May 28, 2021Malliotakis Bill for US Embassies to Display Just the American Flag

In the situation of US embassies, an American flag is the only flag needed. But the displaying of flags has become another issue where people feel they are left being left out or not represented.
If you have ever known someone who had to use a US embassy while they are overseas, then you know how important the embassy is. It’s a relief to see an American flag when you are out of the country and having difficulty.
Nicole Malliotakis’ bill limits reverses the current directive allowing for political and non-government flags. (Read Malliotakis’ bill here)

Embassies shouldn’t be making any other statements, except that it is there for American citizens. Of course other the flags are nice and worthy of being flowing in other areas in America (as long as they aren’t flags expressing hate or lies).

May 27, 2021Are There Lobbyists Behind the Sound Cameras?

Ben Brachfeld reported about “noise cameras” which Senator Gounardes wants to monitor our area. (See here)
It’s interesting that Brachfeld reported about this as the NYS Senate session is ending soon and I don’t think this is on the calendar. If Ben Brachfeld researched this topic, wouldn’t he have looked into when the Sleep Legislation was being brought to the Senate floor?
I think this is just Senator Gounardes’ way of stuffing the newspaper with a story. Shouldn’t Gounardes have been more concerned with the 3rd Avenue Truck Route that was mentioned in the paper today, instead of this nonsense?
People are running around freely shooting guns at other during the day time and Senator Gounardes is concerned about using “noise cameras.” Why? Is there a lobbyist company pushing these noise cameras?
Ben Brachfeld failed to mention in his article that ShotSpotter was added to our area without any politician speaking about it. (See here) Why didn’t Senator Gounardes let people know? Every few weeks a new one appears and people ask what it is.
In our area, the camera lights are not effective. How do we know? We see how drivers avoid camera lights by using blocks that don’t have them. Why don’t politicians see that?
We have politicians like, Brad Lander are repeat offenders of camera lights. (See here) Someone outside of the company and these government offices needs to do a real study and see if these cameras are effective before NYC purchases any more.
Finally, Brooklynites should be very weary of any politician referring “new technology” to the area “to help us.” Eric Adams and Justin Brannan pushed a drone bill for lobbyists even during the pandemic. (See here)
Are there lobbyists behind the “noise cameras?” I’m not sure. But I ask because Verra Mobility, the company that has the NYC contract for cameras lights has lobbied Councilman Justin Brannan under the name American Traffic Solutions for two years.

It’s interesting that NYC allows lobbyists to list alternate names for the company when their contract was secured with the city under “Verra Mobility.”
Why would American Traffic Solutions spend the time and money to lobby a Councilman in an areas where there were already red light cameras?

The company put down “Relationship Building” with Councilman Justin Brannan.

Brannanites, if you want to see this information in the NYC Lobbyist Database – go here. On the top left, where it says “Search by Client” type American Traffic Solutions in the box and then go down to the dark blue button at the bottom that says Select Targets. Type Justin Brannan, search, click on his name when it comes up to select him and then the orange button to Submit.
We’ve seen these two politicians work together before when someone greased the wheel and it wasn’t good! (See here)

May 27, 2021Truck Route For 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge – Politicians Silent As Usual

Someone at the EDC thought thought putting a truck route down 3rd Avenue would be a good idea. (See News)
Did you hear Senator Gounardes speak out about this?
No, me either! Silent Gounardes doesn’t do much to help this community and once again leadership is going to barrel over him. (We’re on the 3rd year with Gounardes and he hasn’t done a thing about property taxes.)
Justin Brannan hasn’t been a good leader for Bay Ridge for several years. He’s supported developers and changes have been made in favor of developers, which has left Bay Ridge open to other changes. In the paper, he is quoted as saying that the plan was “dead on arrival.” If it’s dead on arrival, why is it in the paper, Councilman?
*Councilman Brannan also said a hotel wasn’t coming to Bay Ridge and a hotel is going to be built in Bay Ridge!
The fact that this issue wasn’t spoken about by ANY elected leader already says we have a problem in representation!
3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge is quite a bit different than 3rd Avenue in Sunset Park so it’s interesting that any elected leader would think that was the “ideal” place for a truck route. And now Third Ave is pretty crowded with all of the outdoor dining (and don’t complain because these businesses need to make some money!)
I guess someone is looking to destroy the small businesses in Bay Ridge. No one who understood this area or small businesses would think this was a good idea. The last thing Bay Ridge needs is a truck route!

