September 19, 2023The Shore Road Dog Run Cost A Million Dollars!

A million dollars was spent for an enclosed area of grass and concrete, where owners will play on their phones, as their dogs poop.
I’m a dog owner and a dog lover and that was a waste of money.

In 2018, Justin Brannan allowed Bay Ridge to have Participatory Budgeting. The dog park was one of the projects and it was VOTED DOWN. People chose projects for schools and the park instead.
Then Brannan pushed the project anyway:

Years ago, I spoke online to Justin Brannan about this dog park and I told him that he didn’t need a dog park near his house.
Councilman Brannan told me his dogs couldn’t go to a dog park (he didn’t explain why). But in this article, Brannan said, “Luna and Fiorello, who’ve been absolutely beside themselves with anticipation since we told them about this new dog run.” (Source)
There are two dog parks in the area – one is poorly maintained. (See here) The other one is bit better, but the parks in our area of Brooklyn are not well maintained. (See Manhattan Dog Park)

September 19, 2023NYPD on Bay Ridge Avenue This Morning

This morning around 8:00 am, a scooter had trouble on Bay Ridge Avenue. People were gathered with the NYPD looking on. Then everyone left.
I wish every occurrence in NYC was this easy (for the police and for the residents).

September 18, 2023Communities Don’t Fail Because of One Person – They Fail Because of Many People

Tonight, Community Board 10 held their first meeting since the Spring.
I have never been more disappointed in my community.
In May, Community Board 10 voted against the high school on Ovington Avenue because there were many unanswered questions. (See here)
There are already three schools for children in the lower grades on on that block (see the red arrows below). The yellow arrow is where the high school was proposed.

This high school would not alleviate overcrowding at Fort Hamilton High School. A property closer to Fort Hamilton High School was given, but no reason was given by the School Construction Authority why it wasn’t explored.

During the Summer, Councilman Justin Brannan told a private Facebook group that he was proceeding with the high school on Ovington Avenue, despite almost members of Community Board 10’s Committee voting against it. (Info here)
In December 2022, Councilman Brannan had boasted about a new elementary school at this location in a Tik Tok video. (See here)
In February 2023 – two month after Brannan’s video, Acris showed a Satisfaction of Mortgage for the St. Nicholas Home. (See here)

Why did Josephine wait so long to have Community Board 10 vote in May when the deal was done in the Winter?
Why did Josephine call for an additional meeting for Community Board Members? I don‘t understand why everyone’s time was wasted.
Tonight, not one member of Community Board Member stood up for Bay Ridge.
Sadly, Jaynemarie Capetanakis, the Chair of CB 10 gave a huge speech and spoke about “easy topics,” like the Ragamuffin Parade. No one was willing to talk about real issues in Bay Ridge, but the Chairperson needed to.
Josephine also gave a long speech and failed to mention the school as well.
Finally, a person asked about the high school that was voted on by by CB 10 in the Spring. Jaynemarie Capetanakis did not respond. Capetanakis handed the microphone to Josephine. That alone should tell us something is VERY wrong!
Josephine said, “It is moving forward. It was voted on and supported by the City Council.” (I could not find a vote by the City Council and if there was a vote, why didn’t Community Board 10 share that vote?)
In the video below move to 1:34 on this video to hear the information:
Jaynemarie took the microphone and said, “to be continued.” That’s all she said about the school.
Anything that was going to be said or done about this situation would have happened over the Summer or at this meeting.
I’m shocked Jaynemarie didn’t stand up for the community.
If you unaware about the strange placement of schools such as at the Nathan’s location (7th Avenue and 86th Street) or the school placed in a business district on 5th Avenue and 88th Street (a block away from PS 254 on 4th Avenue and 89th Street), please see here and here. Justin Brannan shouldn’t be in office because our community is being hurt by what The City referred to as “Secret Lobbying.” (Explained here)
We should have seen Jaynemarie Capetankis take action for Bay Ridge. People are silent when they don’t care. There has to be a procedure in place by the City to investigate when “strange” things like this keep happening in our community!
A Community Board exists so elected representatives work WITH the community.
Many reasons were given for that school not to be put there. CB 10 members had many questions and no answers were provided from the School Construction Authority to the community.
Corruption happens because people allow it. What’s happening in Bay Ridge is unacceptable. Every single CB 10 Member should have stood up against the corruption OR RESIGN BECAUSE YOU ARE HURTING OUR COMMUNITY!

September 18, 2023Jonathan Rose Won in Reducing the Parking Spaces at Shore Hill

At the Community Board 10 Meeting tonight, there was some VERY brief information that Jonathan Rose Won in Reducing the Parking Spaces at Shore Hill.
I saw this information online. (See here (see section called Public Documents and here)
It’s strange that he won on this.
It’s also strange that Councilman Brannan did not speak out against the development. he stood and watched Vinny Gentile speak and none of that made any difference.
Information about this Ulurp did not appear in any newspaper or any information from Councilman Brannan. I didn’t find anything about it on Community 10’s site either.
I feel terrible for the residents who live on this street and for our community because Bay Ridge keeps losing.

September 18, 2023Residents Not Given Enough Info About Bay Ridge Prep’s New Location – CB 10 Meeting

I was excited about the new Poly Prep building until I heard the residents concerns near the school.
The building where the school is opening used to be occupied by quiet religious people, so this is going to be a huge change for them.
The people didn’t know how many students were going to be at the school or even when the school was opening.
The school will be opening in September 2024.
The following year, Bay Ridge Prep wants to build a gymnasium for the students in the back where there is parking. This concerned residents, since the staff will bring a lot more cars.

September 18, 2023Work Will Begin on the Elevator on 95th Street This Week – Residents Not Told

NYC is going to begin working on installing the elevator on 95th Street and 4th Avenue.
95th Street is a residential block. No one on the block has been told that work is going to begin or that the street will be closed for construction.
Whose supposed to inform the community of what’s going on?
Someone whose not doing their job.
It’s such a simple thing to do, but the people holding the jobs to communicate with the community aren’t interested in communicating with the community.
The leadership in our community needs to change!
