A person was trapped in one of the vehicles. Emergency personnel had to work to get someone out of one of the vehicles. Hopefully, the people are okay.

August 13, 2020Luan’s Coffee Bar is a Hamburger Place
Last Fall, Luan’s set up as a coffee bar with a purple and white motif at 7405 – 5th Avenue. But we didn’t see it open.
Before the pandemic, we saw signs on the place that it was for sale. Then there was a sign in the window to rent the place for private parties.
Now Luann’s changed to a red and yellow scheme.
They serve hamburgers and hotdogs and have outdoor seating.
This used to be the location of Forme Spa.

August 12, 2020Gounardes Asked: “Where’s the Mayor” NOW?

For years the same games have been going on in this neighborhood with property taxes and illegal conversions. Andrew Gounardes has never called on the Mayor to help or assist our community.
But now it’s almost become a trend for elected Democrats to insult the term-limited mayor when something goes wrong.
Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes are friendly with the Mayor. Their club, The Bay Ridge Democrats was one of the first to endorse the mayor. Yet, neither of our representatives ever call on the mayor to help our community.
Now Gounardes is calling him because the trees aren’t being cut fast enough. The plan for NYC wasn’t set up correctly for this to be done.
Councilman Brannan is head of the Committee on Resiliency and Waterfronts (See here). I remember Brannan posting picture of him near the water. That Committee should have a plan for 911 calls during an emergency (See here), as well as companies outside of the area that can come and do cleanup. A lot of the companies in Brooklyn don’t cut large trees.

August 12, 2020Sunset Park – Covid-19 Rates Rise
Bay Ridge – put your masks on and wash your hands. Covid-19 is on the rise in Sunset Park. Some people are not wearing masks, but should be because this isn’t over.
Mayor de Blasio said positive cases were up this morning. The news is stating that 7% have tested positive.
Some Sunset Park Residents believe the rise in Covid-19 is due to the pool opening at the end of July.
The city brought more mobile testing tents and they are knocking on doors encouraging people to get tested.

Yes, I heard about the fines this weekend and they are so high! They haven’t published this week’s restaurants yet. You can see the list here.
These restaurants have been fined for “violations of pandemic-related Executive Orders” (not social distancing or patrons mingling, drinking and walking around the premises without facial coverings).

While some people will be annoyed with the owners for not following the ruls, these places are run by employees who may not understand the seriousness of the issue. It also can’t be easy to keep reminding patrons to wear a mask.
Update: This afternoon, Governor Cuomo’s site shared that Ponte Vecchio had it’s liquor license suspended. (See here)
