Instead of Correcting the Property Tax System, Justin Brannan Smiled Over School’s Budgets Being Cut and Property Tax Owners Getting A $150.00 Tax Break

As school budgets are cut, these NYC Council members, including Justin Brannan lined up for a photo.

Alexa Aviles, the Sunset Park Councilwoman shared the chart above in this tweet.

UPDATE: IF YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR SCHOOL’S BUDGET, GO HERE AND PUT IN THE NUMBER (WITHOUT THE PS)

Many schools will be picketing on Monday. Justin Brannan thinks it is cute to take photo, but these schools were shocked by their budgets that they had to write up this two-page letter. (See here)

The chart shows schools in poorer communities received budget cuts. The cuts are based on enrollment declining over the last two years. Chalkbeat published the attendance rates of schools here.

Did poorer communities lose more students during Covid?

Now on to the property tax rebate: I couldn’t find any information about the property tax rebate online. In the television interview, the politicians said they were giving the property tax rebate to keep people in NYC. But no one said how much the rebate was.

Brannan’s staffer was the only one talking about the tax rebate on social media. What he wrote isn’t true, according to what Brannan has written. (See here) In July 2020, Justin Brannan claimed residents were going to get a $300 property tax break. (See here)

When we received our bill that year, the city inflated the market value and charged us more tax.

Joe Borelli, a Councilman from Staten Island was on the news tonight. Borelli said the NYC property tax rebate was $150.00. The eligibility is based on income. The city is giving up 90 million for this – it’s not worth it.

Justin Brannan has failed to help his community and his press release on this issue will show how out-of-touch he is with his neighbors.

The leadership for our area is wrong. Anyone who was fighting for our community would have spoken out against this. (See here)

Andrew Gounardes failed to do anything about property taxes as well, except tweet about it.
