NYC Council Says Charge. Mama Rao’s Says No!
![]()
Shout out to Mama Rao’s Restaurant on 11th Avenue between 64th and 65th Street!
The New York City Council approved a bill that gives eateries’ the option to tack on a 10 percent “COVID-19 Recovery Charge” to a customer’s total bill to help restaurants offset the costs of supplies required to stay open during the pandemic.
Mama Rao’s shared on social media that are opposed to this and are offering customer a 10% discount instead!
They wrote: “We at Mama Rao’s are eternally grateful to our loyal customers for your continued support through the Co-Vid19 pandemic. It has been our pleasure to provide a comfortable, delicious, and safe dining experience to our community. In opposition to this government interference, Mama Rao’s WILL NOT be adding the 10% surcharge. In honor of our 19th Anniversary on 11th Ave, and a way of saying thank you to our customers, we are offering a 10% discount from September 18 until the 25th. We are all in this together.”
