Ari Kagan is a Father – We Need a Parent Representing Bay Ridge in NYC Council

Ari Kagan is District 47’s NYC Council Representative. Due to gerrymandering, Bay Ridge and Coney Island are District 47.

Bay Ridge will be able to vote for Ari Kagan in November’s election!

On social media, Kagan is professional. He writes and updates the community about what is going on and what is being updated. He doesn’t fight with other politicians or write silly things.

Kagan’s children sent the above letter and I thought it was great because Bay Ridge needs a parent for a NYC Council Representative.

A parent will be able to speak up for schools. Kagan was respectful and professional as he and the parents fought against the migrants being placed at a Coney Island School. The Mayor’s office listened and promptly moved the migrants to a new location. (Info)

Ari Kagan also understands that people are afraid because of the changes that have happened to Brooklyn and NYC over the past few years. Every NYPD union has endorsed Kagan.

Justin Brannan has not been working collaboratively with the community for awhile.

Last Spring, Community Board 10 voted against a school location. Over the Summer Brannan told a private Facebook group the school project was still happening. Why did he waste all of those people’s time pretending that their voice mattered? (Info here)

Brannan isn’t a parent and he doesn’t seem to understand that you can’t plot schools all on one area because schools need room for buses.

Brannan thinks no one knows what is going on. We know. (See video)

A lot of lobbyists projects have hurt Bay Ridge! We had secret lobbying with Justin Brannan. If you haven’t read this and this, please do!

Bay Ridge Let’s Vote Out Justin Brannan and the lobbyists. Let’s Elect Ari Kagan to help our community!

“The Corner” Restaurant Opened in Bay Ridge

When I read Thomas Joseph Perrone’s message on Facebook today, I was sooooo happy!

Perrone owns Brooklyn Roots Restaurant in Bay Ridge.

Today, Perrone announced that he and his partners are opening a new restaurant called The Corner. It will be on the corner on 3rd Avenue and 86th Street.

He changed his userpic to a picture on that corner! So cute!

The restaurant will have an eclectic menu that would cater to everyone in the Bay Ridge melting pot. (See Perrone’s message) The restaurant is going to be upscale, but casual.

Update: February 2023: Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, and private Chef Table available daily. Crepes they will be available all day everyday. Bay Ridge we can’t wait to serve you. Classic French dishes along with some international dishes executed with French techniques.

It’s sad to see that Istanbul Park went out and the place is empty because I remember when it alive with people! (Photo from last week here)

Perrone is going to make this corner come alive! Years ago, this was Casa Calamari and Thomas Joseph Perrone shared that he worked there as a waiter!

We are cheering for Thomas Perrone and we can’t wait to visit The Corner when the group is done designing a new place for everyone in Bay Ridge to enjoy!

In February 2024, Chef Perrone shared a plate that will be available at The Corner…..whipped olive oil mashed potatoes chicken jus and peas. It looks good!

Vegan Ratatouille on top of Mofongo:

Crispy Skin Salmon:

Filipino inspired Shrimp:

Argentine Tomahawk served with Provoleta, Chimmy, & Chorizo

Five Cheese Mac and Cheese:

Thin Sliced Ribeye, Horseradish aioli, Caramelized Onions, Truffle Mozzarella, House-made Brioche:

Another dish was shared on 7/2/24: Broiled Oysters

In July, more dishes were shared. The chef put out a message for Rigites to come sample it. They had duck:

Look at how big the burgers are:

Boneless Fried Chicken, Potato Puree, Pickled Red Cabbage, Gravy & Buttermilk Cheddar Biscuit (below)

And a new dessert was shared:

The restaurant looks beautiful! Pics taken inside the restaurant in July – here.

I can picture the place being packed with people!

In July, The Corner started a contest on Instagram. (See here)

Go Thomas Joseph Perrone!! We can’t wait for you to open!

What Did Justin Brannan Do About Illegal Conversions in Dyker Heights? NOTHING

Someone asked this question on Facebook tonight.

Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes took office and ran campaigns telling residents they were going to help them with the illegal conversions that were going on in the area.

What did Brannan do about illegal conversions when he took office? NOTHING.

Over the years, we have seen residents reach out to Justin Brannan and share photos of someone setting up an illegal basement, but we haven’t seen Brannan take any action.

In 2021, Justin Brannan saw eleven people die in their illegal basements during Hurricane Ida. (Source)

The residents don’t have a lobbyist to make Brannan dance.

Has Angel Guardian Home Started to Turn Into a Yeshiva for 600 Students?

In December 2020, Talmud Torah Imrei Emes D’Chasidei Gur purchased the main Angel Guardian Home. Since the building was landmarked, the owners asked the Landmarking Committee to make significant changes to the building.

Since they are a religious organization, the new owners understood how important the stained glass and other religious items in the Angel Guardian Home were. They requested to remove 15 stained glass windows and replace them with a similar shaped window. The Landmarking Committee said this has to be done with care and the items had to be put into storage. (See article)

The new developers wanted to change the entrance bit and some of the fixtures. See this document for the building changes they wanted to make.

They were given permission to remove these items as they are converting the orphanage into a Yeshiva for the Gur Sect. This will be for six hundred students in Pre-K through 8th grade children.

There are already two schools within a one block radius here. This will be a third school!

Saturating some areas with schools and thousands of students in a small is ridiculous! Traffic is going to be horrible around here with school buses and parent’s dropping off children.

Why did politicians and the press fail to tell the community about the changes to the historic building? Iwen Chu is the senator and she doesn’t seem to be aware or care.

Peter Abbate was voted out.

Senator Andrew Gounardes no longer represents this area. When Gounardes represented this area, he and Peter Abbate failed to show up for the landmarking meeting. Instead, Gounardes sent Councilman Brannan to the landmarking meeting because he didn’t care. Councilman Justin Brannan should not have been able to speak for a community he did not represent!

Justin Brannan never revealed that he was lobbied over this property. The the NYC Lobbyist Database showed us this:

Both Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes accepted donations which was written about here.

People Not Receiving Help in Bay Ridge Because Politicians Here Don’t Care. Want Change?

Everyone in our neighborhood knows Bay Ridge is not getting the care it should be.

These men just fell over here because they know no one in NYC is coming to this station (95th Street in Bay Ridge) to help them or say anything to them – they are invisible to Councilman Brannan.

I spoke to Ari Kagan, who is running for NYC Council from Bay Ridge to Coney Island. He has been leaning hard on DHS about Stillwell Avenue because it is also the end of the line for MANY trains and a lot of homeless people need help there. Kagan told me he will work work just as hard for 95th Street.

Collision with School Bus on 73rd Street Today

Around 4:00 pm, there was a collision with a school bus on 73rd Street in Bay Ridge. Moments after it happened I was about to turn down this block to park, but I didn’t.

After I drove around the block, the NYPD pulled up. The police car couldn’t go down the block because there were to many vehicles on the block.

Two female officers got out of the NYPD car and swiftly walked down the block.

We are grateful that everyone on the bus was safe and the police responded rapidly.

Mani & Pedi Studio on 3rd Ave. in Bay Ridge

Mani Pedi Studio opened at  7015 3rd Avenue.

I love so many things about this new business! I like their sign and their plant out front.

Business owners: Plants (and chalkboards) make me look at your place closer. Plants tell us you aren’t just here to make a buck, you are here to build the community as well!

They do classic Russian manicures, gel Russian manicures and Halal manicures. I like that they display all of their prices too! Finally, this nail salon takes appointments through Instagram. (See Insta)

This business replaced a Smoke Shop, so that’s a good thing!

Congratulations to the owner!!
