Summer Rising – What You Need for the First Day
In the second week of May, they send the acceptances to the Summer Rising Program. (Info about the program)
Once you are accepted into the Summer Rising Program, you know your location.
Time: The Summer Rising Program is Monday to Friday and starts at 8:00 am.
For six weeks, From Monday to Thursday, students have the academic program from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The afternoon is for the enrichment program 12:00 – 6:00 pm Monday- Thursday.
On Fridays, the children have the enrichment program all day.
The last week of the program, the students have a full day enrichment program from Monday-Friday. The school will send a calendar home.
Breakfast and lunch are free, but your child can bring lunch if he or she wants other food.
Supplies to bring: a backpack, a notebook, a folder and some pens and pencils.

Fort Hamilton Army Base Fireworks Today 7/1
If you didn’t get a ticket to go on the Army Base and see the fireworks, you can still see them!
Go down to the water near the Verrazano Bridge and you can see them there around 9:30 pm (last year it started around 9:40 or 9:45 pm.

Armed Robbery at Keyfood in Bay Ridge Today

Around 5:30 pm, there was an armed robbery at Keyfood on 3rd Avenue and Bay Parkway.
In the Citizen video (seen here), the 68th Precinct appears to be arresting a man.

Dead Rats in Bay Ridge – Dog Owners Beware!
Dead rats are better than live rats running on the street, right?
The rise in rats has to do with dirty streets. We’ve seen rats on 3rd Avenue running around near some of the restaurants where there is outside eating. The city isn’t able to clean because of the outside units.

Why Are Politicians Printing Postcards When People Are In Need of Basics?
I could understand if a politician was sending out events or important numbers in a community.
It’s weird that Brannan would send out a picture card when there are families in need.
The budget was done too fast and schools are sharing that they are losing their art teachers – that’s terrible. We were surprised Brannan didn’t update the budget to help those schools since he was interested in art programs awhile back.

Tannousis: “Don’t Disarm Law Abiding Citizens”
Bay Ridge and Staten Island Assemblyman, Mike Tannousis said that violent criminals are not being held responsible for their actions.
Tannousis wants to make sure that law-abiding citizens’ rights aren’t infringed upon. Tannousis said he never saw an individual who had legally possessed a gun.

RIP Ruzhu Xie. Fatal Scooter Crash On Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street Yesterday
Yesterday around 2:30 pm, Ruzhu Xie, a 57-year-old woman died on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street in Borough Park.
She was riding her scooter and hit the door of a car. “She was ejected from the scooter and thrown onto the roadway and under the semi-truck, which ran over her, according to police.” (Explained here) How awful!

The Daily News reported that the cyclist was traveling against traffic.

RIP. Prayers for this woman’s family.

Steven Riso, MD – Bay Ridge Doctor – Left NYU and Is Now…..
Everyone hates getting the dreaded letter from a medical office saying that their favorite doctor has left the practice. Sometimes people lose several doctors in a short amount of time because they move around often.
So where is Dr. Steven Riso? Dr. Riso is with NYP – Methodist. He’s also still in Bay Ridge with his own practice at 9000 Shore Rd. 718-748-8484.

Update: Bulldog’s Owner Found
Update: JD’s owner has been found. A good guy kept JD safe. JD is 21-years-old and blind. Most dogs don’t live to that age, so we know JD is glad to be home!
Black dog found near Shore Road today. Please share and contact finder Paul (347) 258-8075 if you have any info!
Kind person took the dog to the vet to be scanned.

Gold Necklace Robbery at 12:30 in the Afternoon in Dyker Heights
On Wednesday afternoon, a car pulled up near one of our neighbors who was walking a dog on 10th Avenue between 78th and 79th Street in Dyker Heights. The female passenger asked for directions.
After a kind Brooklynite gave the woman directions, the woman in the car said she didn’t hear them and got out of the car. She walked over and stole the gold necklace from the kind person who gave her directions.
The female thief was heavyset and had a gold tooth. The driver was a young man.
