February 22, 2021Citibikes Are Coming to Bay Ridge

If there were covered bike lanes in Bay Ridge, Citibike would be great to have.

But there aren’t covered bike lanes because politicians around here overrode Community Board 10 and put bike lanes in some strange and even dangerous places.

Community Board 10 discussed Citibike plans to install several sections of Citibike for transportation reasons – not recreation.
It’s okay to say it Bay Ridge…..some people are terrible at riding a bike. Also there are terrible vehicle drivers in the area! So covered bike lanes should have been worked in a loop around the neighborhood, so children could ride safely.
Here’s where the Citibikes will be placed soon:

Each section will have 22 bikes. Some sites are on sidewalks, which is a good place for them to be, especially if children are riding them. They are all near the Leif Ericson Greenway (bike lane which is on the sidewalk).
A concern for this area was that the signage on the bike lane was not easy to see.
Community Board 10 said they were going to check with the NYC school safety committee to review each site as there are two near schools.
This is what Community Board 10 discussed:

February 21, 2021Fire at 8415 4th Avenue
A little after 8:00 pm tonight, there was a fire at 8415 4th Avenue.
The Citizen App shared that the fire was due to the residents cooking and it didn’t spread.
There were a lot of emergency response personnel present. (See here).
Thank goodness this was a less serious fire than the fire on December 28th on 3rd Avenue.

February 21, 2021Rosa’s Hair and Organic Skin Care Opened on 93rd Street in Bay Ridge

Welcome to Rosa’s Hair and Organic Skin Care – I saw their sign a few months ago in the storefront next to Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus’ office on 93rd Street – just off of 3rd Avenue.
Jeannette is helping Rigites have the best skin – men and women!
Congratulations to this business! It isn’t easy to open a business – especially not during a pandemic.

February 21, 2021Seeking Blue Honda CRV

On Sunday, January 31st, an 11 year old boy was struck on 71st between Shore Road and Narrows Avenue by the car above. The boy was helping his family move into their new apartment. He has a broken leg from being hit.
The family wants to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
The car is a dark blue (or dark green-blue) color. The police believe it’s a Honda (circa 2000/1 CR-V maybe?). No front plates, and they can’t make out the rear plates. Exposed tire on the back. Police suggested we crowd-source info.

February 20, 2021Andrew Yang Was Met by Muslims and Socialists in Bay Ridge

In January, Andrew Yang spoke out against BDS. and compared BDS to fascism. (See article) This angered many Palestinians.
Today during Yang’s tour of Bay Ridge, he was met by passionate Palestinians and some socialists.
Some mocked Yang and some tried to explain why his stance wasn’t correct for the next mayor of NYC.
And we have our first heckler of the tour ladies and gentlemen. A masked man yells that @AndrewYang fled the city during Covid. He is ushered out by the owner of Yemen Cafe. pic.twitter.com/CM4MEwqA2Q

At the end of his tour, they tried to talk to Andrew Yang again. Yang listened for a bit and then took off to the next stop on his tour – Bensonhurst.
After this exchange, the person from earlier in this thread who interrupted @andrewyang’s Yemeni Cafe stop stood in front of Yang’s car and prevented him from leaving. He was eventually shooed to the side and the candidate left for Bensonhurst pic.twitter.com/DrXeSSjBf4

Bay Ridge’s Muslim political group, Yalla also was not happy with Yang. They tweeted:

Earlier in the day, they let Yang know they thought it was disrespectful to stroll the area without meaningful engagement with Muslim groups.

I was so happy to introduce @AndrewYang to our beautiful Yemeni community in Bay Ridge! There are many Yemeni small businesses that contribute to the vibrancy of our neighborhood. They deserve support from the next mayor as we recover from this economic crisis. #bayridge #Yemeni pic.twitter.com/I2i5ginIbV

How will Yang manage his campaign now that he knows he made this opposition early on?
