David Portnoy Reviews The Brooklyn Firefly
David Portnoy of Barstool Pizza Reviews stopped by the Brooklyn Firefly at 7003 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge and reviewed their pizza.
Portnoy said their pizza was GOOD and also complimented the setup of the restaurant.
David Portnoy said that a Bay Ridge resident walked by and told Portnoy to give The Firefly a good score because the owner is from the neighborhood. Bay Ridge loves Michael “Kaves” McLeer and his family!

Suleiman Othman Plea Bargained
On December 26, 2021, Blake Zavadsky was on 86th Street in Bay Ridge. Suleiman Othman, from Staten Island, did not like Zavadsky’s sweatshirt with the IDF emblem and told him to take it off. (Story here)
Othman pleaded guilty to attempted third-degree assault as a hate crime in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Monday.
In January 2022, not one Bay Ridge politician spoke out against this. Some even blamed the victim. But a hate crime is a hate crime. Inna Vernikov and Ari Kagan rallied against the hate. (See here)
Othman will receive a 60-day jail term and three years’ probation.

Free Portrait in Coney Island on Saturday 6/3
On Saturday, June 3rd, Ming Liang Lu, an artist who who creates 3-D paper portraits will be at the Coney Island History Project center. The Coney Island History Project exhibition center is located on West 12th Street at the entrance to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, just a few steps off the Boardwalk.
From 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday, visitors are invited to have their portrait cut free of charge on a first come, first served basis. (More info here)

Lombardo Ophthalmology in Bay Ridge Closed
At the end of June, both of the Lombardo eye doctors at Lombardo Ophthalmology are retiring after being in business in Bay Ridge for 52 years!
Many Rigites have been going to these doctors since they were in grammar school!
The office called all of the patients to let them know.
We don’t know if Dr. Chao is staying, but everyone hopes so.
Dr. Stella Douros will take over. She is a board member of the Hellenic Medical Society. (Info)
Dr. Joven is moving to be close to family. We wish both of these well-loved eye doctors a happy retirement!

Bay Ridge – Whose Allowing the After Hours And Weekend Construction Work?
I received a lot of questions about construction work happening after hours.
NYC is giving permission to developers to work outside of hours. (See here) We need better representatives in our area!
Some residents in our area were not able to sleep in because construction is being allowed on buildings in our area through an afterhours permit. (Seen here)
Memorial Day Weekend should have been peaceful for all.

O’Sullivan’s Last Day in Business in Bay Ridge
O’Sullivan’s Pub on 3rd Avenue and 89th is closing for good today.
They had cut back on hours, so we knew it was only a matter of time. :(
O’Sullivans has been open in Bay Ridge for 89 years. Denis O’Sullivan (grandfather to Frank O’Sullivan) opened the bar in 1934, after immigrating to America from Ireland. He passed it to his son. And later it was passed to Frank and his brother-in-law, Richie O’Donnell.
This was a great place, where many good stories and laughs were shared for so many people in this neighborhood.

All the best to the O’Sullivan family! We always had a good time at O’Sullivan’s.

Ria’s Hallmark Store at 1965 86th Street is closing. The store has been open since 1976.
They are having 80% off sales.

The Bay Ridge Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 11:00 am.
The parade starts on 3rd Avenue and 78th Street in Bay Ridge.
Parade Route:
BEFORE THE PARADE, YOU CAN SEE THE POW MIA FLAG PRESENTATION ON SHORE ROAD AND 81ST STREET AT 10:00 AM.
AFTER THE PARADE
There are several places which have barbecues. They will be listed here when places publish them for this year.
