Why Do Jada Camille and Leigh Holliday Think Bay Ridge’s News Is the Councilman’s Wife’s Art Workshops?

Jada Camille is a journalist for the Brooklyn Paper. When she covers our community, every story sounds like it was handed to her from Councilman Brannnan.

Jada Camille, are the local paper’s stories supposed to be the politician’s choice?

Or should The Brooklyn Paper have reported about the hate crime that not one politician has shared with our community. (See here) Too bad Camille won’t report our news.

This week Jada Camille wrote about the Councilman’s wife, Leigh Brannan. Leigh Holliday started doing workshops at the bookstore.

There are many small businesses who do AMAZING workshops at that store and other stores in our community, but Jada Camille and other journalists have never reported about them!

Yet, Leigh Holliday Brannan and Jada Camille thought that was headline news for Bay Ridge this week. It’s strange that Leigh Holliday Brannan didn’t think that any other business in Bay Ridge could have used that media boost. How about one of the new shops or stores that is struggling to pay the rent and survive, Leigh?

Councilman Brannan knows that there are many businesses who have never received his support in Bay Ridge – most of them!

It’s too bad that Brannan hasn’t highlighted new Bay Ridge businesses on his social media like this:

Leigh Holliday Brannan has been political in the past. She told us that Justin was the right person for the job. When she saw that her husband’s friend did the “lobbying,” even though he isn’t a registered lobbyist with NYC and he made banked a lot of money, why hasn’t she stood up for Bay Ridge and told us to vote for someone else.

Strangely, when businesses were being robbed for over a month this past Fall, neither Brannan or the Brooklyn Paper told us! Loudlabs (a Youtuber) told the community! Later on, newspapers like The Daily News (See here) and others (See here) had to tell the community because Jada Camille didn’t think it was newsworthy.

It’s strange that he would think promoting his wife’s workshops in the newspaper OVER other businesses is okay.

Jada Camille could have asked Leigh Holliday Brannan about the school at Nathan’s and how a man made money on “choosing that location.” Why didn’t Justin Brannan let us know who was banking money from the placement of our school.

Jada Camille could have interviewed Community Board 10 members, who didn’t like me questioning them about they approved the location of a public school by the father of private school parent.

Why didn’t Jada Camille ask Leigh Holliday Brannan how much do lobbyists, like the red light camera company, Verra Mobility give to politicians?

Years ago, the Bay Ridge Democrats told us that Justin Brannan was against lobbyists. Jada Camille can interview the Bay Ridge Democrats and ask them why they are supporting Leigh’s husband now that he has pushed lobbyists bills in our community.

It’s too bad that Jada Camille didn’t ask Leigh Holliday Brannan about redistricting and how an unfair district for Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights was made for Justin.

We are glad that these crazy district lines brought more candidates to the table to challenge the lobbyist-loving politician!

I have never written about Leigh Holliday Brannan before, but today she and husband thought it was alright to get the “free advertising” from the local paper and Jada Camille didn’t see anything wrong with it, so I wrote because it’s not right.

Everyone in Bay Ridge is tired of the corruption, Jada Camille! When will the Brooklyn Paper write about it?

Covid Tests on 86th St in Bay Ridge Are Not Free

A good neighbor named Des shared that the Covid Testing tent pm 86th Street and 4th Avenue says their Covid tests are free, but then they charged her insurance $450.00 per test.

Here’s the problem: Des got denied from her primary insurance and a partial coverage letter from my secondary. So she will probably have to pay $100 for what was supposed to be “a free test.”

They shouldn’t be able to do this! Des did report them, but she wanted everyone in the neighborhood to know so they don’t get charged. Thanks for the heads up Des!

Was this what these places were charging NYC?

Istanbul Restaurant Robbed of Two Grand

Two weeks ago, Istanbul Restaurant was robbed on 5th Avenue and 80th Street was robbed. (Story here).

Again, not one politician mentioned it or spoke out for the restaurant. Why can’t they let people know, so the community can at least help by going there?

It’s like we don’t have any representatives in Bay Ridge who care that businesses are being robbed.

In the Fall, businesses were being robbed for weeks and then a Youtuber (Loudlabs) told people about the multiple robberies. (Info)

We have a lot of Twitter representatives. They sit around and tweet pictures and stories, but who is working for Bay Ridge?

What Happens in Other Communities When a Hate Crime Happens…..

Last month a hate crime happened in Bay Ridge and Brannan and Gounardes were silent – not one person mentioned the hate cirme. (Info here)

Politicians are supposed to let the community know what is happening.

This is what that looks like in other communities:

Let’s Make a Graphic About Nothing….Or Just How Bay Ridge Was Gerrymandered in 2022

Whoever made the above graphic should be fired. Why? Because Bay Ridge was severely gerrymandered.

The snakes long neck going down into Dyker Heights says there are snakes in NYC government.

For years, Brannan cried that Marty Golden gerrymandered the area. When Brannan had the chance to make a fair district, he didn’t draw a box. Brannan had the towers because there are more Democrats living there.

Look at the streets excluded and how power was taken away from our community!

The power doesn’t belong to a politician in charge of a chunk of Brooklyn – it belongs to residents living in the community.

Vote out snakes who think gerrymandering your community is okay.

FYI, everything I learned about gerrymandering came from Brannan, Gounardes and McCreight before any were elected.

NYC Council Voted for a Street to Be Named After Elijah Muhammad

NYC Council voted to change the name of 129 street names this year. That’s pretty excessive. (News)

There should be a limit of five people per borough each year. We don’t need to rename every street in NYC.

I watched the video of NYC Council voting (See here – around 35 minutes).

The Councilmembers didn’t take the time or care needed for 129 names. Some council members spoke about their honorees before the voting began, but many Council members waited until it was their turn to vote to mention their honorees.

Honoring well-known NYC heroes, like Police Officer Wilbert Mora, who died protecting NY’ers is important.

Councilmember Kristin Richardson Jordan, who represents Harlem submitted Elijah Muhammad’s name. During the meeting, Jordan said: “It is actually not OK to erase black leaders who are not pleasing to white people.”

Elijah Muhammad was a leader of the Nation of Islam. Newspapers and Jewish publications have shared some inappropriate things Muhammad has said about Jewish people.

While the people should be diverse and don’t need to be pleasing to all people, they should be people who helped build NYC and didn’t spread hate.

NYC Council members wanted to get their streets named after their honorees, so they allowed Elijah Muhammad’s name. That’s the problem with doing 129 names at once.

Why don’t the people in Harlem get to vote if they want this name on their street?

Maybe Mayor Adams will veto his name?

If not, in a decade or so, a smart and loving child will grow up and get rid of Jordan and NYC Council’s mistake. Children wouldn’t allow someone who has promoted hate to receive recognition.