May 27, 2021Congratulations Something Greek Restaurant!

If you love Greek food and you live in Dyker Heights, you are going to be happy!
In mid-June, Something Greek Restaurant in Bay Ridge will be opening a second location in Dyker Heights! The new location will be on 13th Avenue and 78th Street.

Don’t worry, the old location in Bay Ridge – 7616 3rd Avenue is staying put. Everyone loves Something Greek!
In December, I wrote on here what my husband loves to order from Something Greek because I never heard anyone talk about it. The next time we called to order it, they told us it was sold out that night. He was so mad at me for mentioning it. (See here) I get the yemista when he orders that – it’s really good, but they only have it once a week!

May 27, 2021Huge Traffic Jam in Bay Ridge – No NYPD?
Tom shared this picture here.

There was an accident on the bridge and Bay Ridge streets were backed up. The not-so-strange part: Not a police officer was in sight to help.
Where were the NCO’s for this area?
I have never seen any NCO’s for this area walking around. Why does the Captain of the 68th Precinct allow this?
Councilman Brannan has never done anything to correct this problem, even though he has been made aware of it. (Oh yeah he was part of City Council that used the term: “defund the police!”)

May 27, 2021Bay Ridge Dealership Owner Apologized and Sets Up New Protocols After Death. Senator Gounardes Twisted Situation

”
At the Community Board 10 Meeting this month, Robert Sabbagh, the owner of the Bay Ridge Volkswagon Dealership spoke about the tragedy that happened outside of his dealership last month.
Sabbagh took responsibility for how the incident happened with his valet service. These details were told to me on the day of the incident by Bay Ridge residents, but newspapers did not share that information. Sabbagh explained at the meeting (in the video above) that the victim had bent down outside the dealership (possibly to tie her shoe).
Sabbagh seemed sincere as he outlined the changes he had made for safety at his dealerships. He spoke about hiring additional staff to direct cars out of the lot, establishing better protocols with employees and renting space to park additional cars off the lot (he named the property behind the lot and in Centurys’ parking lot).
Senator Gounardes didn’t attend Community Board 10’s meeting. He sent a staffer because it is not an election year and he doesn’t need votes. By now, Gounardes should have corrected his statement on the accident!
When the accident happened, Gounardes blamed a heavy SUV vehicles for the incident. See press release below and here.

Gounardes continued to pursue the “heavy vehicle issue” instead of following up with Sabbagh, the dealership and the NYPD. Gounardes had a bill for the street activist group that supports him. He wrote a bill for them about rating heavy SUV’s so he teamed this fatality up with it. The bill was out earlier this year and has nothing to do with the incident on 4th Avenue. (See here) This is how “playing politics” hurts our neighborhood.
This is the second time I have seen Gounardes use the death of a senior in our community as political bait for an old bill he wants to push for his base, the bike activist group. When Frank Decolvenaere died, police said it wasn’t due to speeding. (See here) Out-of-district street activists used the story and said it was. (See here) Gounardes proclaimed he introduced a bill to prevent this from happening again, but the stagnant bill was introduced long before Frank’s passing.
Councilman Justin Brannan accepted money from another Bay Ridge dealership on 4th Avenue last year after calling that dealership out on social media. (See here) We have not heard of Brannan following up with situation either as his current social media is filled with politicians he is pushing for election in other areas in NYC.
Last year, this area in Bay Ridge was supposed to be re-evaluated, (See here) but politicians didn’t follow up because Gounardes thought this was caused by speeding. Brannan also wanted the police to say this incident was due to speeding. (See here)
Finally, both Gounardes and Brannan have endorsed speedster, Brad Lander for Comptroller. How does a politician who pushed red light speed cameras support someone who consistently disobeys the law? Lander has shown that driving through speed cameras and getting tickets isn’t a seriously issue. (See here) All three pols look like idiots because when Gounardes ran for office they made a big stink about Golden’s terrible driving record, which is just slightly worse than Landers.
