Palestine Day of Resistance in Bay Ridge 8/7
![]()
Remember the Palestinian Day of Rage on July 1st? Their event started good until a man in the group was given the microphone and he said, “Death to Israel. Death to America.” Then the crowd repeated that statement. (See video)
Not one person at the event spoke out against it. We understand the Palestinian’s beef with Israel, but that’s not a reason to wish death to America.
This Day of Resistance on 72nd Street and 5th Avenue on Friday at 4:00 pm. What organization is running this and are they screening speakers? This is their website and Instagram.

It took Councilman Brannan seven days to issue a statement in a private Facebook group. See here
Brannan told Ridgites he sent the statement to the newspaper, but no paper carried that story.
Isn’t that strange that Justin Brannan rushes stories to the papers and they print it the same day, but THAT story they didn’t!
Some of the signs have nice art, but is there a person with a slingshot or four men walking with soldier gear? (See below)

More posters on their website
Senator Gounardes didn’t find anything wrong with the statement as he never issued a statement about that hate. Calling Death to America is hateful, right?

August 3, 2020Did Embers Steakhouse Close?
August 2023 – Malone’s Chophouse opened in this location and it is amazing. (See here) See their menu (here)
Yes, Embers Restaurant closed.

Several people asked about Embers Steakhouse on 3rd Avenue and 96th Street because they didn’t see the restaurant re-open or set up outdoor seating area.
Yes, the restaurant is closed. They tried to revive the place with a different menu and specials. Then Covid hit and there were a lot of requirements on restaurants.
After it closed, it served as the headquarters for Republican candidate, Vito Bruno, who ran against Gounardes for for NYS Senate for Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Marine Park. After the election, the place has been empty.
The first sign that the restaurant was gone was that Embers website disappeared and no one answered the phone.
The two buildings have been for sale since 2019. Vinnie’s Butcher Shop closed after Pete died.

The listing for Embers changed a bit – 1st floor empty – delivered vacant.

The restaurant owner has not shared any information.
Vinnie’s had a stop work order on the door.

August 3, 2020NYC Sanitation Commissioner Wants For You to Clean The Street
NYC wants to loan the tools above and clean your own street so they don’t have to.
It looks like they will drive the tools out to you, so you can get sweeping!
On the website it says: “We support local community groups and block associations in their volunteer efforts to keep their neighborhoods clean through local block and street area clean-ups. Free loans of clean-up tools and equipment (for example, brooms, shovels, etc.) are available. For information, call 311.”
During the beginning of the pandemic, the Mayor and some City Council members advocated for cancelling alternate side “to help you, ” but then they couldn’t clean the streets because cars were there.
The Department of Sanitation reduced garbage collection in our neighborhood and 3rd Avenue really suffered.
Now they aren’t cleaning the streets because they don’t have money!?
You know the city has plenty of money from our neighborhood’s property tax. The least they can do is keep the streets clean.
If you do decide to do a street cleaning, protect yourself with gloves as many sanitation workers got Covid-19. Statistics are current:

August 2, 2020Iraqi House Restaurant in Bay Ridge Closed
![]()
Iraqi House Restaurant closed.
I was so sad to hear this news. Having a new business is hard enough. Covid-19 made things so much harder.
We got to see the owner, Mohammed Almandalawi right after he received the e-mail that his food was reviewed in the New York Times. He beamed with pride…and rightfully so as it’s not easy to get such a raving review from the NYTs.

7215 – 3rd Avenue
Mohammed shared his story with us. I imagined my great-grandmother felt the same way about being in a new country. Mohammed was such a pure soul and a man who loved his family!
We hope when Covid is done raging through the world, that Iraqi House will open some place in NYC and everyone will be able to try the amazing food Mohammed makes.

August 1, 2020Was There a Teen with a Weapon in the Park?
The Citizen App stated that the police received a report that there was an armed teenager in Leif Ericson Park (rifle).
All these police officers went in the park to get the teen – even though they knew there was a chance they could have been shot and hurt.
And there are people who want to defund the police in this community!
The video shows many officers walking someone out of the park and to the NYPD car.
Very persistent recording – see here
