Townhouse 275 – A Speakeasy in Bay Ridge

We didn’t ventured into Townhouse 275 until now. Our favorite place closed and we were looking for somewhere to have a drink, talk and hang out.

We wandered into the 94th Street cocktail lounge (It’s off third – behind Oishi Japanese Restaurant). It’s out of the way location may be what makes it a speakeasy. There is a small bar, interesting tables, old-style drapes and decor to give it a speakeasy vibe.

We’ve been to a few hidden speakeasy’s in Manhattan and Chicago (way before Covid) and usually there’s a hidden door and very old style decor that make the place a speakeasy.

TH275 is a small place with a bartender who creates really great drinks.

We returned to TH275 the following week with friends. They were equally as impressed with the drinks. The bartender was a lot busier, so he wasn’t able to chat, but we talked with some other people from the neighborhood – some we new before – most we didn’t.

Some people were a little annoyed that the drinks too awhile to be served (they don’t use the premixed drinks here). We weren’t because good drinks take time!

If you are looking for a relaxed place in Bay Ridge to grab a good drink, try Townhouse 275.

Elect Someone Who Walks The Neighborhood and Would Be Bothered By Graffiti

When Bay Ridge looks like this, it means leaders don’t care.

Let’s elect someone who walks this area and cares.

Our neighborhood should not look like this.

There is a lot of graffiti around – the area is tagged up pretty bad.

New Store at 5th Avenue and 89th Street

This building is on the corner of 89th Street and 5th Avenue. It’s on a lot that next to Lucille Roberts gym. It’s also across the street from the car dealership. (See map)

The top floors of the building are office space. The first floor was covered with paper. This week, the paper was removed from the window and when you look in, there are a lot of freezers and shelving for a store:

There were a lot of people getting a Covid tests on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge today.

The line went down 86th Street – I haven’t seen a line that long in awhile.

Craft Fairs That Aren’t Happening in Brooklyn – But Businesses Are Paying for Tables

Craft Sale Scam? Paid for Table and there is no sale

In August, a woman shared the flyer below which shared that there would be a craft fair in Owls Head Park this weekend. People signed up to sell their handmade goods, but there was no craft fair at the park.

Queen of the Click ~ Taking Over the World from Brooklyn, NY - Part 10

A search of the email address shows that the same flyer is being shared in many states. See here

Now the same account has shared an upcoming date for another craft fair in our area. A search for the e-mail address on the flyer shows these fairs are being advertised in other states as well. See here.

There is actually a craftswoman named Carlyn Lyndsay in the United Kingdom, so this may be a play on her name (it’s one letter short per name)

If you lost your $75 table fee – go here and see how you can get it back. Then please report this to the FTC – the information is at the bottom of the page

Also please report this to the 68th Precinct at 333 – 65th Street. 718-439-4211 While they may not be anything to do about this, they may release the information on their social media accounts and they have a good reach in our community – so other craft sellers don’t get caught up in this.

If you are in a local Facebook group with this account, please alert the owner of the group so other people don’t get caught in this.

Finally, maybe making a list of local reputable fairs will help keep scammers at bay. Here’s the places that I know have real sales – please add in the comments if you know any others.

1) Bay Ridge Open Streets – 9/24 – see here

2) Saint Dominics Flea Market – September 25th – see here

3) 3rd Avenue Festival in Bay Ridge – October 3rd

The Chris Hoban Run always takes place on the most beautiful day of the year.

This is one of the best events in our community. While it happens for a sad reason, it’s nice to see people remember Christopher Hoban.

The weather is always perfect and everyone is excited at Xaverian High School.

Congresswoman was in Bay Ridge yesteday for the Plato School/Greek Festival and today for the Hoban Run.

Catch 22 – Be a Better Neighbor

At the CB 10 Meeting last week, they talked about renewing Catch 22’s SLA Liquor License. Catch 22 is located at 7221 – 3rd Avenue.

People living near Catch 22 Bar showed up to the meeting and complained about the noise. The bar had 50 complaints to 311 between January 2019 – present. Thee has also been complaints about fighting.

Residents complained that they can’t sleep because the booming music is too loud. The bar’s patrons are loud outside of their home while they are sleeping.

Residents have taken the time to sit down with the owner and discuss this problem. ** These are really nice people to do that. Sadly, they felt like the owner doesn’t care.

In general, most of the businesses on 3rd Avenue that play loud music have taken a lot of measures to soundproof their place so they don’t bother anyone.

The police at the 68th Precinct have stopped there in the early hours, but there is no change in the sound. It’s time for them to ticket Catch 22 because Catch 22 is being a bad neighbor!
