May 15, 2021Some Palestinians Don’t Know How to Protest
Thousands of Palestinians protested in Brooklyn. Some went on the highway and thought it was a good idea to get your attention by stopping and inconveniencing you.
#BadIdea
If you want people to sympathize with Palestine, post the pictures of the deceased children – don’t block our highways.
C’mon if you are Brooklynites, you know life hasn’t been easy and having a family in the car stalled in traffic is not fun. The news didn’t show those on the highway – only Youtube does.
When you protest – do it right – get everyone on your side and sympathizing with your cause.

May 15, 2021Large Protest in Bay Ridge – 5th Avenue and 71st Street at 4:30 pm – Nakba

I haven’t seen any politicians mention Nakba 73 happening in our area today, but they should have!
There’s always been a clash between Israel and Palestine as they fight over the land, but this year things intensified.
This is what is happening while the people pray:
Israel’s military killed Palestinians by air strikes during Ramadan.
Israel’s military has been removing Palestinians from their homes like this:
The media hasn’t been showing the truth, so the people are putting it out on social media. But now social media platforms are censoring them as pictures and videos are disappearing.
Because Israel is American’s ally, the Biden administration is not stepping in to help Palestine. This is a modern day genocide. The history books will show that in 30 years from now.
Don’t watch this one – it’s awful:
There will be protests in different parts of the world today. Bay Ridge is marked as one of the places for the largest protests. (See here)

While I have no doubt this will be peaceful, 69th Street to 75th Street and 5th Avenue will be busy today.
London had 150,000 people at their Nabka demonstration this year. It was considerably smaller in 2020. (See here)

May 14, 2021St. A’s Community Prayed – GoFundMe Info

The St. Athanasius Community in Brooklyn sticks together. Early today, the cross at St. A’s was vandalized/damaged.
Tonight parishioners and friends gathered outside St. A’s. Together, they lit candles, prayed the rosary and in traditional Catholic-style called on all the saints they could name. One of the parishioners said, “We don’t hate anyone. We love everyone.”
Finally they sang “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” (See video here)

A GoFundMe was established to pay for the damage done at St. Athanasius. (See here)
I believe I saw Assemblyman Peter Abbate in the video. Who woke him up?

St. Dominic’s sign was brought to St. A’s and laid on the ground. The sign said to Love your God with your mind, heart and soul. And love your neighbor as yourself.” Under that there was the word love in 40 different languages. “We all speak the same language of love.” Last Friday someone cut the banner, pulled it off the wall and and threw it over the wall.

May 14, 2021St. Athanasius Cross and American Flag Burned. Police Classified This as a Hate Crime.

The pastor of St. Athanasius, Msgr. Cassato announced that the outdoor wooden cross was vandalized.
The American flag was also burnt.

The church announced this afternoon that everyone was gathering at the church at 7:30 pm. (Update: See here)

Tonight at 7:30 pm, there will be a prayer service on the corner of 61st Street and Bay Parkway because Msgr. Cassato declared: Hate Can’t Win. (See here)

Parishioners at. St. Anthanasius were very angry, but Msgr. Cassato spoke to them about forgiveness!
While it’s easy to get upset, understand that this act of vandalism is by someone whose angry or very bored and wasn’t thinking. The pandemic has done strange things to people.
Msgr. Cassato asked: Where are our Political Leaders? Andrew Gounardes is campaigning with Eric Adams, so he’s too busy to notice and probably won’t do anything if he knew. Gounardes is not responsive to the community unless their is a camera around.
Msgr. Cassato asked: Where’s the media? (LOL! Msgr. Cassato doesn’t know that he has to write the press release and privide the photos – there isn’t anyone coming to take pics. Remember when journalists did their jobs?)
During the pandemic, Msgr, Cassato reached out to Brooklyn through videos and social media. He’s very connected to the people and the community. This past year he was named the vicar of Catholic Schools. (See here)
On Facebook, Msgr. Cassato asked everyone to share this story and let people know what is going on.
He wrote: “This exhibition of violence and religious hatred is very disturbing. This is definitely an offensive act not only to our Parish but to the Catholic Church! This is unacceptable!

On Saturday, May 15, 2021, the news said the police have classified this as a hate crime.

May 13, 2021Antojitos Coro York Mexican Grill Opened

Welcome to Antojitos Coro York Mexican Grill! This new restaurant is at 7215-A 3rd Avenue.
Antojitos means snacks. Congratulations to the new owners!

This restaurant is between Happy Garden, on the left, and Blue Agave on the right.

This used to be Piccante at Home (See here). It was an extra preparation place for Piccante Restaurant. Don’t worry Piccante is still there for your risotto cravings.
Before the pandemic, this was my beloved Iraqi House Restaurant. That restaurant was one of the first casualties of Covid-19 in Bay Ridge.
