June 26, 2021Robbery at Urban Steam Lab in Bay Ridge

Last night, during Open Streets on 5th Avenue, there was a robbery at Urban STEAM Lab. Someone went into the shop and stole the owner’s backpack which contained a laptop, keys, The STEAM Machine keys (the truck they bring to locations to do projects with the children) and wallet. The wallet fell out of the backpack as the person ran away and it was returned by a good Samaritan.
If anyone has any information or saw someone running with a orange-brown Carhartt backpack with stuff falling out in front of Skinflints Restaurant between 8 and 9 PM, please Urban Steam Lab on 5th Avenue and 79th Street so they can give more information to the police.
Urban Steam Lab posted this message and these flyers:

Urban Steam Lab at 7912 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge is a very nice business.
They give back to the community by doing free STEAM events for children. Now they can’t operate their STEAM truck because their keys are gone.

June 25, 2021Maimonides Breaks Ground in Bay Ridge
Maimonides broke ground on a 15,000 square foot freestanding emergency department, where Victory Memorial Hospital used to be in Bay Ridge!
This hospital is on 92nd Street and 7th Avenue.
In 2008, Suny Downstate bought this building, but then it closed.
The neighborhood is happy to see an emergency center coming back to this location. Even the 68th Precinct tweeted about it:
Today @MaimonidesMC broke ground at the former site of SUNY Downstate. Best of luck!@NYPDCommAffairs @NYPDBklynSouth pic.twitter.com/YwFc6FE38M

June 25, 2021Marty Golden is Listed as the Senator

I saw this flyer a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t share it because I thought it was old/wasn’t updated.
It has SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN listed on it?!
The event took place on Shore Road and the 68th Precinct this week and the precinct shared the flyer and pictures on Twitter. See here
So there are people who think Marty Golden is still the senator. Did he fund this event? Or do these people just want Gounardes to know he is a terrible senator?

June 25, 2021Teaching During a Pandemic
It’s nothing like teaching in a classroom.
I will never complain about how loud a class gets again – I miss the noise.
I went to school all Summer last year so I would be ready for this year. It helped. I also applied to a program which gave me a very generous grant.
With the grant, I was able to give students a bag of supplies to build their projects. Over 350 families came to my house to pick up their supplies. I didn’t have anyone not come. *And everyone had the same supplies to build with – which was awesome!
In their bag was LEDs, coin batteries, a motor, contruction paper and a lot of other general supplies. For 10 weeks, students built projects in their Zoom room with their friends. Then they shared videos of them with their classmates.
I had 100% attendance every day at 8:00 am. My students are amazing and resilient.
While I rarely mention that I am a teacher, this year was a lot harder than other years.
