11-Year-Old Boy Hit By Car – 19th Ave. & 81 St. Bensonhurst, Brooklyn

An 11-year-old boy was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter on 19th Avenue and 81st Street around 8:00 pm on Wednesday night. (NY 12 News) (Pix 11) (Citizen app)

The boy is in critical condition in the hospital. He has serious head and body injuries.

Say some prayers that this little boy is alright. We haven’t heard any elected leaders in Bensonhurst speak about him. Andrew Gounardes should have.

The press wrote that the car had the right of way (meaning the boy drove out into traffic unexpectedly). The driver stayed at the scene.

The news mentioned the boy wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The law says helmets are recommended for all e-scooter riders, and required for 16 and 17 year olds. (NYC Site with info)

Many people who own scooters don’t know the rules. There needs to be a license for motorized riders.

In 2020, Councilman Brannan voted YES to allow scooters. Since then Brannan has not changed the law after seeing how many problems and accidents have been caused by scooters becoming legal without accountability. (See here)

Some parents are riding on these motorized vehicles with a child. Why didn’t Brannan amend the bill for safety?

Bay Ridge Greek Mom Cooking For Her Family Gets Over 6,400 Likes in 24 Hours

Everyone loves comedian Gus Constantellis’ portrayal of a traditional Greek Mom. The character is based on his Mother, who made him Greek Big Macs with feta cheese when he was growing up, rather than buying fast food from Burger King.

Constantellis’ roots are in Bay Ridge. His parents still live here. While Gus films his mother prepping the family’s dinner, she is unfazed by the camera or that thousands of people will be watching that day!

The above video has 7900 ‘Likes.’

Everyone loves seeing Gus’ Mom in the videos! She’s cute and naturally funny!

Greeks and non-Greeks love Constantellis’ original comedy act.

This video brought in a million views on Tikky Tikky Tok:

Gus Constantellis does standup comedy as Greek Mom and makes the crowds laugh!

While the comedian complains that his Mom wants him to be a doctor or lawyer, it’s obvious there is a deep love and admiration between the two. Maybe they will do a Greek cooking show together one day!

Andrew Gounardes Fooled Bay Ridge Again With Press Release Politics

Andrew Gounardes wrote a letter to the the NYC Department of Transportation in August about putting up signs to tell e-bike riders not to ride on the sidewalk. It’s almost the end of September and no signs were put up in Bay Ridge.

E-bike riders own the sidewalks in Bay Ridge!

Andrew Gounardes told journalist, Jamie DeJesus about his letter from last month and DeJesus thought that was news, so he wrote about it.

Nothing has come from this letter, other than Gounardes getting a headline. Welcome to How Nothing Gets Done in Bay Ridge due to press release politics.

Six Bay Ridge businesses were robbed of $28,000 and Jamie DeJesus didn’t think that was worth reporting.(See story from CBS)

Andrew Gounardes didn’t do anything to help the businesses who were robbed several weeks ago. Gounardes didn’t think he had a responsibility to tell the community what the police had told him about the robberies.

Fortunately, Adam at LoudLabs broke the news with Bay Ridge because Adam lives here.
