The Interview for the 68th Precinct’s Commanding Officer Was Great

Tonight, two candidates were interviewed for the Commanding Officer for the 68th Precinct. They allowed the community to watch on Zoom. Both candidates were qualified and capable.

We were glad to see a woman interview for this position and that the female Captain was very knowledgeable about our area because she lived and worked here. She was also very confident because she had a diverse background and knew this position was a good fit for her.

Surprisingly, no elected politicians attended the meeting. One staffer of an elected attended (but that’s not the same as an elected leader being present). One current candidate for NYC Council also attended.

Also surprising, there was low attendance of residents at the meeting. Residents were allowed to vote, but the residents vote is not the deciding factor.

While the NYPD doesn’t have to do the interviews like this, it is nice to see them trying to be transparent and include the community as well.

Andrew Gounardes Failed to Help a Small Business Owner Who Is Paying $35,000 in Property Taxes

Senator Andrew Gounardes shared pictures of him educating Sunset Park with his flyers outside the train station. LOOK how these people are living? The out-of-touch politician doesn’t see the filth that residents in Sunset Park are living in.

Small business owner, Erik Frankel was on television talking about his $35,000 property tax bill for his store on 3rd Avenue and 40th Street in Sunset Park. (See video)

This store, which has been in business for over 130 years is next to the BQE. The other business on the block is a porno shop, so they shouldn’t be paying a $35,000 tax bill.

Senator Andrew Gounardes refuses to help anyone with property taxes. Gounardes is the Chair of the Budget and Revenue committee in NYS, so he should have brought Brooklyn’s tax problems to Albany and led.

Today, Andrew Gounardes went on NY 1 News because he wanted to talk about the anniversary of the subway shooting last year. WHO DOES THAT HELP? NO ONE! Not one other politician was on the news for that.

Some politicians in our community are obsessed with the media, but they don’t want to do the work to help people!

Why Didn’t Community Board 10 in Bay Ridge Have the Courage to Speak Up Like Community Board 10 in the Bronx?

Public property in Bay Ridge was given to GetAround Car Sharing Company. Community Board 10 looks like they did a lot better job of standing up for the neighborhood. (See here)

Bay Ridge already has at least two car-sharing companies that pay for their own parking, where Century’s Department Store Parking used to be.

Community Board 10 didn’t do their homework – they never mentioned these companies. Community Board 10 also didn’t disclose that the Brooklyn Borough President had been lobbied by GetAround Car Service. That information is made public for a reason! (See here)

Finally, Senator Andrew Gounardes was promoting GetAround, even though they hadn’t done business in NYC. (See video) Gounardes won’t even promote a Bay Ridge business that opened near his office. (See here)

Gounardes should have answered Community Board 10’s question, “Why was only one company presenting to CB 10?”

Have the guts to speak up Community Board 10 members – no private company should be using our community like this!

Malliotakis Purchased New York Community Bankcorp Stock as Signature Bank Collapsed

Congressman Nicole Malliotakis is all over the news for purchasing New York Community Bankcorp stock. (Story)

Congresswoman Malliotakis tweeted on March 13th that she worked on Signature Bank’s closure. (See tweet)

Malliotakis’ purchased NYCBs stock on March 17th, which was two days before the FDIC announced that Flagstar Bank, a subsidiary of New York Community Bank, would take over the forty branches of Signature Bank. (Source)

On March 17th, NYCB’s stock went for $6.54 and Malliotakis purchased between $1,000 and $15,000. (The paperwork she filled out doesn’t ask for the amount, but politicians have to choose between a range.)

On March 20th, the stock rose 32% (Source). Today the stock is being sold for $9.16 (a 40% increase from the purchase price on March 17th).

If Malliotakis purchased $1000 in stock, she would now have $1400. If she purchased $10,000 in stock, she would have $14,000 in stock. This small amount of money doesn’t seem like it would be worth it for Malliotakis.

Malliotakis has always been about law and order. Why would she risk her reputation over this? She has even spoke out for transparency:

Nicole Malliotakis knows the media is watching her stocks. They tweeted about her February sale of Verizon stock. (See here) They also wrote this article. But it’s strange she didn’t purchase any other stock other than NYCB.

Signature Bank on 90th and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge has a Flagstar sign on it.

These two banks were involved in the property that is being auctioned on Friday on 4th Avenue. (See here)

Two Kids Died in an E-bike Fire in Queen, NYC Council Banned the Sale of Guinea Pigs

A seven-year-old boy and his teenage sister died in a fire caused by an e-bike. (Story)

NYC Council banned the sale of guinea pigs yesterday instead of the sale of defective e-bike batteries. How many people have to die in NYC before NYC Council does something about it?

How are so many men and women so disconnected from what is going on in NYC?

ACC received hundreds of guinea pigs after the pandemic, so that’s why NYC Council banned the sale.

Best Chinese Food in Bay Ridge or Nearby in Brooklyn

Here are good Chinese Food Take Out Places in Bay Ridge or Nearby:

1. Red Bowl at 8518 – 3rd Avenue

2. New Ruan’s Restaurant 1955 86th Street – since the pandemic they deliver on Grubhub and their food is always good.

2.  Happy Garden 7211 3rd Avenue is good (they also have vegan selections if your family/friends need that)

3. Grand Sichuan House at 8701 – 5th Avenue is good and they have some unique items.

6. Spring Garden on 87th and 5th. Not greasy

7. Fortune Cookie 13 Avenue only does takeout now – not a sit down restaurant anymore – just takeout

9. Dragon China 3rd Avenue  between 79th  and 80th Street – dumplings

We grew up with fried rice that was brown – not tan or yellow!

Here’s who still makes the brown fried rice the old style way:

1)  China New Star  2212 Flatbush Avenue – near Kings Plaza (This is where we go when we want classic Chinese Food)

3) New Ruan’s Restaurant 1955 86th Street (not as classic as it used to be, but they try….it’s okay)

4) Chopstix 790 Nostrand Avenue

Chopstix in Bay Ridge used to make the brown fried rice, but they must have changed their cook or something because we saw a difference in flavor (used to be a place called China Taste). Chopstix does have noodles and sauce for the table which is tasty.
