3rd Ave. French Cleaners is Closing

Sadly, 3rd Avenue French Cleaners on 3rd Avenue between 94th and 95th Street is closing. This cleaners is across the street from Walgreens.
A sign in the window alerts Ridgites to the store closing and asks people to pick up their existing items.
Good luck to the owner. They have been in business for many years.

January 29, 2021You Didn’t Miss Anything at Justin Brannan and Senator Gounardes’ Property Tax Meeting for Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights on 1/29

Update: Brannan announced this was his and Gounardes meeting. Yet neither stayed for more than five minutes at the meeting.
Today, Justin Brannan and Senator Andrew Gounardes had a property tax meeting at 2:00 pm. I didn’t attend it, but my husband did.
Gounardes introduced the Department of Finance representatives and left the meeting within the first three minutes.
Andrew told the group he was meeting with middle school. Poor management on Gounardes’ part. I have seen Andrew do this several time during community meetings. But this was his meeting, so he should have been present for it.
At the start of the meeting, the Department of Finance representative tried to speak to Justin Brannan, but Brannan didn’t respond.
A few minutes later, Brannan interrupted the guy to make a speech about Covid stopping the property tax adjustment from happening. It shouldn’t have as the people who work in the Department of Finance offices were still working. They weren’t delivering food for those impacted by COVID. Brannan logged off soon after his spiel.
The Department of Finance staff wanted to showed the NYC website.

My husband felt this type of meeting would be appropriate for someone who just learned to use the Internet and was learning how to navigate. The meeting wasn’t to help home owners because home owners know about these exemptions already.
The Department of Finance speaker clicked a page and read off of the Department of Finance website:

Here’s how you can ask a question on the site:

When my husband asked two questions, the Department of Fiance Staffers didn’t respond to the questions. They told my husband to go to the online meeting in February.
When Lee asked who he could speak to in the Dept of Finance, the three representatives won’t give him a name. When you work with other city offices, they easily provide that information.
Being that this was Brannan and Gounardes meeting, Justin and Andrew should have been present to provide that information or should have instructed staffers to assist residents. No one assisted my husband.
Gounardes’ staffer was logged in, but had her video turned off. She did not did not say anything throughout the virtual meeting. When she saw my husband wasn’t receiving help, why didn’t she off to send the information?
As far as my husband could tell there was only three Department of Finance representatives, Gounardes’ staffer and him at the online meeting.
No one else asked any questions.
We believe this meeting was set up so a flyer could be made and it could look like Brannan and Gounardes were doing something because people are getting their property tax bills soon!

January 28, 2021Is a Homeless Shelter Coming to Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights?

The Brooklyn Paper wrote:
“Officials have not yet chosen a location for the other southern Brooklyn shelter, but are reportedly searching for a site within Community District 10, which encompasses Dyker Heights, Bay Ridge, and Fort Hamilton, according to the politico who spoke on the condition of anonymity.” (See article)

Not one politician in this area has spoken about a homeless shelter being put in the area. So much for having a city councilmember to represent the area!
A local paper shouldn’t be telling us more information than Brannan.
NYC is placing a homeless shelter at 2147 Bath Avenue for 150 single men. When the homeless shelter is for women or families, people don’t mind. But 150 single men gets the community concerned….here’s their petition against it.

January 27, 2021Brooklyn Democrats Mayoral Debate on January 31st – Several Candidates Pulled Out from The Debate

There was supposed to be a debate on Sunday at 6pm (Registration here)
Several candidates have pulled out from the debate because the Brooklyn Democratic Party allows Lori Maslow to continue to hold a Democratic District Leader position.
While many Democrats contend that Maslow should not continue to hold a leadership position, the Democratic Party Boss, Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn didn’t have Maslow resign. (Bichotte was busy getting married – see pics)
Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes did not speak out against the hate, even though they represent a diverse neighborhood.

January 26, 2021Home Owner Meeting at 2:00 on a Weekday When People are Working?

This senator thinks people are available for meetings at 2:00 pm. He must think you are all independently wealthy too since he hasn’t done anything about property taxes for two years!
Why wouldn’t someone in this representative’s office say, “Hey maybe 2:00 pm isn’t a good time to have a meeting because people are working.”
Registration is here.
