Learn English in Bay Ridge or Nearby in Brooklyn – Free
1. PS 264 has classes to learn English on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. 718-240-2770. Register here. There are other NYC schools outside of Bay Ridge which have free classes as well. (Info)
2) The Arab American Association has classes.
3) The Bay Ridge Center offers ESL Classes to adults 60+ in five week sessions. Call: 714-748-0650
4) The Sunset Park Library and the New Utrecht Library have classes on Monday and Wednesday from 10AM-1PM. This is the form to register: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSeC_Fd6wsA…/viewform
5) FDR High School has free English Classes. (See here) Call Thalia: 718-449-5000 ex. 2303

Mailbox Outside of 11228 Post Office Has Glue

A kind neighbor shared that there is glue in the slot of the mailbox outside of the post office at 8320 13th Avenue (the 11228 Post Office)
All reactions:

This has happened before in Dyker Heights. Mail thieves are trying to trap envelopes with checks so they can use chemicals to remove your name and then get money from your account.
Deposit your mail inside the post office or use another box that isn’t sticky!

Seussical Production by Genesis Program at Xaverian is a Hit! (Show on May 20th as Well)
Middle school students in the Genesis Program at Xaverian High School performed Seussical. Their play was a hit.
Tonight, Saturday, May 20th, they are performing it again at 6:00 pm.
Great play for children – tickets sold at the door – 7100 Shore Road.

APS Installed on 3rd Ave/96th St. & 86th & Ridge
Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) have been installed on the corners of 3rd Avenue and 96th Street (same block as Met grocery store). These are being installed all over NYC – see here.
The ASP devices communicate WALK and DON’T WALK to pedestrians who are blind or are visually impaired (they beep). Ron shared the above photo.
APS have been installed at 86th Street and Ridge Blvd as well. This morning.
Also seen in the photo are the red studded plates which were installed at intersections, which are also to help visually-impaired residents.

Message Left On a Pole in Bay Ridge to the Owner of a Tan Dog With a Green Sweater
A Bay Ridge resident saw this sign taped on the pole on 3rd Avenue and 73rd Street.
Trudy must be an animal lover and couldn’t stop thinking about this little dog being hurt.

8th Grader in Staten Island Shot – Now Braindead
A 13-year-old student from The Eagle Academy in Stapleton, Staten Island was playing basketball at a playground near the NYCHA Houses on Staten Island near 4:00 pm on Friday.
The boy was shot in the head.
He was rushed to the hospital and now is brain dead. (Story here)

Pleonexia – The School at Nathan’s on 86th Street
Here’s the middle school that’s being built in Nathan’s former location on 86th Street in Bay Ridge. (School info) It’s expected to open in September 2024.
We named it Pleonexia (meaning greed in Greek).
You asked me how to pronounce Pleonexia:
Next to the school is Avid Hotel, which is set to open in this Fall. (Info about the hotel)

Dog owners, please avoid 72nd Street between 4th and 5th Avenues. There is rat poison out on the South side of the block.
