October 30, 2022Dyker Heights – Someone Has the Master Key from the Post Office And Is Opening the Mailboxes

Some mail is being taken at a building in Dyker Heights because the guy has the master key.
The police don’t usually get involved with missing mail, but this is one reason we need stronger politicians in this area – so problems can be handled.

October 30, 2022Malliotakis and Tannousis Speak Out Against Andrew Gounardes and Mathylde Frontus’ Vote For Marijuana to Be Sold in Bay Ridge

If you weren’t aware there are 22 smoke shops in Bay Ridge now. Most can’t sell tobacco because they don’t have a license.

Senator Andrew Gounardes and Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus voted for the bill that legalizes the sale of pot.
Neither Gounardes or Frontus did anything to limit the number of stores selling it in a community. The community was surprised when Deputy Inspector Tolson told Bay Ridge there are 22 shops last week.
Tannousis was concerned because marijuana is accessible illegally to the public. He also didn’t like that the location of the store was near places that children visited. Listen here:
Yesterday, I joined @NMalliotakis in Bay Ridge in asking that our state and city government address illegal pot shops. In fact, there is an illegal pot shop that is operating only a few feet away from a local Bay Ridge elementary school. pic.twitter.com/CL46GrvqYe
— Mike Tannousis (@MikeTannousis) October 29, 2022
The 68th Precinct can’t monitor all of these stores. And the Citizen App has shown that there have been a lot robberies at the smoke shops or fights outside the smoke shops.

Some of these smoke shops have already started selling pot.

Nicole Malliotakis and Mike Tannousis spoke outside of St. Anselm about how this bill that Gounardes and Frontus supported is going to hurt our community.
Even if you supported legalizing the sale of pot, no one needs 22 smoke shops! And if you don’t see someone supporting your need to legalize weed, it probably means they lost someone to drugs.

October 30, 2022Low Voter Turnout In Early Voting…Here’s Why

Early voting is a waste of money. Friends of politicians were hired to work at the polls. About 20 people worked at the Fort Hamilton High School location when we tried early voting years ago. We were the only voters there when we voted!
Although extra days for voting are helpful, someone in NYC should have adjusted early voting to be one weekend day and two extra week days, so that money isn’t wasted needlessly.
The low turnout this election isn’t due to hopelessness. People are going to vote on Election Day. Why?
This election is a “Vote Out” election. Some politicians aren’t helping their communities and people will be voting for their competitors.
It’s more exciting to be at the polls on Election day during a Vote Out Election! People in the community ban together and grumble about the existing pols and vote them out together.

October 29, 2022Dyker Heights Was Divided Into Three NYC Council Districts to Minimize That Community’s Power – Brannan Didn’t Stand Up For Brooklyn

NYC Council voted to keep this ridiculous council district. Gerrymandering is alive and well here. The same Democrats who complained about gerrymandering years ago, were silent now.

No one thought that breaking Dyker Heights into three districts was a problem, while they diminish the community’s power in this beautiful neighborhood.
We have a lot of political people who wanted votes for Democrat or Republican District Leaders, yet none of them spoke up or even wrote an article for a local paper to let Dyker Heights know their power would be diminished. These are district leaders in the community: Joe Bove, Tori Burnhas, Chris McCreight, John Quaglione, Lucretia Regina Potter and Tori Burnhas and Dionne Brown-Jordan.

Councilman Justin Brannan has shown he isn’t interested in representing Dyker Heights and voted in favor of this map.
Brannan thought this was a connected district and acceptable for Brooklyn.
When Alexis Aviles, the City Councilwoman in Sunset Park heard about this redistricting plan, she called her community together so they could fight it. She held meetings and shared a lot of information so the community’s power would not be taken. Justin Brannan did not hold any meetings.

Councilman Justin Brannan did not take action for seniors, when their basements flooded last year. At the September 2022, Community Board 10 meeting, many of our neighbors stood up and said Gounardes and Brannan failed to help them while their basements are flooding because the city’s system hasn’t been maintained.
Dyker Heights – here’s the good thing about redistricting. District 47 is currently Ari Kagan’s district. Ari could easily win in SeaGate because Mark Treyger lives there. Ari could win in Coney Island because he is community building with Frontus and others. On the strip going up to Bay Ridge, Ari could win because he has been doing a good job cleaning his community and asking the community to hold him accountable. (He doesn’t have a big head yet.) If Ari Kagan isn’t corrupt, Ari Kagan will be able to make a good case for himself in Bay Ridge as corruption is rampant here.
And housing developments in Kagan’s district are being divided and they are also trying to take power away from them:

October 29, 2022Spooktacular Building 79th Street in Bay Ridge

The corner of 79th Street and 3rd Avenue has some super spooky decorations. These pictures can’t do them justice.
On a breezy afternoon, these ghosts move back and forth in the most eerie way possible. The building owner hung these in a way which allows their movement to be super creepy (in a good Halloween way).

When someone told me that there was something special on 79th Street, I went to see them, but missed them because they were on the second floor. The corner business is The Pour House.

October 29, 2022Law Office Sign Hung on 5th Ave. in Bay Ridge

When the Arab American Association recently took over the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital building at 6803 5th Avenue, I thought they took the two floors of the building since they were coming from such a large place.
I know the building well as I took my pets to that vet years ago. I guess they didn’t need a lot of room.
This week, Joudeh Kuller LLP hung a sign on the second floor of the building.
