Baci Restaurant – Whose Helping The Neighbors With the Noise Complaints

During the Community Board Meeting last night, families signed up to speak about the noise coming from Baci Restaurant. Baci Restaurant is at 8424 – 3rd Avenue.

The police have gone to Baci’s, but the sound and noise complaints continue and nothing is being done to help the neighbors. C’mon 68th Precinct – help these people. Why have elected leaders like Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes not helped these residents?

In 2019, residents started making complaints to 311 about Baci Restaurant. Baci was told to remove the speakers that played outdoors – they did, but they have been added again. The residents have spoken to the manager of Baci and he continues to play loud music.

The owner of Baci’s restaurant came to the meeting and apologized. The owner said he doesn’t mean to cause trouble, he admitted that music has been played loud and it will not happen again. He said it is an old building and that is part of the problem. The owner said he added insulation to the building to stop the vibration, but it didn’t work out. The outdoor speakers have been removed.

144 88th Street – Partial Balcony Collapse

This evening, a house at 144 – 88th Street had a partial balcony collapse. See the video here

The firemen are all in good spirits in the video, but the home looks terrible! We are just glad no one who lives there was hurt – Thank God!

Many residents shared videos on Citizen – here.

Steve shared this video taken tonight:

The residents have relocated until the owner is able to get things repaired. (Councilman Brannan wrote about it here)

Floral Workshop in Bay Ridge – July 11th

On Sunday, July 11th at 6:00 pm there is a floral workshop in Dyker Heights at WFM Floral Shop at 8421 – 7th Avenue.

I didn’t know this store existed because I am not on 7th Avenue often. But their bouquets are gorgeous! Look here.

The class is $120 which includes the supplies, instruction, champagne and snacks.

In this class, you will learn how to make a bouquet and how to wrap it in their style and drink champagne too!

I love how things are coming back and new events like this are taking place right in our neighborhood!

Gounardes’ Bail Reform Allowed Kahlil Ivey to Have Been Released on Friday and Hurt This Coney Island Family

On Friday, two women in Coney Island and two children were sent to the hospital after a carjacking. (Story here)

Kahlil Ivey had been arrested on Thursday for committing grand larceny and possession of stolen property. (Source)

Yesterday, the Gounardes family celebrated Father’s Day and the senator shared pictures on social media.

The family involved with the carjacking were at two different hospitals (the children were at Coney Island Hospital and the mother was at Lutheran….and yes, it’s called Lutheran in the news although it has been renamed NYU Langone Hospital).

We agree that bail reform was necessary so that people didn’t get stuck in the system due to poverty.

But something needs to be done because the system is allowing these criminals to become repeat offenders in Brooklyn. Arrests are not being taken seriously now.

When politicians change the law and they see things are going berserk, why haven’t corrected the loopholes in the bill that allow criminals to be repeat offenders?

Commission Shea has repeatedly called for politicians to make a change to the bail law because there are too many criminals abusing the system.

Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus and Senator Andrew Gounardes have ignored Commissioner Shea and refuse to work with law enforcement on correcting this issue.

This young family didn’t deserve to be the collateral damage of a loophole law.

New Arcade in Sunset Park

Yesterday, Brooklyn Games and Arcade opened at 6120 – 4th Avenue in Sunset Park.

While slightly outside of Bay Ridge, I bet many parents will take their children down to play some old skool type games! 2 hours for $5.00 – Open until 5:00 pm, but I saw somewhere where it will be open later (until 10:00 pm).

Congratulations to the new owner – we wish you a lot of success in this fun place!

Happy Fathers Day, Bay Ridge!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads in Bay Ridge.

To all the people who lost their fathers this year and this is a hard day, know that the grief never fully goes away if you had a really great Dad.

At the end of my father’s life, he wasn’t able to speak, but he could respond. I sat for many hours talking to him in the hospital. At the time, I thought being at the hospital and not seeing any changes was torturous. It’s something I am very grateful for now.
