Accident on 5th Avenue and 72nd Street

Right before 6:00 pm, there was an accident on 5th Avenue and 72nd Street. (See here)

The Citizen App said a person was blocking traffic. The videos showed a accident where a motorbike was hit. Then a lot of people were talking to the police.

The bike is seen standing up in one of the videos. There are also no ambulances in any of the videos, so hopefully it wasn’t too serious.

Brannan and Gounardes Are “Waiting on de Blasio” AGAIN

Many senior citizens in Bay Ridge are fully vaccinated. They want to get back to normal life and see their friends.

Some seniors have called on Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan to open the senior centers.

Some seniors are very persistent (Great work guys – you are fighting not just for yourselves, but for many seniors who don’t have access to the web or aren’t doing well because they have been alone for so long.)

On May 3rd, Brannan and Gounardes wrote a letter to the Mayor and Governor. Then they practiced press release politics and shared the letter, so it looks like they are doing something. (See here)

A week later, Brannan went on Facebook and shared the old article. One person in the comments caught him, but you will see many people just politely thank Brannan. Brannan thinks he fooled them. (See here)

Two weeks after the politicians wrote their letters, nothing has happened. By now, Gounardes and Brannan should have taken action for the seniors.

What didn’t Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes put tables and chairs outside in the parking lot of the senior center? There’s plenty of room for the seniors to gather outside.

The four politicians offices (Brannan, Gounardes, Frontus and Malliotakis) in our area could have worked together and each taken a day to host the seniors outside their office. Call the city and have the senior lunches delivered there. Many of the seniors don’t have families in Brooklyn!

The politicians could have worked with the churches and assisted them in creating outdoor areas for the seniors to gather and play cards or crochet. Several local churches have senior programs, like St. Anselm and St. Ephrem’s. These organizations may appreciate some help from the politicians.

When the mayor is busy and can’t respond, the lower level politicians should be able to work and make things happen in their community. For some reason, we have politicians who like to act like their hands are tied and they can’t do anything. Waiting for Cuomo or de Blasio shouldn’t the be the answer from any elected leader!

DO SOMETHING….DO ANYTHING. Politicians – stop writing letters and articles and help people! Gounardes and Brannan appear to be wrapped up in other people’s campaigns and aren’t doing the real work in their neighborhoods.

Curtis Sliwa and Brian Fox Went to St. Athanasius

I saw that Curtis Sliwa and Brian Fox went to St. Athanasius to check-in with Monsignor Cassato. The story behind this picture is interesting. (See the video here)

A flag was burned outside of St. A’s and a wooden cross was knocked over outside the school on Friday. Sliwa and Fox took the time out of their weekend to show support to a religious leader. I like the new flag they brought the pastor.

Where’s Eric Adams, the current Brooklyn Borough President? No where to be found as usual.

Nabka in Bay Ridge – Free Palestine Protest

Photo: Mohamed Bahe “Muslims Give Back”

Thousands of people – Palestinians and non-Palestinians gathered on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Everyone is tired of the senseless deaths of Palestinians – especially of Palestinian children through the bombings. And leaders are siding with Israel instead of yelling ENOUGH!

.

The protesters started out on 5th Avenue, but then walked down to 3rd Avenue to share the message with the community. There was easily over a thousand people there – see video.

Press Play:

Linda Sarsour shared this photo:

There was no counter-protest. Some people thought this was a sign that Israel was winning, but it’s Saturday and that’s the Sabbath day for counter-protesters.

The local news asked people at the protest where they were from – many were from NJ. They had come to show their support.
