Why Wasn’t This Street Renaming in Bay Ridge Shared in the News or On Social Media This Week, Like Other Street Renaming Ceremonies?

Usually a street renaming is a big deal. There is a news announcement and the councilman who applied for the street naming invites people to it the week before. (It normally looks like this or this)

Around 10:20 am today, Councilman Brannan mentioned this street renaming ceremony at 11:30 am – how strange. (See here)

The renaming of 89th Street and Ridge Blvd was for Arthur Schack, who died in 2016. Arthur Schack had a life where he was devoted to our community. He was a teacher, active with the boy scouts, involved with Community Board 10 and the Ragamuffin Parade. Above all this, Arthur Schack became a judge after being a teacher and showed compassion/fought for NY’ers who were forclosed on or faced evictions. The Huffington Post did good job at explaining Schack’s contribution to NYC. (See here) Someone should do a biography about him because he has an interesting life story and helped New Yorkers.

Arthur’s wife, Dilia is a Democratic District Leader in Assembly District 46. Dilia did not supported Peter Abbate over Justin Brannan for being the City Council Representative (See here) That explains why there was no article, announcement or flyer.

Nicholas shared a picture of the new sign here.

Gounardes Plays Politics For An Article About Rikers Island

State Senator Andrew Gounardes did not visit Rikers Island. A NY Assembly woman did and she has been sharing the story of what she saw.

Gounardes has nothing to do with Rikers Island. He did not visit Rikers Island with the Assemblywoman.

Thousands of of corrections officers have contracted the coronavirus since April 2020, Senator Andrew Gounades didn’t speak up, even when newspapers revealed that jail guards were dying last yhear –See here and here

Yesterday, September 17th, Gournardes tweeted about Rikers for the first time and wrote an opt-ed about Rikers Island, even though he didn’tg present anything new from the Assemblywoman who visited the jail. (See here) Press release politics – this is why nothing gets done in NYC.

If a politicians does something, they should write and share about. If they are just writing to pretend they did something, they should get to work and stop trying to take credit for otheer people’s work.

When a Guy Comes Down Your Driveway with a Hood On In Dyker Heights and It Isn’t Halloween Night

This guy walked down a driveway in Dyker Heights with his cigarette. He’s not your ordinary handle surfing thief. Neighbors shared the video See there video

He has a very distinct logo on the back of his jacket. He also seems to have no fear of being caught.

After trying the car doors, he pulled up a hood over his head and tried to get into a house.

Dyker Heights is represented by Councilman Justin Brannan, Senator Andrew Gounardes and Assemblywoman Frontus. They have been called on by Dyker residents, but nothing has changed.

Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights elect someone who will treat this problem as if it was their own and their family lived here.

Not one politician has spoken about it or done anything. Dyker residents have been asking for help with this since before the pandemic.
