Community 10’s Zoning Meeting on 11/29 – NYC’s City of Yes Needs Clarification

Over 200 Bay Ridge residents were at St. Anselm tonight to hear about the “City of Yes” and rezoning.
Community Board 10 will have a future meeting about the homeless shelter planned for 6530 – 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Stephanie from Community Board 10 had an excellent presentation for Bay Ridge – watch the video here to see her presentation!
C stands for commercial. Bay Ridge is mostly composed of C1 and C2 districts. Here are there locations:

Overnight commercial parking MAY be allowed in these areas with the new rezoning.

The City of Yes is a plan for modern day zoning. After NYC Planning employees spoke, I thought “The City of Yes” didn’t do a good job in relaying the new zoning to Community Boards. Councilman Brannan should have taken a more active role in clarifying elements of the rezoning. Brannan’s literature should have explained this to the community by now.

For years, our neighborhood has many empty storefronts on every avenue.

Community Board 10 explained why each proposal of the City of Yes was overreaching.

A lot of these zoning changes don’t seem like they will benefit Bay Ridge.

This businesses seemed the least invasive, but if you make allowances for some, then they will push for more…..to get to things they want.

Right before 8:00 pm, politicians and then the public comments started.
Assemblyman Lester Chang knocked it out of the park. Lester’s a very good leader!
Then Alec Brook-Krasny spoke. Someone yelled over him – I couldn’t understand what she was yelling about, but she is mad.
Senator Andrew Gounardes stood in the back and did not speak at the meeting. (Source) Is Gounardes a supporter of the City of Yes? Senator Gounardes never mentioned the rezoning project in any of his mailings.
What wasn’t said tonight is that The City of Yes legalizes many garage and basement apartments that Gounardes spoke out against years ago. (Source)
Councilman Justin Brannan was not present. There was no representative from his office to make a statement.
Vivian got up and spoke. She was excellent! Vivian and Richard Barsamian said what Councilman Brannan should have said.
Chuck Otey showed up, looked great and spoke well.
John Quaglione got up and spoke about property taxes! He was very good too.
Josephine said to send comments and questions to Community Board 10 and they would put them all together.

December 18th is the next Community Board 10 Meeting.

November 29, 2023Justin Brannan Told a Facebook Group Very Little About the Homeless Shelter in Bay Ridge

Last Monday, Josephine from Community Board 10 told Bay Ridge about the homeless shelter coming to Bay Ridge.
Today, a week later, Councilman Brannan said he knew about the shelter two weeks ago. It’s so unimportant to him – he will be leaving office at the end of 2025.
Volunteers of America is operating the shelter for veterans and their families. https://www.voa.org
Brannan wrote a lot, but he didn’t provide a lot of information:

November 27, 2023South Brooklyn Foundry Was on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares

Tonight Gordon Ramsay’s show, Kitchen Nightmares, which was filmed at South Brooklyn Foundry Restaurant in Bay Ridge in June premiered on television.
I was scared to watch it because I love SBF. Gordon Ramsay’s show usually highlights gross restaurant kitchens. Thankfully, SBF’s kitchen was very clean.
Sadly, the chef was the problem at the restaurant. He was stressing everyone out.
I’ve seen him many times at the restaurant. He is a nice guy and the staff at South Brooklyn Foundry are wonderful. On the show he walked out, but I am pretty sure I saw him when we were there last. Maybe it was just a tiff that was going on back in June and it was resolved in the Fall.
Gordon Ramsay called the owner of SBF, Kelly. We have been calling her Agnes for years. She is such a sweet person, who wants people to have a good time at her place. We were Gordon Ramsay didn’t yell at her and the show was very positive.
The restaurant received a nice renovation. South Brooklyn Foundry hosts a lot of events for different groups and their place is very comfortable. This made it more modern.
We wish the owners all the best. They have a great atmosphere (good music and drinks), nice food and we love their place!
South Brooklyn Foundry is on 3rd Avenue and 69th Street. Go have brunch there!

November 26, 2023Information About the Bay Ridge Homeless Shelter Came From the CB 10 Meeting

Late week, I shared what that Josephine from Community Board 10 said a homeless shelter will be at 6530 – 4th Avenue.
Some people thought I made that information up!
I would never write something here unless I had an official document to link to or someone reliable said it. That’s why I always share the links to the information (in this case, the Youtube video of the meeting).
A Bay Ridge resident trimmed the video:

— Queen of the Click???»•»»•» ????? «•««•« (@queenoftheclick) November 26, 2023
Josephine from CB 10 relayed that she was told by the Department of Social Services about the shelter. Josephine said that they will be reaching out at an upcoming committee meeting to find out more about that location.
There were about 40 people at the CB 10 meeting and no one asked any questions about the homeless shelter.
On the Bay Ridge Talk’s Facebook page, a person asked about the shelter and linked to what I wrote. The moderator went off on me for spreading disinformation.

The manager of Community Board 10 would not make up information about a homeless shelter.
The moderator of the FB page said it was for veteran’s housing, which is different than the homeless shelter that Josephine announced.

I didn’t find any info about the shelter online. When I asked him for a link to the information, he didn’t provide one. Most people in Bay Ridge are super helpful when you ask a question.
Just so you know, there is no one to “check with” when you local politician is pushing a bill he was lobbied over. The lobbyist database is available to people look themselves! (City Lobbyist Database) (State Lobbyist Database)
There’s a lot of people who don’t want residents to know the truth. If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you know that.
I’ve been sharing the truth in this community for 14 years. We live here and people have a right to know what was said at a Community Board meeting.

November 26, 2023Rally Against Homeless Shelter Gravesend 12/3

A rally against the homeless shelter being planned for 2501 – 86th Street will take place on December 3, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
Assemblyman Bill Colton wrote: “PLEASE JOIN SUSAN AND ME IN ALERTING THE COMMUNITY TO STOP A PROPOSED HOMELESS SHELTER FOR 150 SINGLE ADULTS AT 25th AVENUE AND 86th STREET.”

2501 – 86th Street is a corner property which sold in March. (Source)

From Traded NY (See Info)
The owners of the properties on 85th Street – behind this building may be upset. (See street view)

In 2022, Assemblyman Colton was successful at stopping a homeless shelter at 2147 Bath Avenue (See here) That location was in walking distance of two schools. CB 11 said that the location of the homeless shelter in that area violated zoning rules.
