Farewell to The Leif Irish Pub in Bay Ridge

Earlier tonight, I saw two messages about The Leif Bar closing and residents expressing their disappointment.
Mike, the owner of The Leif posted this:

Mike knew how to run a bar and Ridgites were sad to hear The Leif closed.

The owner of the building put the building up for sale last January. See here:
What the picture of the property above doesn’t show is the long, spacious driveway.

This bar was a gathering place for people who loved live music every weekend plus during the week for BINGO and karaoke as well.
Read about the bar’s history here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ct4ohs1Rq8B
Good luck Mike The Leif will be missed by so many Brooklynites.

On January 5th, a man was seen kicking and damaging many parked cars in Bay Ridge. Many residents had thousands of dollars of damage to their vehicles. About 15 vehicles were kicked. More info:
The 68th Precinct went to the homes on that block and collected footage. Then they arrested the man.
Councilmember Kayla Santosuosso failed to share any information or inform residents about what happened. Andrew Gounardes is the state senator for the area, but is too busy playing on social media – X to talk about what happened in our neighborhood.

January 13, 2026Senator Steve Chan Slammed Governor Hochul’s State of the State Address For Being Repetitive, Ineffective and Disconnected

Brooklyn loves Senator Steve Chan. He speaks the truth and he wants politicians to work together to make life better for New Yorkers.
Governor Hochul’s speech did not do enough to deal with rising costs, declining public safety and lack of leadership.
Senator Chan blamed Democratic policies for making New York the most expensive state in the country, citing high housing, energy, grocery, and healthcare costs. He even talked about the safety risks of battery storage facilities near homes and schools.
Senator Chan condemned bail reform and parole policies because they tied the hands of police. He pointed to subway violence. He said: “We have seen countless attacks, elderly people being pushed onto the tracks and even people lit on fire.” This is happening because of bad policies.
Finally, Chan called for transparency and oversight over money.

January 13, 2026Community Board 10 Police and Public Safety Meeting Actually Discussed Public Safety

Community Board 10:: Police & Public Safety Committee was actually good this week because they discussed public safety and not just liquor licenses.
1. They began with a liquor license for Hanna Sushi at 524 86th Street. If you like sushi, Hanna Sushi has very fresh sushi. The restaurant is clean and peaceful. The application was approved with standard stipulations CB 10 always puts:
- No alcohol service until SLA license is issued
- No BYOB
- Owner/manager must be on site
- No outdoor music or smoking
- Doors/windows closed when music is playing
- Noise must comply with NYC Noise Code
- 20% visibility into the establishment
- CB10 must be notified of any operational changes
2. NYPD Presentation on Scams & Fraud, especially those targeting seniors.
Real Example;
- Woman received a fake PayPal email ? called the number in the email
- Scammers convinced her to send money
- Later, scammers posed as NYPD detectives, claiming they needed cash to “catch the criminals”
- A fake “detective” picked up cash from her home
Red Flags for Scams:
- Emails or calls creating fear and urgency
- Requests for:
- Cash
- Gift cards
- Bitcoin
- Gold bars
- Instructions to withdraw money for “investigations”
- Anyone claiming to be NYPD asking for money (this never happens)

3. Manhole Incidents – 72nd Street
- Repeated incidents of people entering a manhole on 72nd Street between 13th and 14th Avenues
- Suspects described themselves as “urban explorers”
- Two arrests made
- Alexa Aviles is the Council representative, so Andrew Gounardes should have spoken to 72nd Street and the community by now.
- DEP inspected the sewer system—no damage found
4.Rumors About Police Uniforms
- Question raised about police uniforms found in Greenwood Cemetery and online rumors of terrorism
- NYPD confirmed:
- No intelligence or credible threats
- No reports involving impersonation using police uniforms
5. Apartment fire at 7040 Colonial Road
- One reported injury
- Firefighters also injured
- No fatalities confirmed at the time of the meeting
You can watch the meeting here:
