June 29, 2020Justin Brannan Wants to Defund the Police?!
Update: Brannan voted in favor of this budget.

The term that’s being used: “Defund the Police” is incorrect. Brannan should have been the person to correct term (reorganize school security or transfer the school security from the NYPD to the Board of Education).
On Twitter, some guy asked about Brannan’s vote. I was surprised by Justin’s response.

Brannan is a member of the Progressive Caucus and that group issued this statement:

Brannan was included this file – see Tracker 4.0 at the top.
This is what Brannan wrote to his base after the budget – see here
Using the term “defund the police” doesn’t move us forward. Getting the people who are protesting a fair deal and building a community of trust with the NYPD should have been key.
We just got a new captain at the 68th Precinct. The neighborhood gets a chance to have a fresh start….Can you imagine what the new captain will think when he finds out how Brannan voted on this? It’s such a slap in the face to the NYPD.
For our community, there has been more crime. People see there are more robberies and people walking around the neighborhood scoping things out during Covid-19. This isn’t the time to defund the police.

June 29, 2020Loudlabs Records Fallen Tree in Bay Ridge
![]()
Adam from Loudlabs always gets the news from this area!
This was on Gelston Avenue between 86th and 90th Street in Bay Ridge.
No one was hurt, thankfully!
The resident there said they have called 311 about this tree many times because it was swaying. The city did not send anyone to check the tree. Watch the video:
Firemen are amazing!
This storm was really rough:
Very normal hail storm, def something I’ve seen in NYC before in the middle of summer ???? pic.twitter.com/AB8CFMhXDg

Update: June 30th – The tree is still there and a resident had to call it in – see here.

June 29, 2020Hobrah Requires Reservations Now – Safety
Hobrah had a large crowd this weekend. They issued this statement about now requiring reservations. 718-680-8226.
![]()
An open letter to our Brooklyn and Staten Island Communities:
Like most businesses, we’ve been struggling to keep our doors open as we navigate the Pandemic and subsequent re-opening phases and evolving guidelines. We have seen social media posts of crowds of people (some with masks, some without) gathered together on the streets in front of and around bars and restaurants from all over the city. We have also recently seen pics and posts of our restaurants specifically.
To say that we were caught flatfooted moving into phase 2 would be an understatement. To avoid the same issues we faced in the first week of phase 2 we immediately implemented a reservation only policy and doubled down on warnings that to-go cocktails are not to be consumed on the street. All staff and managers have also been instructed that if a guest does not comply with any and all NYS Reopening Restaurant Guidelines that that guest or party will not be served again irregardless if it’s a meal or meal / to-go cocktail combo.
The health and safety of our staff and guests is our number one priority and we look forward to responsibly serving the communities we work and live in.
The Kettle Black and Ho’Brah Family.

June 29, 2020NYC Fireworks in Coney Island Tonight
Mayor de Blasio decided that the Macy’s Fireworks would happen in different areas for six nights. Tonight was our night but they waited until 8:00 pm to tell everyone.
The above message was sent out to people who are subscribed to NYC’s messages.
Neither Councilman Justin Brannan or Mark Treyger told the community there would be fireworks this evening. It’s like they don’t know what is going on in NYC or just don’t care.
The Macy’s Fireworks were also in Queens and Manhattan tonight.
Neighbors who went said it was a small show and there was only a few people who went, but the kids loved the fireworks.

June 29, 2020Eric Adams Changed His Twitter Name
Why did Eric Adams change his Twitter name to @BKBoroHall ?
He used to be @BPEricAams Is he hiding from #Brooklyn because he knows his borough doesn’t want him to be mayor?
Eric Adams doesn’t want people to know he had a lot of problems because he has been saying stupid things!

June 28, 2020Blessing of the Bikes at Saint A’s in Bensonhurst
Parishioners of Saint Athanasius love St. A’s. You can’t blame them when they have such a well-connected pastor.
Saint A’s has an amazing pastor, Monsignor Cassato. He’s very in-touch with his community and when the pandemic started, he moved mass online and did his own videos as well. They are like a breath of fresh air in the sea of negativity on social media.

June 28, 2020Some Businesses Receive Free Supplies
NYC Business Commissioner, Jonnel Doris brought some businesses in Bay Ridge protective supplies, but many businesses did not receive anything. See here
![]()
Every business that is open in our area should have been brought PPE – it was purchased by the city for the businesses.
![]()
Why isn’t a car driving down the avenues and giving it to all of the owners? Why would Brannan post these pictures? This is not the time or photos. Everyone who is not in quarantine should not be lining up like they are at the prom to take a picture.
We asked twelve fourteen places in the 90’s this morning and they all said they needed to purchase their own supplies. We asked owners on 3rd, 4th and 5th Avenues as we thought maybe a BID organized it. But owners on each Avenue said they weren’t given supplies – some asked me if I knew who had it!
Why were those businesses chosen to receive supplies? Are these friends of the Councilman or his staffer?
Strangely, Councilman Brannan gave the job to a staffer who is also a business owner. Competitors of her place didn’t receive supplies.
Why is there always a discrepancy on who can receive and who can’t receive in Bay Ridge? Some businesses are just holding on so this should have been distributed evenly.
That’s how you know the wrong people are representing the area. The right person would have brought the supplies to the business owners. There are certainly enough staffers employed there to do so. And you know what? Those people would have been the first to call for the former senator to distribute things fairly – so why aren’t they?
The business owners are used to looking out for themselves and each other.
Owners aren’t going to go to a politician’s office to pick up masks when they are redoing their business to make it safer inside or setting up a new restaurant outside of their current locationn.

June 27, 2020Capano Calls for Jusitn Brannan to Fire Staffer
![]()
Bob Capano wrote in the Brooklyn Paper that Councilman Justin Brannan’s Chief of Staff should be fired because of his tweets. See article here
Councilman Justin Brannan didn’t respond to the article, but instead played the tacky social media game by thanking his staff. See here (the tweet has been removed)
Why would a staffer bother writing that on a Sunday morning? The former Senator used to have people in his office use social media poorly on Sunday morning too.

June 27, 2020Bay Ridge is Alive Again….Few Masks Worn
It’s great to see Bay Ridge alive and businesses doing well…..but it doesn’t look like people are taking the precautions needed.
Remember being 23 and being invincible?
Mostly that is who is out and about. It’s been three months without socializing and people are in need of human interaction….and for this age group – dating.
A lot of complaints were made to 311 about Bay Ridge businesses. See here Ariel from Mayor de Blasio’s office was in Bay Ridge last night – she wasn’t social distancing, but maybe she was reporting places. See here
Let’s hope what happened in Florida and some of the southern states doesn’t happen here.
