Brooklyn Army Terminal Vaccination Center

This is a very easy site to get vaccinated at because of the free parking.
It’s open 24 hours 212-228-1000.
The vaccination site is not in the Army Terminal buildings – it’s outside at trailers. When you park in the lot, walk out and walk up the street. The entrance is on 58th Street and 1st Avenue – the address is 140 58th Street. You will see fencing with signs on it. The vaccination site is inside the fencing.
A temporary site was built on site with the entrance on 58th Street.
If you check Google maps, it’s next to the Ford of Bay Ridge Service closer to 1st Avenue.

November 13, 2021Fire on 84th Street in Bay Ridge

Around 9:30 pm on Saturday night, there was a fire in a kitchen on the 6th floor apartment at 465 – 84th Street (between 4th and 5th Avenues) (Video)

The tenant was not home so no people were hurt – thank God.
Sadly, neighbors shared that several cats have died. What awful news for the owners to come home to….. : (

November 13, 2021Pet Adoptions Outside of My Natural Pet

Today New York Animal Care and Control had a truck in Bay Ridge outside of My Natural Pet on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.
People were online in the rain to get animals in the mid-afternoon (Hours after the event began).

Many pets were gone from the truck.

Maybe a smaller no-kill adoption centers should be available in communities like outs (rather than one large kill shelter in each borough)

NYC has a contract with ACC for the next 32 years.
Justin Brannan should have sounded the alarm about this contract, but he was #silent. There were no press releases and Brannan did not stand up for dogs and cats in NYC.

November 13, 2021Malson’s Jewelry Store is Moving Down The Block

When we saw Malson’s signs saying they were moving, we thought it was because the store was robbed several times over the past few months. (See here)
But Malson’s Jewelry Store isn’t leaving 86th Street – thank goodness!

They are moving down the street (towards 4th Avenue) next to Bank of America.
Malson’s Jewelry will be in the T-mobile store at 442 – 86th Street.

November 13, 2021Nathan’s Was Knocked Over – The Poor Neighbors of The New School

New York School Construction Authority posted this photo.
We can really see how close this school will be to the apartment – the poor people who live theree!
The area around this school looks blighted because not one politician will tell the NYC School Construction Authority that they are required to maintain the exterior fence.

The fence has been covered with graffiti for months and Senator Gounardes hasn’t had the anti-graffiti team, that he claimed to have around election time take care of it.
Doesn’t Brannan and Gounardes and their staff members pass this place and see what a mess it is? Or do they live somewhere else?

One of the strangest things about this new school is that Community Board 10 did not ask for a transportation safety report BEFORE this school is built.
It’s a terribly dangerous intersection and no one seemed to be concerned about safety because they don’t have children or just don’t care.
The community was not allowed to have input on this building at the Community Board 10 Meeting. It was a done deal that went down.
In other communities, the community board works a bit differently. I’ve attended other community boards and non-board members are allowed input when there is a discussion of development.
Of course everyone knows the huge price tag on this building (See here) and that another “school property” was purchased from the same owner on 5th Avenue. The Community Board 10 Meeting for the second school was strange. (See here)

November 13, 2021Why Dyker Heights Doesn’t Like Their Current Elected Leaders….

This graffiti was reported and shared on social media by Dyker Heights residents in September and it still remains on the street today.
No one should wonder why Dyker Heights didn’t vote for Justin Brannan.
Children see it every day when they walk home from school.

Residents have asked for help with the drug issue in their area and they are ignored.
Would Senator Gounardes and his wife walk with their baby carriage past graffiti like in the photo above? No, of course not. It would have been removed immediately, even though their baby can’t read yet. As you can see from the photo above, that child is able to read!
The Feds had to go to a drug house in Dyker Heights and not one politician spoke to the community. Even after Captain Tolsen spoke about it, the politicians did not. (See here) Andrew Gounardes was present for that meeting and should have spoken to the community after the Captain did.
This is 12th Avenue – 85th and 86th Street.

Even if you didn’t know anything about this area, seeing this person’s name graffitied this way on the building and sidewalk would give you an idea of what was going on.
Politicians seem to look the other way when something becomes a problem in Dyker Heights. Whether it is illegal conversions, high property taxes, buses parking here, robberies or drugs in the area, they can’t get help from any elected representative to SOLVE the problem.
Politicians perk right up to put a school in the middle of a busy intersection because they don’t have kids and are clueless about safety! Developers banked here. (See here)
Imagine living there and then receiving a flyer from a politician that represents the area and nothing is mentioned about the problems in your area because the politician is playing politics as usual?!

November 13, 2021Zoned High Schools Eliminated in NYC

According to the DOE’s new 2022 NYC Public Schools Admissions Guide: “Beginning with admissions for students entering high school in September 2022, no high school applicant will have priority to attend a school based on where they live.” (NY Post Article)
This may open opportunities for students, but it also takes away the safety net FOR EVERY STUDENT of attending their zoned high school.
The newspaper is delivering this information to the community. Why didn’t any elected official have a meeting with parents and discuss this? Oh yeah, they were playing politics over the elections!
While this is being done to increase equity, what about students who don’t fill out the form or who only put a limited amount of schools and get locked out by this process? Maybe they will make sure everyone is placed before giving out the results, so no one feels locked out.

November 13, 2021NYC Gives Free Sand to All Boroughs But Brooklyn

If you need sand because your house was flooded, the city is giving out free bags (you can take 20).
Strangely, there are no Brooklyn locations even though Dyker Heights residents were hit hard by Ida.
Sorry Dyker Heights – no sand for you!
