Max Rose Said Drugs are Coming In From JFK

Congressman Max Rose said that people are buying drugs through the dark web and drug dealers in China are shipping it here. They know they can take advantage of JFK’s lack of security. (More info)

In March, Rose said Fentanyl was coming to the US through the mail. (Source) That was the first time I heard a politician identify the mail as the problem. Rose is different and he approaches things differently.

Apparently, only 1% of mail at JFK is being screened.  Rose questioned homeland security about  reforms that were supposed to have been enacted last year. They said they were “looking into it.”  Half of all international mail that arrives in the US enters through JFK airport.

Why aren’t newspapers sharing this info?

Donate School Supplies in Bay Ridge

school supplies

You will see school supplies on sale for ridiculously low prices.

Buy It and Donate It to Grandma’s Love.

Grandma’s Love is an organization in our community which goes to schools and gives children basic things they need.

What do supplies do children need? Composition notebooks, pens, pencils, looseleaf, glue, plastic folders (the paper ones come apart too easy), Crayola crayons, colored pencils and markers.

Theresa Monteforte runs Grandma’s Love. She goes to schools and gives bags of food to children,  so they have food to eat over the weekend. (Yes, she is an angel!)

In September, Theresa brings the school supplies to the schools so that children have supplies, like their classmates.

You can contact Theresa here to dropoff items.

Mayor de Blasio at PS 170 Today

The meeting was about  “The Green Wave.” That means you get to wave goodbye to more of your property tax dollars.

On a more serious note, it was time for Mayor de Blasio and Polly Trottenberg to recognize that there is a problem with NYC street design – cars can’t ride with cyclists. See here

More covered lanes are coming – less parking spaces because Polly Trottenberg doesn’t know how to design streets well enough to make room for more parking. If you are a designer, you can make what people need.

A few weeks ago, Councilman Justin Brannan overrode Community Board 10’s decision on some bike lanes. I tried talking with Brannan – he didn’t care and he was actually kind of rude about it. Brannan thought paint on the street was good enough for our community.

I’m not sure who was in the audience at this meeting as some cyclists, including parents were fine with the painted bike lanes. They didn’t care if your child was safe, they just wanted painted bike lanes. Many cyclist deleted their social media supporting the painted lanes, since cyclists have died.

This afternoon DOT Commissioner, Polly Trottenberg said at PS 170, “The best way to make cycling safer is more protected bike lanes.”

Why didn’t Brannan choose that for Bay Ridge last month?  Why didn’t Senator Gounardes choose that for Bay Ridge?

Leif Ericson Day School in Dyker Heights Closed

Leif Ericson Day School just closed….we didn’t even see an announcement about this. It wasn’t mentioned in any of the local papers either. Leif Ericson was a private Christian grammar school at 1037 72nd Street. Next to the school is a church that was used by the school, so that is closed as well.

I didn’t hear any news of it closing. I just saw this message on Facebook.

Why didn’t the NYC School System buy this lot? Maybe it’s the wrong size? Many people aren’t happy with the set location for the new middle school – on the lot that was formerly Nathan’s on 86th Street.

Leif Erickson made an alumni group on FB here.
