May 15, 2023Why Andrew Gounardes Will Not Help Bay Ridge With High Property Taxes…

This session, we saw Senator Andrew Gounardes forget that he represents Bay Ridge AGAIN!
Gounardes flip-flop on “Good Cause Eviction” (he supported the socialist views – see here).
Now Gounardes is pushing a bill he wrote in 2021 that didn’t have any movement for two years. (See here) The bill is about legacy acceptances at colleges.
Even if Gounardes’ bill passed, there is no way for the state government to check that every private college has complied with the law. Alumni will always be able to contact admission offices and admission offices can always add “other requirements” to their current admissions.
When Gounardes was elected to office, he promised Bay Ridge that he was going to fix the property taxes in our area. At the end of his first year, he told me, he was going to get it done the second year. Gounardes is not a man with integrity.

Two firefighters were injured while putting out this fire.

This house is completely burnt out. I wonder what the cause of the fire was.

May 14, 2023Community Board 10 Meeting on Monday 5/15

There is a Community Board 10 Meeting on Monday, May 15th at the Fort Hamilton Senior Center at 9941 Fort Hamilton Parkway.
Don’t worry about getting there at 7:00 pm, they spend the first 20-25 minutes asking politicians to share information with the community.
The politician’s staffer shows up and is usually say unimportant things like: (Name of Politician) wanted to say Hi (or Happy whatever holiday is upcoming.) I am not joking – there is very little information shared and the staffers should be embarrassed for wasting people’s time!
Do you think Senator Andrew Gounardes’ staffer is going to say that Andrew Gounardes pushed Congestion Pricing, but that Uber and Lyft are exempt from the $23 fee that residents will pay for driving into Manhattan?!
Will Justin Brannan’s staffer explain why Brannan voted for this on Thursday or why he has not adjusted the NYC budget so that schools are not defunded AGAIN? (See here)
You can view this meeting online here.

May 14, 2023Brannan is Silent – $295 Million Cut to Education

The Working Families Party shared the above graphic that 295 Million will be cut from NYC schools and almost $42 million will be cut from NYC Libraries.
Why hasn’t Councilman Justin Brannan, the Head of NYC Council’s Finances made changes in the budget so schools aren’t cut again?
Last year, NYC Council cut schools and didn’t follow the procedures for the budget. (See here) Justin Brannan did not tell us that, but a court proceeding did.
The current NYC budget for nonprofits is ridiculous and we should have seen Brannan take action for schools!

May 13, 2023Palestinian Nakba 75 Was Smaller in Bay Ridge This Year – Larger Protest in Manhattan

Today was the Palestinian Nakba Day. There was hardly any mention about the gathering in Bay Ridge this year, so their turnout was a lot smaller.
They were still able to make some noise and have a good size turnout – see Danny Arensberg’s photos below (scroll to the right to see more).
