Bay Ridge Mosque – Looking Good

Normally, I don’t care for blue on a building, but this looks great – so fresh looking.
The Islamic Society of Bay Ridge is near the Alpine Movie Theater on 5th Avenue and 67th / 68th Street.
They did over their website too – it’a lot more modern and welcoming – see here. Nice videos too!

October 11, 2022Mathylde Frontus Was At Dyker Heights Civic Association Debate, Jerry Kassar

Tonight, the Dyker Heights Civic Association had their debate. (See video here)
Jerry Kassar said a lot of Democrats didn’t show for the debate:

YES, a lot of them don’t deserve to be elected. But Jerry Kassar incorrectly named Frontus with them.

From the video – see here
Mathylde was there with a big smile – see here. She has always does well in debates! Frontus even joked about the missing Democrats!
Frontus said she is excited about the work she has begun. She said she is stewart of state resources. Frontus said that she is a community advocate and she has fought side-by-side with people in this community.
Mathylde Frontus explained why she voted for cashless bail – she told Kalif Browder’s story. If you read his story, you will cry. (See here) Frontus said that she believes in judges having discretion and that the bail law needs to be tweaked.
Dr. Frontus did not defund the police – that was members of NYC Council. She said she has always supported law enforcement and is against anyone abusing power. Frontus said crime is up and anyone can see that. Mathylde said she funded programs to stop the violence.
Dr. Frontus will not do anything about the discrepancy in property taxes. Frontus’ think-tank meeting isn’t useful for many because the people leading the groups don’t want to talk about home owners who are paying too much tax….it’s more socialist focused.
Andrew Gounardes, Iwen Chu and Max Rose were no-shows because they don’t believe they are answerable to the community.
By the way, John Alexander did a good job as a moderator and stayed on top of the candidates, so they stayed within the debate rules.
Debating myself at the Dyker Heights Civic Association in #Brooklyn…I guess after his lies were exposed on CBS, Max decided not to show up! You can watch on my Facebook page: https://t.co/Ec8vyQhXe6 pic.twitter.com/h0bh939aH3

Update: Dr. Frontus calls out Jerry Kassar. Kassar does not fix the tweet.
Mathylde is clear and straightforward:

October 11, 2022Community Board 10 and NYC Parks Discussed the Future of Dyker Beach Golf Course

Tonight, Alexander Han from the NYC Parks Department spoke to Community Board 10 about the Dyker Beach Golf Course. It was a brief meeting – about 40 minutes.
NYC Parks will be putting out a Request for Proposals (RFP) soon because the 20 year lease with the current operator of the golf course in Dyker Heights expires in early 2024. There is not an automatic renewal for this property.
The current operators of the golf course can rebid and tell NYC how hey will run and maintain the property. Other golf course operators can do the same. Those putting in bids compete with their plans – not with a higher price. They receive more points on their bid for completing or including different aspects of the application.
The Parks Department takes into consideration the operator’s experience, the hours used, their pricing, maintenance plans and staffing plans. The Parks Department has a vetting process and looks at the operator’s past record.
Several members of Community Board 10 want the land around the golf course to be better maintained. There has been dumping outside of the golf course and the area outside needs work.
Some CB 10 members were optimistic about a future operator allowing residents use of the park land (don’t do it Brooklyn – people will abuse it).
Han also discussed the big undertaking a golf course is for an operator. He said that the lease is for 20 years because it takes years for the operator to make money.

October 11, 2022Small Business Owners Are Being Robbed on Bay Parkway – Whose Helping Them?

The small business owners in the Bay Parkway Business Association told Michael Henry, candidate for Attorney General, that they are being robbed regularly.
The crime crisis is hurting our mom & pop shops.
— Michael Henry (@michaelhenry4ag) October 11, 2022
Paul Li, President of the Bay Parkway Business Association, & Brooklyn business owners are fed up.
Every single business in this Chinese-American community said they are robbed on a daily basis.
We need to STOP rampant crime. pic.twitter.com/hgBpFKwouc
How come current local politicians aren’t helping them? This area has always been a safe area, it’s sad to see no one is doing anything to help these business owners.
The owner of a small pharmacy on Bay Parkway in Brooklyn said crime has gotten bad because there’s no fear.
— Michael Henry (@michaelhenry4ag) October 11, 2022
He said his shop experiences theft every single day thanks to bail reform.
Other shops said $200-$300 in goods are stolen daily, many times, by the same individuals. pic.twitter.com/AwOsNZc9xY
They need an Asian district if current politicians are ignoring them. They need someone who is going to listen and help.
