Carjacking in Dyker Heights

First, we are glad our neighbors, the two men who were carjacked, are alright!!

Right before 10:30 pm, a thief with a gun got into the back of a black Camry with Pennsylvania plates on 10th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue. (Source)

The Camry had two men in it. He demanded the driver drive. The driver drove and then he and his friend fought the thief. They fought outside of the car and then the thief fired his gun. Then he took off with the car. (Info from here)

Helicopters are flying over Dyker Heights now.

The police have the gun so this man will be caught soon.

Adam from Loudlabs wrote that one man had a bandage on his hand as he was speaking to the police.

Update Monday 4/24:

Assemblyman Chang shared this:

Councilman Brannan wrote this:

Senator Chu did not write anything on social media. Why isn’t she sharing information with the community? Two rapes happened in this area and she didn’t tell the community then either.

Anna Belfiore-Delfaus Responded to Daily News

WOW! The Daily News has a NYC Council candidate for Bay Ridge on the cover on their paper. How odd THAT is the BIG news for the day! That must mean someone did some polling and found Anna Belfiore-Delfaus to be a threat in the NYC Council race.

The Daily News even questioned if she was a teacher because she is on leave to raise her children. (Of course she is still a teacher!)

Belfiore-Delfaus quickly responded to the paper:

Anna Belfiore-Delfaus has a lot of support in Bay Ridge. She was recently honored by the Lions Club as her community work in supporting the NYPD.

Anna received support online calling for The Daily News to apologize and parents recognizing her advocacy for families during the pandemic:

Maimonides Emergency Hospital Will Open in Bay Ridge on May 9th

Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department will open on 92nd Street and 7th Avenue in Bay Ridge on May 9th.

Dr. Ahmed Rashed is the Medical Director for this fully equipped emergency department.

Dr. Rashed spoke at the Community Board 10 Meeting on April 17th. He lives in Bay Ridge with his family and was excited to share information about the new emergency room.

The Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Hospital will be open 24 hours a day.

People can be treated for anything that they would need help with at a hospital emergency room including strokes, heart conditions and orthopedic injuries.

Interestingly, there is a 24 hour stand-by ambulance, which can transfer a person to another hospital. The ambulance can take people to any hospital they choose, not just Maimonides Hospital.

SUNY Downstate is still in the building – upstairs from Maimonides. SUNY Downstate is a same day surgery center.

Ebike Fire in Sunset Park Displaces Residents

Early this morning there was a fire caused by an ebike at 5322 – 7th Avenue. (See video here) Assemblyman Lester Chang shared these photos of the building.

NYC should have taken action on these ebike batteries already!

Sadly, the families living above the store have been displaced.

I am glad to see Assemblyman Chang going to the location, inspecting it and speaking to the people. That’s a sign that he cares!

First Candidate to Speak Out Against Shore Hill Expansion in Bay Ridge

The developers for 9000 Shore Road spoke to the community last Spring. They said they would return with changes in the Fall. In the Fall, the developers came back and showed how out-of-touch they are with the community.

Avery Pereira is the first candidate for NYC Council who has spoken out against the development and stands with the residents. At a time when our neighborhood is being overtaken by developers and lobbyists projects, this is important.
