Car Hot-Wired – 68th Pct Captured 1 Suspect

This car was hot-wired and then crashed on Ridge Blvd and 72nd Street. The police caught one of the suspect, while other ran away.

School on 13th Avenue & 64th Street Is Wrapped
I saw what looked like a huge garbage bag around Diafthora School on 13th Avenue and 64th Street.
The school received the nickname Diafthora, which means corruption in Greek. (Info)
I wondered what the construction company was doing that they needed to cover the building. Then I noticed the wind blowing and the hole in the cover in the back of the building (seen below)
Online I saw that residents in the area had called SCA (School Construction Authority) to complain about dust on the interior and exterior of their homes. SCA responded by putting this cover over the building.
The residents believe this is Monokote, which is used for fireproofing.(Info here) See this NYT article about Monokote
Wasn’t this product discontinued??
While Councilman Brannan boasts about this school, he hasn’t spoken to the neighbors of the school. No one has provided the neighbors with information about what has produced the white dust that is on their home.
Alexa Aviles, the City Council Representative for that block should have visited the neighbors of this building by now. While her office isn’t in the area, Senator Iwen Chu’s office is. Iwen likes to take photos, but has not provided the people with information.
Brooklyn, we need better leaders.

District 47’s Money Was Cut in the Budget. Why Didn’t Finance Chairman, Justin Brannan Speak Out?
If Justin Brannan wanted to lead in District 47, why wouldn’t he speak out (or vote against the budget) if the people in District 47 are going to be shorted?

RIP Phil Fahey
On June 30th, there was announcement on Phil Fahey’s page that he died.
I don’t know how he died. The picture below Phil shared in June.
I didn’t find an announcement for Phil’s wake or mass yet. I will put it here when I see it.
I met Phil many years before I moved to Bay Ridge. I think everyone in the neighborhood knows and loved Phil. He had a lot of friends because of his friendly personality. Phil wanted everyone around him to be happy.
Phil was also a proud father and grandfather. Any time I ran into him, he scrolled through the pictures on his phone to show me his family.
Phil love Bay Ridge. I used to see him walking around the neighborhood a lot. but I haven’t seen him in a long time. Phil didn’t have it easy and he was working on making his life better.
RIP Phil. Prayers for his children and grandchildren.

Senator Gounardes’ Office Moved to Carroll St.
After Senator Gounardes allowed over 20 illegal pot shops in Bay Ridge, he is moving his office to a rich area in Gowanas.
The new office is at 497 Carroll Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues. Suite 31. The area is more expensive than 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.
This new location is strange because it was supposed to be for artists’ studios as it’s light industrial space. (Info here) It’s definately not where a politician would be accessible to the community.
There’s parking – each space cost $450 a month. Andrew Gounardes doesn’t say that he is a driver, but he is.
This area is off the beaten path, as if someone didn’t want to be bothered by people walking in the office. (Take a look)
It’s sad that Gounardes didn’t take a storefront in a poor area of his gerrymandered district, so that marginalized people could receive help.
Also, now there is another empty storefront on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.
