Paper License Plates Are Sometimes a Problem – Some Cars in Our Area Have This
We have a lot of cars in the area with these strange paper license plates.
The Post article stated: “Bogus plates have been connected to 33 shootings and 60 other incidents where shots were fired, according to Chief of Department Rodney Harrison, who added that he believes that’s “lowballing” the figures.” (See here)

Another Genesis/Sigue Global Storefront
Genesis/Sigue money transfer opened at 7207 – 3rd Avenue.
There’s another one at 8523 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.
People send money to other countries through Sigue. (See here)
Sadly, this was the beautiful store called: On Pointe Dancer Supply store. It closed during the pandemic as there wasn’t enough business.

Viking Festival in Bay Ridge – June 19th
Congratulations to the Scandinavian East Coast Museum who will be bringing Viking Fest to Bay Ridge for the 20th Year.
On Saturday, June 19th head over to Owl’s Head Park (aka Bliss Park) from 11:00 am – 4:30 pm for fun and activities.
Celebrating culture is always great for Bay Ridge and this is always nice event in the park for children and families.
This event was originally planned for May, but Covid-19 procedures weren’t ready for it.

MAIMO is Taking Over Victory Memorial
Whether you call it Victory Memorial or SUNY Downstate Medical Center at Bay Ridge, this hospital building is going to be taken over by Maimonides Hospital.
It will be a hospital with a real emergency room again – not just a treat-and-release center.
I could see something happening, so I snapped the photo above as we were driving by.
The Brooklyn Paper said the announcement is coming on June 25th. (See here) Read the story, especially at the end (EWWW)

Why Doesn’t the 68th Precinct Have a Gun Buy Back in Bay Ridge?
Attorney General, Leticia James collected 79 firearms at a Queens Buy Back event this weekend. (See here)
A buy back event is when gift cards and ipads or Chromebooks are offered in exchange for guns – no questions asked.
I’ve heard some “know-it-all” politicians say that buy back programs don’t work. If they got 70 guns off the streets in Queens, that looks like buyback programs work!
Bay Ridge and the surrounding areas have not had one of these events.
Why? This is a great opportunity for someone to get rid of a weapon or get one out of their home.
The area has a Moms Demand Action group and they have never pushed for a buy back??

Gounardes Supports Politician Who Speeds Through Red Light Cameras
Brad Lander made the news in April because he was caught driving through red light cameras repeatedly. (Story here)
It’s strange that Senator Andrew Gounardes would tell people to vote for a man who disregards the bill he created for the red light cameras.
Either Gounardes wasn’t really interested in the red light cameras or he’s just about pushing politics – even politicians who think they are above the law.
Strangely, Gounardes was at the station pushing Eric Adams. People questioned why Eric Adams signs were attached to the train station. It’s weird that Gounardes wouldn’t correct that after people pointed it out.
Gounardes voted in favor of bail reform, so it’s strange he would side with Adams. Adams and Brannan have been pushing a Drone bill for lobbyist during the pandemic so we know why Brannan is with Adams. (See here) Their club, The Bay Ridge Democrats did not endorse Adams.

Someone shared a really nice video of a cake from bay Ridge Bakery.
I thought it was the bakery’s Youtube, but it is a regular person and I they must love this chocolate caramel cake.

Ft. Hamilton Senior Program Not Restored – Brian Fox Wrote With Suggestions
WOW the Fort Hamilton Senior Center was turned into a Learning Bridges Program to provide care for children of essential workers.
Now the Senior Citizens can’t have it back! Brian Fox called on Marty Maher to do something for the seniors!
While other senior centers opened around NYC, Bay Ridge’s senior citizen was not allowed to open!
I’m not surprised that Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan wrote a letter and did nothing else for the seniors.
Brannan and Gounardes fold to their party over and over AGAIN…..they haven’t been able to stand up for the people in this neighborhood for several issues now.
When Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan saw this block, WHY DIDN’T THEY DO SOMETHING FOR THE SENIORS? They could have invited them to play cards outside their office!
Both Brannan and Gounardes are busy campaigning for candidates in NYC instead of doing their jobs!
Great advocacy for Bay Ridge, Brian Fox!!
When the seniors weren’t able to used Fort Hamilton Senior Center they should have been offered a close alternative meeting place – either outside in a school yard or even outside the center.
I like that Brian Fox offered a solution to the problem as well!
I’m glad that Brian Fox sees this as being important because the seniors haven’t gathered in over a year and it’s time to get the vaccinated seniors back to their lives and enjoying time with their friends.
