November 23, 2023Power Out in Some Areas of Dyker Heights

The Citizen App is showing there was a transformer fire at 12th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue around 8:50 pm. (See here) Some people heard it happen.
Some residents in Dyker Heights saw their lights blink and some families lost power on 12th Avenue in the 70’s still don’t have power!

We feel terrible for the people in Dyker Heights who don’t have power at their homes on Thanksgiving Day.
Con Edison’s website shows that 460 homes are affected and they expect to have the power restored by 11:00 pm. (See info here)

November 23, 2023Paladino Slammed Brannan’s Blame Game Tweet

Councilman Brannan is the NYC Council Finance Chair. It’s a position he isn’t qualified to hold.
If Brannan understood money, he wouldn’t allowed NYC to have a budget that was six billion more than last year. (Source) He would have cut spending to not-for-profit organizations.
Instead, Brannanallocated six million dollars to an organization in Bay Ridge right before the election. (See here)
Here’s what ten million dollars funds in NYC:

Average people in NYC don’t know that NYC is having a financial crisis, but reporters have been talking about it since the Spring.
Comptroller Brad Lander, another NYC leader without a financial background, didn’t sound the alarm about NYC’s financial crisis until November 9th. (See here)
Tonight Councilwoman Vickie Paladino Slammed Brannan because as budget cuts have cut future classes of the NYPD (Source)

From November 15th: “The pending academy freeze comes as an already-struggling NYPD battle to replace the nearly 3,000 uniformed officers who have retired and quit since 2019 (Source) – and as overall crime is yet to drop after surging 30% during Adams’ first year in office.” (Source)

November 22, 2023Brooklyn Botanic Garden Lightscape

Our friends are in Brooklyn visiting for the weekend so we headed to The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Lightscape. It’s absolutely beautiful!
Our friends purchased the tickets with a code they received so the tickets were significantly less!

The cost of tickets is $39 for adults and $19.00 for children 3-12 years old. The regular admission price for the Botanic Gardens is $18 for adults.

It was beautiful, but the cost is too high, especially for families.
I didn’t find any codes for this event online yet.
The Botanic Gardens has some value nights where tickets are a little lower in price:

The Lightscape will be at The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens until January 1st. Not open Thanksgiving Day.

November 21, 2023Apply to Be On Community Board 10

The application to become a Community Board 10 Member is here. CB 10 could use some outspoken people with fresh ideas.
Six months ago, a CB 10 committee said No to the High School on Ovington Avenue – the vote was almost almost unanimous because School Construction Authority did not answer even simple questions. (Info)
Councilman Brannan told a private Facebook group, he proceeded forward with the high school. (Info) It looked like the purchase was made in the Winter when Brannan released a silly Tik Tok video (which has since been deleted)
More than six months after CB 10 said no, not one person has challenged Brannan or seems to care.
When Brannan appeared at a CB 10 meeting, even the head of CB 10 didn’t ask him about it.
