Gounardes’ Bail Reform Allowed Kahlil Ivey to Have Been Released on Friday and Hurt This Coney Island Family

On Friday, two women in Coney Island and two children were sent to the hospital after a carjacking. (Story here)

Kahlil Ivey had been arrested on Thursday for committing grand larceny and possession of stolen property. (Source)

Yesterday, the Gounardes family celebrated Father’s Day and the senator shared pictures on social media.

The family involved with the carjacking were at two different hospitals (the children were at Coney Island Hospital and the mother was at Lutheran….and yes, it’s called Lutheran in the news although it has been renamed NYU Langone Hospital).

We agree that bail reform was necessary so that people didn’t get stuck in the system due to poverty.

But something needs to be done because the system is allowing these criminals to become repeat offenders in Brooklyn. Arrests are not being taken seriously now.

When politicians change the law and they see things are going berserk, why haven’t corrected the loopholes in the bill that allow criminals to be repeat offenders?

Commission Shea has repeatedly called for politicians to make a change to the bail law because there are too many criminals abusing the system.

Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus and Senator Andrew Gounardes have ignored Commissioner Shea and refuse to work with law enforcement on correcting this issue.

This young family didn’t deserve to be the collateral damage of a loophole law.

New Arcade in Sunset Park

Yesterday, Brooklyn Games and Arcade opened at 6120 – 4th Avenue in Sunset Park.

While slightly outside of Bay Ridge, I bet many parents will take their children down to play some old skool type games! 2 hours for $5.00 – Open until 5:00 pm, but I saw somewhere where it will be open later (until 10:00 pm).

Congratulations to the new owner – we wish you a lot of success in this fun place!

Happy Fathers Day, Bay Ridge!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads in Bay Ridge.

To all the people who lost their fathers this year and this is a hard day, know that the grief never fully goes away if you had a really great Dad.

At the end of my father’s life, he wasn’t able to speak, but he could respond. I sat for many hours talking to him in the hospital. At the time, I thought being at the hospital and not seeing any changes was torturous. It’s something I am very grateful for now.

Sector D of the 68th Precinct Took This Car Off the Street

The 68th Precinct took this car off the street.

This problem has been left for many years so one car off the street isn’t going to make a difference.

They probably have to take about 10 cars off the street to send the message that Bay Ridge isn’t a racetrack.

Malliotakis Calls for Transparency and Accountability with Where’s Out Money Act?

This sounds like a solid bill that Congresswoman Malliotakis introduced (her description), but it’s not available online yet to read it. (See here)

Politics and political parties aside, whoever is in leadership in 2021 should be able to and WANT to show how our money is being spent.

Malliotakis is making me like her. Maybe she grows on people after awhile.

In our community in Bay Ridge, Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus is transparent about the spending, even if you or I don’t agree with how she spent it, Frontus has been transparent.

Senator Andrew Gounardes has not been transparent. Last Fall, my husband asked about spending and was given a strange list without specifics. Gounardes’ staffer took several weeks to reply to my husband. Tori said to contact her with any questions, but did not reply to my husband.

Councilman Justin Brannan doesn’t want to be transparent on some things. NYC government records let us know that Brannan set aside a million dollars for an office upgrade. (See here) The building doesn’t seem to need a million dollar upgrade, but Brannan has not spoken about our tax money being used there. The building is not owned by the government, so that money is not being invested in the community long-term, as it would be on a community center.
