After a Man Died From an Accident on 86th Street, People Called for Scooter Safety. Justin Brannan Pointed Instead of Taking Action

Not one politician from this area mentioned the man who died or expressed any sympathy for him. (Info)

This didn’t surprise me because politicians didn’t express sympathy over Xingchun Rong, an Asian mother who was killed by an e-bike on 19th Avenue. (See here) Frontus was recovering from surgery, but the male politicians were silent.

Councilman Justin Brannan voted in favor of the e-scooters in NYC in June 2020.

Brannan and other politicians didn’t put forth any safety measures to use this equipment. The strange part is the politicians didn’t even take the time to work wit the NYPD on how this could be done safely. Many of the people who voted with Brannan are no longer in office.

Politicians don’t understand that many Brooklynites would misuse the technology. How many people have to die in our community before politicians pass safety measures?

People regularly share pictures on social media of delivery drivers riding the on the sidewalk.

This week, people called on Brannan to regulate the bikes. Instead of taking action, Brannan pushed it off onto the state:

If you voted for Justin Brannan……is this the response that you thought he would give someone after voting for e-scooters and seeing Brooklynites getting hurt and even dying.

Hijab Vending Machine at the Staten Island Mall

This pretty pink vending machine in the Staten Island Mall sells hijabs.

That’s so cool.

On the top of the machine, it says: “We have you covered.”

All the hijabs are in bags and you choose the style/color on the touch screen.

On the back of the machine

Vending machines make a lot of money and have low overhead. Selling hijabs is a vending machine is very unique, but we will probably see them in more places in the future. This company is named Hijab Plug.

I think this would appeal to a lot of teens and young Muslim women, especially if Hijab Plug change the designs of the hijabs every month or two.

District 64 Democrat District Leader Candidates Sue Each Other…. Ralph Gets Flowers

Mark Hanna and Ralph Perfetto are running for the Democrat District Leaders in the 64th District in Bay Ridge. If you are a Democrat and your Assembly representative is Michael Tannousis, you may be able to vote for one of these candidates.

Mark explained that both candidates submitted their signatures. Hanna has three times the amount of signatures needed. Ralph sued him over the signatures (political parties do this to knock candidates off June primary).

Image

Mark saw Ralph’s signatures and is questioning if they are from people in the 64th District, so he sued Perfetto as well…..and sent flowers with the paperwork. (See text below – Ralph thanked Mark for the flowers).

At first I thought Mark being snarky, but after reading the text, it seemed like Hanna didn’t enjoy suing another politician.

I like that he shared the cost in the tweet below:

Hanna is running with the female Democrat District Leader candidate, Joanne Seminara. She’s been silent about all of the current politicians choices and continues to endorse them.

Small White Dog Reunited in Bay Ridge

The dog was reunited with his family!

Jovi and her dog, Diego, found this white dog on 73rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. Contact Jovi here.

Another Ridgite offered to hold the dog and everyone was very protective of the dog……it was nice to see neighbors look out for a dog that they didn’t know just because they love dogs.

Many great people in Bay Ridge offered to help – everyone was concerned about holding the dog and not bringing it to Animal Control because they don’t want the dog to find his owner.

Grateful for Jovi and all the other dog lovers in Bay Ridge.

The Bill Andrew Gounardes Didn’t Tell Us He Wrote for His Friends

If you know someone who is an attorney, they may volunteer to work for free. People who were admitted to the NYS Bar after 2015 are required to do 50 hours of pro bono work.

Andrew Gounardes likes to tell us he wrote a lot of bills, but who is looking into what these bills are about? Every time I look, I find bills that are not for our community.

On January 26th, he wrote this bill for some individual while our community can not get Andrew to help us. (See bill here)

Apparently some person who is doing volunteer legal work thinks that they deserve a tax break if they work on harassment or discrimination cases. That capitalist should not be volunteering.

I am so tired of our senate seat being misused by politicians who think they can write bills for their friends or Political PACs or gerrymander for themselves.

We need someone who is interested in our community and representing us.

Unrig Us From Corruption & Lobbyists NY #11

Sometimes social media has adults making silly hashtags and pointing the finger at people as if they are teenagers. Sometimes politicians join in so no on notices what they are doing.

How does Councilman Brannan write something like that when three months ago we read about this situation in our community.

No one has updated Bay Ridge on how this is going to be handled because lobbyists can’t be making decisions for the community. Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso should have spoken to our community because that’s a serious issue.

The people with the new group say they are talking about NY #11’s voting, but most of them don’t live in the area and don’t have the background information needed to have that discussion.

Years ago, Max Rose would have mocked that type of politicking. He didn’t speak out against the group.

YES PLEASE UNRIG Bay Ridge from Lobbyists control.

Corlears Hook Park in NYC Was Destroyed – No Earth Day Celebrations This Year

The cherry trees at Corlears Hook Park in Manhattan, which were in full bloom (above) were turned into dust (below). WHY?

Last year, this “resiliency project” happened as Councilman Justin Brannan was the Chair of NYC Council’s Resiliency and Waterfronts committee.

Manhattan residents contacted Justin Brannan when they requested the report on this project and were given pages that looked like this.

Councilman Brannan didn’t respond to the park activists, so they went to his office to speak to him. See how the activists were treated at Brannan’s office, even though all had masks (See video).

This would be like NYC destroying Shore Road Park – Click here to see what this park looked like before destruction

Activists asked Brannan for a hearing and Brannan said he would put in for it. NYC Speaker, Corey Johnson said Brannan did not apply for the hearing. See video:

The activists tried to save the mature trees for NYC and despite doing everything they could, they weren’t able to because of the red tape of politicians, including ours.

Ironically, Scott Stringer, NYC’s Comptroller at the time, did not sign off on this project, but this didn’t make any politicians do anything to stop this project.

From Here

Brannan did not seek answers for the activists and that has stayed with me. We should have seen Councilman Brannan leading on this because he was the Chair for the Committee for this project!

Why is Justin Brannan in office if he isn’t interested in helping people, who wanted to save a park? (Read more about this project here)

Of course, the park is in a low-income area, so no one felt they needed to answer to these people.

The activists eventually got a judge to hear them and he put a stay on the city’s plans. The city ignored the judge and destroyed the park anyway.

Anyone holding a cleanup or doing some superficial Earth Day event today or this weekend AND KNOWS WHAT WENT ON AT THIS PARK is doing the wrong thing.

Earth Day isn’t a one-day event – we need to choose people who care about the environment because the things they do (and don’t do) hurt NYC.

Robert Carroll Was Silent About Gerrymandering and Then Endorsed Max Rose

Robert Carroll used to be someone people could rely on to be a decent politician.

Yet, Carroll was silent about the severe gerrymandering to make a district that Max Rose could win. Robert Carroll is the cousin to Kevin Peter Carroll who fought for fair districts in Bay Ridge.

Fair districts didn’t mean for Democrats to do the same thing as the Republicans and choose their voters if they matched their party.

In our area, we have been fighting gerrymandering for years when the Republicans went up and down streets picking district lines. Now the Democrats did the same thing.

The Democrats said that the Asian voters would be grouped with those in Chinatown in Manhattan. That’s just ridiculous!

But specifically they plucked the Republicans have been plucked out of the district.
