
7) How were these loading zones chosen? It was very strange because a study was not done. People marked a map where they thought a loading zone could be, so * ONE * person could have marked the map for a loading zone on your block and and now there will be a loading zone there.
8) Who is advocating for our community? It looks like just lobbyists! Communities should try new programs and see if they work. Trying 3-5 loading zone locations would have been considered reasonable – not thirty-one. Show that the loading zones work in helping with traffic and then add more if they do.
9) The addition of these loading zones will feel like a movie is being filmed every day.
10) Someone on social media said: “At 6:00 pm, there will be a lot of parking spots in the neighborhood. That’s a lot of people sitting in their cars waiting for spots.
11) Since decisions for this community are being made by lobbyists – CB 10 should reveal the lobbyists whenever one is involved. Disclosure should be required.

May 3, 2022Bay 8th Street – Dyker Beach Park – Mechanical Bull?! CB 10 and 11 Want to Eliminate BBQ Areas

Over the last two years, the Dyker Beach Park at Bay 8th Street has changed. Community Board 10 and Community Board 11 had a meeting about the park.
Before Covid, there were families who to the park to barbecue on the weekends. Now there are large groups using the park with amplified sounds. People use strobe lights at night because the park does not have lights late at night.
The park is open until 1:00 am. Last weekend, Josephine said there was a mechanical bull at the park! (Who got that crazy?)
Neighbors of the park complained about fireworks, amplified sound and a non-family atmosphere.
People talked about the open fires because people are having children’s birthday parties in the park.
Bill Colton was present at the meeting, but didn’t have any solutions. Andrew Gounardes staffer was present – she didn’t offer any solutions from Gounardes. Why didn’t he attend? This was about public safety and Gounardes has been very weak in that area.
These are the solutions that CB 10 and CB 11 gave:
1. Add the NYPDs lights to the area, so the people don’t have to use the strobe lights
2. Hand out a list of the rules of the park – educate the people and have these papers in multiple languages. Sonia offered to speak in Spanish to people.
3. Give tickets for noise (officers have to be trained to use the sound meter)
4. Captain Tolson said he was going to send his community affairs officers and auxiliary officers. Lori Willis was glad there will be more of a presence in the park. She wants residents to tell her if the police presence has helped changed the park.
5. Dan wanted the Parks to update their signage in the park and have a link to the permits needed.
6. Both CB 10 and CB 11 voted to write a letter to eliminate the BBQ area in the park. WOW….that’s not good. I don’t BBQ there, but families who live in apartments love having that. Many people have a BBQ for children’s birthday parties.

May 2, 2022Why Would Kamillah Hanks Allow Brad Lander to Play Her District – Lander Has Low Property Taxes on His Home

Kamillah Hanks knows that her constituents have been overcharged for years in property taxes. Brad Lander has been in politics for many years and underpaying property taxes for years.
Why would should allow him to come to her district and give lip service to her constituents when she knows he isn’t going to do anything about it?
The property tax commission came back with their recommendations and not one politician did the right thing.
Brad wants to keep his low taxes, so this is a new type of socialism where politicians pretend they are going to do something but keep their tax breaks.
Mayor de Blasio did it for many years because my senator (Gounardes) was afraid to do anything.

May 2, 2022Andrew Gounardes Voted To Change the Law For His Friends In Speedy Votes This Spring

Governor Hochul made a bad choice with Brian Benjamin as her Lieutenant Governor. She should have done a better job vetting the candidate. Hochul wanted to remove Benjamin from the ballot, but NYS Election law stated that his name could not be removed unless he moved out of state.
A bill was written by Senator Liz Kruger to help Kathy Hochul. (See bill)

An immediate vote for the bill was done today.
Our community has been waiting for over three years for a bill about property taxes to be heard and these politicians can leap over the law. Andrew Gounardes said property taxes was going to be done this year, but he hasn’t made any move to have the bill heard (Gounardes hasn’t rallied or done anything, but campaigned.)

Andrew Gounardes voted YES so that the law to will be changed for Hochul.
The bill to remove Brian Benjamin passed the New York State Senate by a vote of 33-29. A lot of senators voted against the bill because they know the NYS Senate should not be using the law to bail out Kathy Hochul.
The bill also passed in the Assembly with a 82-57 vote, but the votes for the Assembly have not been published online, so we can’t see Frontus or Tannousis’ votes. They will be here
Changing election laws before an election says that the law isn’t valid and that those who voted YES don’t feel they need to uphold the law. Andrea Stewart Cousins, the head of the NYS Senate, said in an interview: “I really, really have difficulty changing things in the middle of the process, whatever that process is.” (Source) Stewart-Cousins voted in favor of the bill today because rules aren’t for politicians.
————————————————————————

Last month, Gounardes voted YES to a bill to help his friend, Brad Lander. Lander failed to file a bond and by law school have been made to leave office because he didn’t follow procedures. A bill was drawn up and passed both the Senate and House. See bill here (More info here)
Here’s Andrew Gounardes’ vote:

Again, the Assembly vote was not published, but should be here.
Andrew Gounardes is part of the broken government, where regular people can’t get any help from their elected leaders because the politicians are sitting around making laws for themselves and their staff members.
GOUNARDES FAILED TO INCLUDE THIS VOTE IN HIS NEWSLETTER BECAUSE HE DIDN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW.
