Darn Donuts Closed in Bay Ridge

Darn Donuts at 8723 4th Avenue closed. It’s sad to see businesses closing – especially after surviving the pandemic.

They are selling all their furnishings now.

There was a Columbus Day Parade Today

Go Here https://queenoftheclick.com/18th-avenue-feast-brooklyn-august-2015/

I didn’t know there was a Columbus Day Parade on 18th Avenue today.

Ted shared beautiful photos here

Malliotakis, Colton, Savino and Brannan marched in the parade.

Councilman Brannan didn’t mention the Columbus Day Parade on any of his social media. Brannan also did not share any photos of the event on social media. (Seen here) Why?

Senator Gounardes didn’t mention the parade on his social media, even though he represents the area. Gounardes is using his social media to insult the NYPD Commissioner (See here) Gounardes could have easily pick up a phone and spoke to Commissioner Shea, but he wants “likes” from the bike enthusiasts on social media.

Assemblyman Bill Colton was the only one who shared a flyer:

Congresswoman Malliotakis shared pictures of the parade (here).

There’s more information available online about a new speed light camera than there is a parade.

Good News: there is a Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan on Monday. Angelo Venuto and Lisa Messina are singing in the parade.

Everything is vegan and gluten free.

The popup will appear on GrubHub and UberEats by the end of the month.

They also sell Pure Grit BBQ sauce for vegetables. One of the owners, Kerry Fitzmaurice said, “I created Pure Grit because I feel strongly that, like me, there are others out there who want to participate in BBQ. but they just haven’t had a seat at the table.”

Congratulations to the popup shop owners. We are glad to see you in Bay Ridge taking on this new venture!

Loud Bang on Saturday Afternoon in Bay Ridge

Between 1 and 2 pm on Saturday, people hear a loud bang and then sirens. This sound has been heard by people in Bay Ridge in the 70’s and 80’s from 4th Avenue to Fort Hamilton Parkway.

People believed it was coming from King Fook funeral parlor at 6920 Fort Hamilton Parkway, but the funeral parlor has confirmed it is not them. (See here)

The mystery of the sound has been going on for years.

68th Pct. NCO’s on Bail Reform and The 87th Street & 5th Avenue Shooting

On Thursday, September 30th, we went to the NYPD’s Sector A Meeting online.

While the officers at the meeting were friendly and upbeat, they weren’t weren’t able to answer some questions.

Residents asked how the shooting incident on 87th Street and 5th Avenue was recorded. (September 14th Shooting Info here) See the video:

The NCOs looks and couldn’t find it on Compstats. They told residents that they would find out and respond by e-mail, but then didn’t.

During the meeting the NCO’s for our area introduced the Brooklyn South officers who respond to 911 calls. Those officers encouraged everyone to use 911 and that there are plenty of 911 operators to take calls (because many people won’t call 911 because years ago they asked us to call the precinct with non-emergency calls).

One resident asked what we can do to help the police. (Great question!) One officer responded that several people in our area have been arrested several times a months due to bail reform.

This confirms that bail reform is hurting our area, but state politicians like, Senator Andrew Gounardes, who voted in favor of bail reform were not present to hear this.

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis was the only politician who had a representative, who was present at the meeting.

Her staffer was alert, interested and supportive of the police. Some of our representatives have sent staffers to Zoom meetings, but they don’t put their cameras on during the meeting.

The NCO’s spoke about robberies being up – especially on properties that were having work done. People are stealing metal to sell it. The NYPD can engrave construction equipment for free.

The 68th Precinct issued the warning below for seniors. It’s very sad, but necessary. Please vote wisely.

People Love The Humidor in Bay Ridge

People love The Humidor in Bay Ridge. George’s picture above shows it’s not just the cigars, it’s the people too.

A few years ago, I went into The Humidor to purchase cigars for some people who like cigars. I don’t know anything about cigars, so I asked the manager for help. He was very helpful and picked out several different cigars.

The cigar lovers LOVED the cigars and they all asked me where I got them.

Whenever I walk by The Humidor on 3rd Avenue, there is always a group of people inside and some outside too. Everyone always seems happy to be there!

The Humidor is at 9212 – 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.
