October 6, 2021Opioid Memorial Walk in Bay Ridge 10/16

An Opiod Memorial and Awareness Walk for Hope is happening on October 16, 2021 in Bay Ridge on Saturday, October 16th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Meet at John Paul Jones Park on Shore Road and 4th Avenue.
People who say marijuana isn’t addicting don’t know what happens to drugs in our area. Many drug dealers lace marijuana with pcp and other addicting drugs. That’s why they call it a gateway drug – not because they are being dramatic and don’t want you to have a good time.
Many people who have lost a family member or friend to a drug overdose, blame themselves.
Don’t blame yourself or feel embarrassed. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and being put into drugs around our area. Your person didn’t stand a chance. Drug dealers are using laced drugs to make pills and capsules.
If you have a child or family member who is having a problem with drugs, move out of NYC. Yes, move – save them – there’s little chance here because so many drugs are around and the war on drugs is pretty weak. I’ve had friends uproot their whole lives and move because their child is everything.
Once someone gets hooked, the drugs take hold of them. I’ve seen people go into drug treatment centers repeatedly, but their addiction returns. Families have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on treatment centers. Yet, they return to doing drugs. Some of the unlucky people get zapped by the laced drugs, like my childhood friend. He died on someone’s sofa. We all knew what the autopsy was going to say before it was started.
While walks are nice, more needs to be done so that criminals aren’t able to sell drugs or are afraid of the consequences.

October 5, 2021Politicians Respond to Bay Ridge Shooting With a Letter Three Days Later

On Friday night, there was a shooting in Bay Ridge on 78th and 3rd Avenue.
Not one politician mentioned that this shooting happened until today. Ignoring it and pretending nothing happened is the usual here.
Instead of SOMEONE TAKING ACTION and doing something about the problem, politicians wrote a letter and shared the letter on social media three days after guns discharged nine bullets on 5th Avenue.
Four politicians signed the letter. Not one went to speak to Chill Hookah Lounge about what needs to be done for safety. They could have brought an officer from the 68th Precinct and worked on the problem with the owner. Businesses and local governments need to work together! A letter on social media doesn’t help anyone.
In August 2018, No Quarter Tavern was in business two blocks away – on 5th Avenue and 80th Street (where Papa John’s is now). Gang members were meeting at No Quarter Tavern. Of course the owner of No Quarter Tavern didn’t want that and she hired security. She also tried changing the bar so that gang members were not attracted to it. But she needed more help. They were forced to close. (See here)
Chill has been in our community for seven years. They don’t want these people at their bar having a shootout either. Chill has hired their own security. A scathing letter to the Commissioner about a liquor license doesn’t stop the violence.

Senator Gounardes office is within two blocks of this business, why didn’t he walk over and speak with them?
In a few day, the weekend will arrive. The same people and their guns will be in our community. They don’t care about the politicians’ letter. If Chill is open, they may go there. If it isn’t open, then the people will move to another location on our avenue.
