Chris Hoban Run in Bay Ridge on Sunday

The 33rd Annual Chris Hoban Run will take place on September 19, 2021.

Chris Hoban came from the parrish I grew up in, OLPH. My mother knew his mother and she cried when she heard he was killed. I was a child when Chris Hoban died and I remember my mother saying that the death penalty should exist for anyone who kills a police officer. My mother is a religious person and never spoke like that.

Although Hoban died thirty-three years ago, he is still honored today because he was a heroic police officer who was killed by a drug dealer. The Hoban Run is always on the most beautiful day of the year – the weather is always perfect.

You can still sign up to run or get raffles here. Raffles are $5 each – prizes:

If you won’t be able to join us, there are still ways to help, see link below for our Raffle Tickets which are $5 each.

1st Prize $1000

2nd Prize $500

3rd Prize $250

Winner need not be present.

The Brooklyn Dance Centers is opening a third location at 8717 – 3rd Avenue. 718-333-5767. Website

Congratulations to the owner! We are cheering for you! It takes a lot of work to open a business, to expand a business and opening a new business during a pandemic is not an easy thing to do! Congratulations on your success and hard work!

I know a lot of children who have taken classes at The Brooklyn Dance Center on 4th Avenue and they LOVED it. They are so proud to be members of this dance center.

Brooklyn Dance Center teaches: Hip Hop – Jazz – Ballet – Lyrical Tap – Acro – Technique. You can find out more here.

Another update: We were sad to see that Beyond Dance left their location. We see Beyond Dance has a new address – 8009 – 3rd Avenue (where Painted Pot used to be!)

God bless this business and all of the dancers who dance there! It’s going to be a fantastic new place in our community!

CB10 Transportation Committee Refused the One-Way Traffic Change Proposed for the End of Our District

Community Board 10’s Transportation Committee met to discuss the one-way plan that is proposed for Sunset Park and the end of of our district at 65th Street in Bay Ridge. See video here

Josephine said that the impacted about ten blocks that belong to CB 10, but this can also impact Dyker Heights. They are concerned that 65th Street and 7th Avenue will be a deadhead because CB 10 worked on trying to make that block safer.

Diane Gounardes asked, “Can’t we get the City Council involved in this?” That’s a good question, why hasn’t NYC Council been involved in this plan. It’s a major change.

Menchaca’s office is closed due to the pandemic. Menchaca supports these changes, so the people won’t receive help from him. Menchaca is term-limited and will be out of office soon, so that is a problem.

Councilman Brannan didn’t show up for that meeting the other night! He should have, even though most of his district isn’t involved, he should have been concerned about the adjacent district. Throughout his years, this is one of Brannan’s failures (when Industry City was trying to expand, the people were against it and Brannan was no where to be found). *The Asian Community in Brooklyn deserved NYC Council’s support! I am glad that CB 10 is strongly supporting the people in Sunset Park.

This change will impact 65th Street and therefore it will impact Bay Ridge. How traffic from Sunset Park converges into Bay Ridge affects people.

Community Board 10 is against the existing plan for several reasons – safety was the main concern. Community Board 10 thought the plan was not well-supported and the DOT was not working with the community.

Josephine said they received 10,000 petitions against the proposal. Josephine did a mailing from 5th to 10th Avenue of the area – from 5th to 10th Avenue.

They felt that pedestrian safety concerns were not the concern for the DOT and that the voice of the people who live and work there wasn’t being heard.

Assemblyman Mike Tannousis’ Staff Worked at Owls Head – Thank You!

City Cleanup Corps is going around NYC neighborhoods painting over graffiti and cleaning up really bad areas.

They were in Bay Ridge this week. It’s super nice to see Assemblyman Tannousis’ office to participate in clean-up at Owls Head Park. It says a lot when people show up for the real work in the neighborhood.

The Councilman doesn’t seem to mind the graffiti, garbage or weeds in our rea. He took photos of himself standing with the team, but he didn’t work with the team. The team doesn’t seem amused with Brannans banter. (See here)
