Mayor de Blasio at PS 170 Today
The meeting was about “The Green Wave.” That means you get to wave goodbye to more of your property tax dollars.
On a more serious note, it was time for Mayor de Blasio and Polly Trottenberg to recognize that there is a problem with NYC street design – cars can’t ride with cyclists. See here
More covered lanes are coming – less parking spaces because Polly Trottenberg doesn’t know how to design streets well enough to make room for more parking. If you are a designer, you can make what people need.
A few weeks ago, Councilman Justin Brannan overrode Community Board 10’s decision on some bike lanes. I tried talking with Brannan – he didn’t care and he was actually kind of rude about it. Brannan thought paint on the street was good enough for our community.
I’m not sure who was in the audience at this meeting as some cyclists, including parents were fine with the painted bike lanes. They didn’t care if your child was safe, they just wanted painted bike lanes. Many cyclist deleted their social media supporting the painted lanes, since cyclists have died.
This afternoon DOT Commissioner, Polly Trottenberg said at PS 170, “The best way to make cycling safer is more protected bike lanes.”
Why didn’t Brannan choose that for Bay Ridge last month? Why didn’t Senator Gounardes choose that for Bay Ridge?
Hugs,
