October 16, 2021Two People Were Raped in Bay Ridge in the Afternoon Last Week
10/20 Update: We went to the 68th Precinct Meeting tonight. The Captain was asked privately about the rapes (to the host and moderators because they were taking questions and reading them to Captain Tolson). They didn’t read that question. Then the question was typed in the chat publicly to Everyone in the Zoom room and it was also not answered. The Captain did speak about crime, but not these statistics.
Councilman Brannan does not show up for the meetings with the 68th Precinct. He would be the person who would be able to ask Captain Tolson to answer the question.
We put the question out to the Chief of Patrol and the Chief of the Dept., but we haven’t heard back. If we do, we will update here! (11/1: The Chief of Patrol and Chief of the Dept didn’t respond either)

Two people were raped within the 68th district precinct last week and no one mentioned it.

Both rapes have Rape 1 as the category: “First degree rape involves forcible compulsion and may occur with the use or threatened use of a deadly weapon, kidnapping, infliction of serious bodily injury to the alleged victim, or burglary.“

Compstat shows that one rape happened on Tuesday, October 5th at 4:00 pm near 3rd Avenue and Marine Avenue.

The other rape happened on Friday, October 8th at 1:00 pm around 4th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue.

To see this information yourself, go to Compstats here, choose Brooklyn South and 68th Precinct from the top. Next to the word rape, click on the number 2 to see the location map/time. A map will be shown in the center of the screen, click on each blue dot to see information about the crime.
Last year, no one talked about rape in our community either even though there were 14 rapes within the 68th Precinct.
This year, Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan couldn’t be bothered either.
It’s not happening to their family, so it doesn’t affect them.
No newspaper or local journalist thought that two rapes was newsworthy either. Why? Because it doesn’t affect them and most journalists reporting about this area don’t live here (some don’t even live in this borough).
God, please take care of these people who were harmed.

October 16, 2021Bishop Kearney Way in Brooklyn

Bishop Kearney friends gathered to celebrate the naming of 61st Street and Bay Parkway and shared this sweet picture.

I am not sure why 61st was chosen over 60th Street because mostly just the faculty used the back entrance/parking lot.
Sing along if you know it:

October 16, 2021St. Ephrem Students Bring Donuts to NYPD

Two students from St. Ephrem sold donuts all around the neighborhood. Then they bought donuts for the 62nd Precinct Police.

This is not only kind, but also the way families are showing their children that the NYPD is important to the community and that we appreciate them.
Two generous students at @st_ephrem in Dyker Heights have organized a Krispy Kreme donut sale with all the proceeds going towards funding a Thanksgiving giveaway to help feed the community and members of the @NYPD62Pct.
