86th Street in Bay Ridge is a Mess, Yet Justin Brannan’s Flyer Claims He Revitalized It

When I moved here fourteen years ago, I shopped on 86th Street all the time.

Now I hardly go to 86th Street to shop. Not only are many stores closed, but the street is run down.

Empty storefronts have graffiti or are just dirty. Bay Ridge is just not being maintained – not just this street, but the whole as a whole.

Many of the stores are now outlet versions of the original store.

Unlicensed merchants are selling items in front of Century’s. People complained to Councilman Brannan and as usual, he didn’t take action.

Justin Brannan stopped Trader Joe’s from coming to 86th Street at the Nathan’s location. (See article) Justin always leaves that out of the story! Brannan thought putting schools in Bay Ridge business districts was a good idea. This article explained how an unregistered lobbyist made money here.

Brannan put three schools in business districts. (See here, here and here)

In December 2020, Justin Brannan wrote the information below on Facebook. It’s three years later and there has been no change to the area!

Councilman Brannan hasn’t brought in any new stores to 86th Street, so are the developers of the property looking for Brannan to change the zoning for their planned Phase 2 “proposed residential building” on 87th Street near 4th Avenue.

There are no tall buildings on that block! (See here) Notice how Justin Brannan didn’t mention this building.

Community Board 10 will not stand up against Councilman Brannan because many of them were put on CB 10 by him.

If Ari Kagan is the Councilman, they will stand up because they aren’t his friend!

Why Did NYC Council’s Money Increase So Much to These Groups?

Justin Brannan took office in 2018.

Why is NYC Council funding the Yemeni Merchants like that? Why aren’t the merchants paying for their own group?

Brannan’s Story Doesn’t Match What Happened!

In September 2022, eight residents from Dyker Heights told about the horrendous flooding they had in their basements. Move the video to 50:00 to hear what happened to them.

These residents spoke to Councilman Brannan and Senator Gounardes offices and received no help. So CB 10 called them to the meeting to speak.

Here’s the problem: ANOTHER YEAR PASSED AND NO ONE DID ANYTHING. Community Board 10 DIDN’T EVEN GIVE AN UPDATE ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

Residents all over the community are tired of Councilman Brannan not helping and just putting out stories in local papers. Of course the local paper failed to carry the story of the flooding. Now as people talk about voting Brannan out, he has come forward with 51 Million dollars. At a time the Mayor of NYC is saying there is no money, Brannan said he has 51 Million for this project right before the elections?!

Why didn’t Brannan help these people last year?

Above, Brannan wrote that local politicians gave up. It was him, Gounardes and Max Rose. Rose was voted out of office because he didn’t do much for the area. (See here) He and Gounardes gave up.

Senator Gounardes pats himself on the back for writing an article last September. Gounardes ACTUALLY thinks that taking a photo in Dyker Heights is “being out there.”

Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Coney Island – our local government does not work correctly for the community. People should be able to get help when they need it. The reason all these people were at that Community Board meeting were because Gounardes and Brannan did not take any action for them!

Councilman Brannan failed to work with CB 10 and ignored complaints about people’s flooding basements, as if it doesn’t matter to him!

Man on Scooter Hit on 13th Ave & 73rd Street

There was an accident around 1:45 pm today on 13th Avenue and 74th Street. (See Article)

A 19-year-old man riding an e-scooter was hit by someone driving a vehicle.

The man’s body went under parked car and people helped pull him out. (Good people in Dyker Heights – always step in to help!) He was unconscious.

The area was covered with emergency response vehicles.

On Wednesday night, this same corner had an accident between a SUV and motorcycle – thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.
