Redistricting Brooklyn Meeting 7/29

When it was voting season, politicians didn’t stop calling, mailing stupid flyers, ringing our bell or e-mailing us!

Now that they are planning to redistrict Brooklyn without us.

Not one politician has invited us to the Redistricting Brooklyn Planning Session. Did you get an invitation or flyer about it?

Even weirder, NYC is having these meetings in the middle of the Summer while people are away.

Gothamist says redistricting equals POWER. See here

To speak at the redistricting meeting or give testimony, go here and choose which one you want in the blue box.

What will I be writing to them?

I was thinking something like this:

Dear NY Redistricting Commission: My local politicians didn’t tell us about this meeting. I bet they are going to give testimony, so I hope you will disregard their testimony and continue to leave Bay Ridge, Brooklyn 11209 with the current section of Brooklyn and Staten Island. We aren’t able to get help from local representatives and getting rid of the Republicans in Staten Island isn’t going to make things any better. Please just even out the districts with boxes around each community (rather than half blocks or pick and choose constituents on blocks due to their political party). One of our state representatives is accepting money from the other areas, as well as PAC money (see attached).

To submit a redistricting map, go here to upload a map.

NYS expects to have the redistricting done by January 2021.

Some Democrats want the area to be rezoned with Sunset Park, the UWS and Soho, which makes no sense at all. If you are a Republican, your district leaders should have contacted you and asked you to participate.

Senator Andrew Gounardes has been taking donations from Park Slope and a lot of PAC money, so you want to speak out against this as both Democrat and Republicans are needed in this district.

Gounardes is accepting money from a PAC that supports bail reform:

Of course that’s not the only PAC money!

There is a session at 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Bay Ridge Center and there is rock painting from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at Bay Ridge CONNECTS.

Please call ahead to reserve your spot!

One day, I saw a large Mickey rock on 3rd Avenue. I looked up and saw a little boy coming, so I stood in a doorway watch him. He was so excited – just pure joy when he found that rock!

Exhibit B Bookstore opened at 508 76th Street in Bay Ridge.

Exhbit B sells new and used true crime books, videos (DVD and VHS tapes), as well as ephemera (calendars, posters and other genre items) in good shape.

The shop is open by appointment. If you would like to stop by contact: [email protected] or CALL: READ-141-034

This used to be a small barber shop.

They had a lot to do a lot of work because the shop was in harsh shape. Now everything is fresh!

In the future, Exhibit B plans to do author visits and themed installations.

The shop also purchases used true crime books and related materials. It’s particularly interested in bestsellers, rarities, major-case stuff (JFK, Jeffrey MacDonald), compendia books. See more info about selling your items here.

If you need help tracking down a first edition book or are stuck for a gift, the shop can help. [email protected]

Congratulations to Sarah, the owner of this new bookstore in our area. A lot of people in Brooklyn are going to love this unique specialty shop!

Bay Ridge’s Racetrack is Open in 2021

It’s Summer and the racetrack is wide open in Bay Ridge.

Did you hear those cars roaring through the neighborhood last night?

No one is talking about it now because they are afraid they might know the person speeding!

We have laws that even a local elected doesn’t follows, so why would visitors to the area follow them?

312 – 97th Street Has Five Units Marked as Affordable Housing in the NYC Lottery

312 – 97th Street used to be where Pipins Pub was located. There are five “affordable units” in this development, which people between this income can apply to rent the units:  $73,715 – $167,570.

They have two one bedroom apartments for $2,150 and three two bedroom apartments for $2650.

The income range has to do with your family size – see chart below

You can apply for this building here. There is a blue button at the bottom of the page to apply online and you can also apply by mail.

One thing that is nice is everything is new! But the term affordable housing makes people think that this is low income housing. It’s not – it new housing for the middle class. Good Luck!
