Dave’s Hot Chicken is Coming to 86th Street

Dave’s Hot Chicken is opening on 86th Street in Bay Ridge. See menu and place your order for pickup here.

This chicken place is between Panda Express and Wendy’s. It’s six storefronts up from 3rd Avenue.

Update: December 2022 They updated the outside of the building and opened – the place looks great – so vibrant! This is where Pretty Woman clothing store used to be.

People are enjoying the fried chicken and seeing how hot they go. People who love hot foods don’t think the medium or hot chicken is as hot as they expected and are looking forward to trying “the reaper” chicken.

Remembering Christopher Hoban 34 Years Later

Thirty-four years after his death, Police Officer Christopher Hoban is remembered in Bay Ridge. On Sunday, September 18th is the Chris Hoban Run starting outside of Xaverian.

If you have never been to the Chris Hoban run, take a walk down to Shore Road/Xaverian High School around 9:45 am on Sunday morning. It’s a great community event and I never miss it.

The Chris Hoban Run is always on the most beautiful day of the year in Bay Ridge.

Police Officer Christopher Hoban was killed while on the job in 1988. I was a kid when he died, but I clearly remember my Mother being heartbroken for the Hobans.

My Mother was a devout Catholic and as the news told about how Christopher Hoban died, my mother said, “Anyone who kills a police officer should get the death penalty.”

Officer Hoban’s family lived in my parish, OLPH. Police officers lined the streets near the church for blocks. The streets were lined with the blue uniforms – there had to have been a thousand officers there.

AFTER THE CHRIS HOBAN RUN, GET A CAR WASH AND SUPPORT BRAVO (VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE)

Sunday is the last day for the Greek Festival in Bay Ridge.

Radiofree Bay Ridge Defended Automatic Enforcement at Lights, Even Though Pols Have Been Caught Repeatedly By Red Light Cameras

Automated enforcement has made a lot of money for the NYC and the company that owns the cameras – Verra Mobility – aka American Solutions.

In 21 days during August, NY’ers received 211,000 or 70% more tickets. tickets compared to the month before when the cameras were only active five days a week and between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. (Source)

Look how good the company has been doing since 2017:

This company must be cheering for Justin Brannan and Brad Lander (Brannan and Lander were lobbied by the company)

Radio Free Bay Ridge tweeted this:

We know that our streets still have the same problem and things haven’t changed here.

There is not a doubt in my mind that Radiofree Bay Ridge KNOW that pedestrian deaths and car crashes increased in Bay Ridge and in Andrew Gounardes district.

Several of them ride bikes and advocated for bike lanes. Why didn’t they speak out against this?

Why didn’t Radio Free Bay Ridge share the Vision Zero map for 2021?

Automated enforcement lets a lot of repeat offenders own our streets.

While Andrew Gounardes claimed to have a bill to fix the red light camera law, Gounardes is a weak legislature and didn’t do anything to get the bill passed. Andrew played on Twitter and didn’t do the work to fix his bill’s loophole. Who benefitted from this not passing? Gounardes friends – Brad Lander, Justin Brannan, Jumaane Williams. (See story)

Councilman Justin Brannan see here

Comptroller Brad Lander see here

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams see here

*** Lander and Brannan went after Marty Golden for their driving, so the hypocrisy is creepy.

Justin Brannan said he changed his way. The ticketing system online states Brannan had a difference license plate. Years ago, Radiofree Bay Ridge would have checked if the pols followed through with their word.

If the elected officials representing the area think the red light cameras are a joke, other people must feel that way too. “ Rich people don’t really care. If you want to slow people down you change the engineering of the roadway.” (Source)

Radiofree Bay Ridge shared this photo and complained about the sneaky driver who covered the sign. But the reality is criminals know no one is watching. They are probably reading this and laughing their head off.

Andrew Gounardes isn’t walking, running or riding around the neighborhood. Gounardes should have shared that cameras and said how it was being corrected. No one holds Andrew accountable, Radiofree Bay Ridge didn’t even tag him. (See here)

What happened to Radiofree BR? This group used to advocate for safety for the neighborhood.

The Bay Ridge Center Has Been Delivering Food to Seniors for 46 Years

Journalist, Roger Clark reported that the Bay Ridge Center has been delivering meals to seniors for 46 years.

They prepare the dishes in a church basement! I didn’t know that. The story didn’t mention that this is part of the Meals on Wheels program.

The director, Todd Fliedner said that the Bay Ridge Center delivers meals every weekday.

The Center provides seniors with extra food on Friday so they have meals on the weekends.

We are lucky someone had the vision for this program many years ago and that people volunteer to pack food every day.

To volunteer at this program call 718.748.0650 ext. 15

For info about food deliveries, contact Catholic Charities at 718-680-3530 Meals on Wheels service.

See Roger Clark’s story here.

A School Will Be at the Old Capital One Bank on New Utrecht Avenue – Justin Brannan Told People It Was Going to Be Apartments

The Capital One Bank closed at 7120 New Utrecht Avenue. People asked what would be going in that spot.

Two weeks ago, Councilman Justin Brannan told people that this property was going to be apartments with retail on the ground floor.

The Department of Buildings site shows that the building is being converted from Commercial to a School:

That’s strange no one would mention it!

Why wouldn’t Brannan say that a school was going there? He wrote this:

Neighbors of the former bank say that it is going to be an all girls, private/religious school.
