RIP Harjot Singh, 29-Year-Old From NJ Died in a Fatal Crash in Bay Ridge

Harjot Singh was a 29-year-old passenger in the back seat of a car that crashed on the I-278 around 2:30 am this morning in Bay Ridge.(Source)
Ravinder Singh was the 23-year-old driver from Queens, who drove the wrong way on the Gowanas Expressway and crashed into a guard rail near the Fort Hamilton Parkway ramp.
When I heard what happened, I thought that there two men were friends, but seeing that they are related makes this even worse.

Ravinder Singh was ordered held on $10,000 bail during a brief arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court. (Source) The Brooklyn Paper wrote that Ravinder Singh was charged with “Vehicular Manslaughter, DWI, Failure to Obey Traffic Device and DWAI-Alcohol.” (Source)
This is a terrible nightmare for that family and friends of Harjot and Ravinder Singh. Please pray for them.

October 14, 2022Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge Helps 150 Asylum Seekers Each Day

Pastor Carlos Ruiz at Good Shepherd Church leads like Jesus would.
Great story by Channel 12 News about the church and it’s volunteers helping 150 asylum seekers each day. (See here)
If you want to help out (see here) or donate food or clothing, (see here) Good Shepherd’s food pantry was busy each week before this happened.
While many people are against what is happening in immigration, they also recognize that there are families who are being dumped in communities and need help.
“In Staten Island, Verde’s Pizza & Pasta House has been delivering pizza to the hotels in Travis, as well as offering leftovers to those who wander into the store.” (Source)

October 14, 2022Community Board 10 Failed To Share the Lobbyists Behind the CarShare Program Proposed for Our Community

The CB 10 Traffic and Transportation Meeting on 10/12 started with Justin Romero from the DOT presenting about the Getaround CarShare Program coming to our neighborhood.

Here’s the information the DOT shared:

Here’s the streets they are proposing to put the carshare program:

A) 76th Street and 3rd Avenue (near Tanoreen and the Dance Studio – they failed to mention Tanoreen’s outdoor dining program across the street)

B) 74th Street and 6th Avenue – across from a deli mart (here)
C) 64th Street and 11th Avenue – on the side of Scaturro Supermarket (here)

The residents and businesses on these blocks may want to watch the video of the meeting about the Getaround CarShare Program:
Doris from CB 10 asked: Why is this company the only company presenting? (That was very odd.) Adiennne Moretz said that GetAround is participating in the DOT District 10 – other districts have other companies.
Great question Doris! Moretz wouldn’t know this information though. A quick search in the lobbyist database showed Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso was lobbied by GetAround in 2021.

That should be disclosed, as many projects in our area have been pushed by lobbyists! Reynoso was also lobbied on the red light cameras, a bill Andrew Gounardes pushed. (See here)
Whose job is it to tell CB 10 that lobbyists are behind a project?
Doris Cruz remembered when Cars2Go parked cars all over our neighborhood. (In 2015, Cars2Go was one of the first things I wrote about – see here) Do you remember the two men that pushed that program? <Wink>
Daniel from CB 10 asked how many users does the GetAround program have in a community? Adrienne Moretz was unable to answer that question (thousands or tens of thousands)
The DOT said that 10% of users sold their own cars. Daniel asked how long did it take for this turnaround to happen. Moretz finally revealed that the statistics were from San Francisco – they didn’t have any statistics from NYC.
Stephanie from CB 10 asked how many cars would be at each location. Moretz said two vehicles would be at each of the three locations, for a total of six cars for this neighborhood. Justin from DOT added that in the next round, GetAround will request more spaces in our neighborhood.
Stephanie from CB 10 asked Moretz to explain how the drop of congestion was measured for the statistics provided. Stephanie also asked about the location being near Tanoreen (Thank you, Stephanie).
Doris said she wanted a detailed analysis on this car share program. (Go Doris!!) The DOT representative said he would provide it. (This comes up often at CB 10 committee meetings, but CB 10 doesn’t share if an agency provided the information they requested.)
At the first CB 10 meeting this Fall, the new chair of CB 10 said that members of CB 10 will have to research things for their committee.

The Committee Chair of Traffic and Transportation Committee moderated – he had no opposition.
Earlier this year, this chair led the meeting on loading zones. No one mentioned the zones were lobbyist driven. (See here) He also led the meeting for the school at 8802 – 5th Avenue. That property was owned by the same man who owned Nathan’s, but that was not shared by CB 10. (See video of CB 10 Meeting) (Info from The City)

Who is making the decisions for Bay Ridge? This is the lobbyist database for NYC – it’s simple to search – just put in the company name and search.

October 13, 2022Does Andrew Gounardes Think Brooklyn is Stupid?

Senator Andrew Gounardes pushed a bill for red light cameras.
Andrew failed to tell the community that his political friends were lobbied over these cameras. This includes: Justin Brannan, Brad Lander, Anotonio Reynoso, Carlina Rivera and Keith Powers. See here:

It’s strange that information is not revealed by a politician or the press.
Today, Gounardes wrote to Keith Powers on Twitter about noise cameras:

Powers knows which senator pushed the red light bill, so Gounardes tweet is odd. Does he think Brooklyn is stupid?
