The Leif Bar at 6725 5th Avenue is having two fantastic music events this weekend. LeifBone 2023 on Friday night has five bands. And Rocktober with the Bennett Brothers and Mike McLaughlin on Sunday afternoon starting at 3:00 pm.

Student Hit By Car on Ft. Hamilton Parkway
A little after 4:00 pm, there was an accident on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 68th Street.
I saw the photo of her lifeless body laying in the middle of the street.
The caption read: “Kid down…68th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway…by Mckinley Library. Both her sneakers had come off.”
Over her was a police officer and another person. Hopefully, she is alright.
There were no updates about this student on any politician’s page.

Justin Brannan Sponsored Local Law 97
In tonight’s debate, a discussion about Local Law 97 came out. In 2019, NYC Council passed Local Law 97. Justin Brannan was a sponsor of Local Law 97. (See the bill)
Starting in January 2024, buildings that are 25,000 feet or larger must reduce emissions or they will be fined.
Local Law 97 is good for large buildings, like hospitals and office buildings, but Progressives didn’t exclude condos and coops.
Eight hundred thousand apartments in NYC are affected by Local Law 97 (Source) (Search by address or zip code here).
In the Spring, we heard residents speak out about Local Law 97 and that no one was helping them!
Councilman Brannan forgets he represents a middle class community when he is with the Progressives in NYC Council. How could he have thought it was acceptable to do this to condo and co-op opwners?
The changes that need to be made are expensive and taxing on individuals and middle class families who purchased a condo or co-op!

Brannan Hasn’t Been Good on Standing Up Against Antisemitism in Bay Ridge
Tonight Justin Brannan said at the debate, “We can’t pick and choose what we condemn…if you call out antisemitism, you have to call out Islamophobia.”
But Councilman Brannan hasn’t been good about calling out Antisemitism when it’s come to Bay Ridge.
1) On December 26, 2021, Suleiman Othman, 28 from Staten Island punched Blake Zavadsky, 21 twice and tossed iced coffee on him because Zavadsky wore an Israel Defense Forces sweatshirt in Bay Ridge.
Both Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes tweeted and then didn’t do anything.
Because Brannan and Gounardes did not take action, both Democrats and Republicans in Brooklyn did! Ari Kagan and Inna Vernikov held a large protest. (See here)
Shahana Hanif, Alexa Aviles and Tiffaney Caban came to Bay Ridge to talk to people about hate. Justin Brannan did not join these Councilmembers!

In May 2023, Suleiman Othman plead guilty to third-degree assault as a hate crime. People were glad to see Othman received a 60-day jail term and three years probation. (Info)
2) When “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” were chanted in Bay Ridge, it took Councilman Brannan seven days to speak out against the hate in a PRIVATE Facebook group. (Info here) Our community isn’t the private FB group.

CPR Class in Bay Ridge – Saturday, October 28th
An American Heart Association CPR & AED Class is being given in Bay Ridge.
This Stress-Free American Heart Association class is designed for people who wish to learn CPR & how to use an AED. This “hands on” learning class covers CPR skills for infants, adults, and children; how to help an infant, child, or adult who is choking; and use of an AED for children and adults.
Date: Saturday, October 28, 2023
Time: 9am till 11am & 5pm till 7pm
Location: Bay Ridge Brooklyn
This class is about 2 hours in length.
Each person is given an American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR & AED manual and a plastic face shield. The members who are taking the certification class will be given an American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR & AED Card which is valid for two years.
Cost: $85.00 per person for certification
$65.00 per person for non-certification

There was an armed robbery in front of Magen David Yeshiva at 2130 McDonald Avenue.
